Lowe’s recently launched a new mini Kobalt 2-drawer tool box in blue and black. They teased that a range of colors would be available, and recently started shipping the pink and white versions.
The Kobalt tool boxes measure 10.83″ long x 5.91″ tall x 5.91″ deep and feature 2 friction slide drawers. The drawers have a 5lb load capacity.

The tool boxes are sized for a couple of tools, EDC gear, knick-knacks, art supplies, and other smallish items.

The pink and white tool boxes are not carried in store.

There are a couple of more colors that aren’t available yet – red, lime green, and grey.
Price: $19.98
Shipping is $5.99 or free with a $45+ order.

I have no idea what I’m going to use these for but I’m in for 3. 🙂

Guy at work has a similar tiny Snap-On promo chest in his locker that holds drill and driver bits and accessories. Pretty good use for one of the three!

I don’t mean to sound critical, but I’m puzzled why this toy toolbox gets two posts when other, more interesting (at least to me) new releases get no mention on the site.
Two brief examples: new Metabo (not HPT) sanders, including the first and only cordless 6″ random orbital sander, to my knowledge. https://www.acmetools.com/metabo-18v-random-orbital-sander-variable-speed-cordless-bare-tool-600411840/400004007829.html
Or new Metabo HPT grinders, including the first and only cordless variable speed 6″ grinder, to my knowledge. https://www.acmetools.com/metabo-hpt-36v-multivolt-6-angle-grinder-paddle-switch-variable-speed-cordless-bare-tool-g3615dvfq6m/717709029002.html
De gustibus non est disputandum!
Still the best tool site around, thanks Stuart.

I don’t believe I’ve seen that HPT grinder yet. I have an HPT 18V and MultiVolt roundup in the works.
I haven’t seen the Metabo sander either. They stopped sending out PRs, and due to readers demonstrating little interest in the brand, I don’t include it in my “what did I miss?” searches.
The earlier Kobalt mini tool box post received a lot of interest. I took a break from a more in-depth writeup to check Lowe’s site for Q4 Kobalt releases, as Lowe’s and Kobalt completely gave up on tool PR a few years ago. I didn’t see much, but I did see these in pink and white.
High reader interest + quick execution = “hey, these new colors are shipping now” post.
But also, I’m watching the interest level of short format posts to determine if it’s something I should reintroduce.

It has been a long time since Metabo was on my personal radar screen. We used more pneumatic versus electric tools in our metal fabrication business – but many of the favorite eclectic ones were Metabo and Fein. Lately I’ve heard several complaints that Metabo USA has been having supply problems – with sometimes painfully slow fulfillment of orders – especially on consumables. I also read somewhere that KKR was trying to unload its Metabo and Metabo HPT businesses. Both brands still seem to keep introducing some innovative and/or specialty items – like this one that caught my eye some months ago:

Don’t underestimate the value of posts that are just fun or unique! It’s a great escape from normal drugery, and gadgets sites don’t cover things like this. Keep them coming, Stuart!

That sander looks interesting. Unfortunately, the US is not required to provide any useful safety information with product listings so you have to look elsewhere to find noise levels, vibration and orbit stroke.
The vibration levels (most important factor) are listed as 8.9m/s² on Metabo’s website which are alarmingly high. You’re going to have very numb hands very quickly if this is the case.

Thanks Stuart. Ordered a pink for granddaughter.

I bought three of the blue ones at a local store last month after your first post on these. They’re very useful and reasonably priced. I’m thinking about giving some to my adult sons and DILs as holiday presents.

Well I missed the first post, so thanks for the update! These are cool for gifts. Also, I like these short posts mixed in among the more detailed ones. Nice little quick read on a Friday after work.

still waiting for the green to get back in stock… but thanks for the update

I was in my local Sam’s Club and saw the exact tool box (different branding, of course) in several colors. Same price, but included a basic six piece tool set.

Bought one of every color last night in store. I did notice on the side of the pallet these are for Black Friday. The employee was kind enough to sell them to me anyway but I’m guessing this is going to be a limited run as my store had only 15 of each color bundles together on one pallet. Get ‘em while you can!

These short format posts are great! Second one in two weeks that hit my pocket book.
First the Manhattan Portage coin purse (bought 5) and now this tool chest. I was tempted the first time you posted it and this time I bit. A white one is on the way, because grey was out of stock.
Keep these quick posts coming. Love them. 😀

Is the KOBALT on the drawer a sticker? Can it be removed?
Stuart
I don’t know, but it looks like a decal to me.
