Kobalt Powered Kids Jeep and Razor Scooter (Lowe’s Black Friday 2020)

Kobalt Kids Car Kit Black Friday 2020

We’ve been waiting and watching, and it looks like Lowe’s kicked off their Black Friday 2020 Kobalt specials a bit early!

Behold, Kobalt 40V Max-powered “Kid’s Car!” It’s basically a Jeep-like Power Wheels-like vehicle, but powered with a Kobalt battery instead of a bulky 12V lead acid battery that’s a pain to charge and recharge.

Your kids will ride around in style.

The Kobalt Kids Car has 14″ wheels for use in grass, dirt, gravel, or hard surfaces, USB and aux outlets for “little ones to listen to their favorite music while driving,” a working horn and roll bar lights.

AND, there’s a REMOTE CONTROL!

Weight limit looks to be 65 lbs.

Kobalt Kids Car Kit Black Friday 2020 Cockpit

Here’s what the driver’s control panel looks like. I’m guessing that’s the music system control panel on the left.

The speed range is 1.86 to 3.72 mph. The 40V Max 2.0Ah battery recharges “8X faster than the competition” and provides up to 50 minutes of runtime.

The KIT with battery and charger is priced at $299. Freight shipping is available for $55, or you can opt for in-store pickup.

Price: $299

Buy Now via Lowes

My closest store is reporting only (1) in stock, and the next store over has (5).

The Kobalt Kids Car looks to be adapted from existing models you can find at Amazon, but with differences in seat appearance and battery compatibility (obviously). There might be other differences, but I figure these links could potentially be helpful for review or comparison purposes.

Kobalt Kids Car Kit Black Friday 2020 No Battery or Charger

If you already have a Kobalt 40V Max battery and charger, you can get the car itself for $279.

Lowe’s is offering FREE DELIVERY on this SKU, or in-store pickup.

If Lowe’s has already sold out of the kit, you can buy this and the lowest-priced Kobalt outdoor power tool kits, with tool, battery, and charger, for $139 more.

Price: $279 – free delivery

Kobalt Razor Scooter Black Friday 2020

Or, scoot along with ease on this Razor-branded Kobalt 24V Max-powered scooter.

It reaches speeds of up to 11 mph and has up to 60 minutes of runtime. The front tire is pneumatic, and the scooter can handle riders ages 8+ weighing up to 120 lbs.

It’s not clear as to whether a battery and charger are included (but I would assume they are not).

Price: $179

Would love to see Milwaukee come out with something like this.

I suspect they never will, they seem to avoid “gimmik” products – but if you get an adapter you can create your own!

If they did you’d find it here most likely: https://www.milwaukeetoolswag.com/

Hypothetical device with different connections, kind of like the USB power port.

The https://toolguyd.com/milwaukee-m18-top-off-usb-ac-power-adapter-092020/ is close but it’d be nice if it had the little barrel plugs for some other connection types (though you can plug something in its inefficient).

I’m building my own with a buck converter and things you can’t talk about in polite company 😱 for fear of the lawyers.

…I originally came to this post to ask why Stuart says, on Facebook AND Instagram… “My Kids Don’t Need This…” I mean…. Don’t YOU need a few of these? Think “Rolling Cooler” combined with “Sled Dog Team” and these things end up a long-reach delivery system!

Now this talk of Milwaukee coming out with one of these… I’m normally team DeWALT… but… Then I thought of something… Milwaukee MX Fuel Battery Packs!

Holy Jebus H Tapdancing Christ would it ever be amazing to retrofit a PowerWheels, or just flat out BUILD a kid-friendly vehicle using those HUGE Brushless Motors, and Batteries!!

Just… Think about that a minute… Just mount the Core Boring drill on the back of a simple waterproof raft, replace the core driller with a propeller and shaft… Single side battery OR double side MX Fuel! Fun for the whole family!

Major investment, but this post really put the idea in my head… that would be some VERY serious power you could add to a kid’s toy, without rendering it junk in the process! (As in the battery wouldn’t be so heavy as to destroy the frame, if you have to embed it higher into it, kind of thing.)

I don’t remember exactly, but when I say “I don’t need this,” it’s usually me publicly trying to convince myself of something. =)

I’ve almost bought it maybe 5 times now. Absolutely would have if the kit weren’t only set for store pickup or paid delivery.

Keep an eye on Lowe’s after Christmas – gotta be someone who ordered one and returned it and it might show up in clearance.

The car looks pretty cool. My kid had a 12v Peg Perego Gator from age 2 to just after he turned 5. He drove it daily the whole time unless the snow got too deep.

At age 3 we put in new batteries – a 6v and a 12v with matched amp hr ratings. I’m sure there are losses, but it certainly looked like a 50% speed bump.

That’s really the speed those cars should be in my opinion – especially since most have a second gear lockout and you could prevent young kids from using it until they’re ready.

I expect that’s not possible (at least not easily) with the Kobalt. But using power tools batteries is a neat trick.

P.s. 18v is the max you can do without modding the electronics to adjust power delivery – unless you don’t mind stripping the gears regularly.

Is there a parent lock or something that can allow the speed to be higher? Weird it has so many volts but only 3.72 Mph..?
