Happy Labor Day 2023! There are some tool deals to be had, here’s a quick roundup of where you can expect to save money on tools today.
Should you shop Labor Day deals and sales? Yes. But also keep in mind that Black Friday is just weeks away. I think that there will be particularly aggressive tool promos this year for the entire 2-3 month holiday shopping season. Oh, and there’s another Prime Day sales event next month too.
Tool Nut – Save on Milwaukee Tools, Dewalt, Makita, Skil, and more

Acme Tools – Save 12% on select outdoor tools, 20% off clearance items, 15% off select Diablo blades
Amazon – save on select Dewalt tools, a new selection of Dewalt tool deals, and energizer batteries
Amazon has the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum on sale. I own this model and have had great experiences with it. I recently bought the Dyson V15 – also on sale via 3rd party sellers right now – and like that it’s longer-lasting. The V15 also has a laser for dust and dirt visibility.
Home Depot – Save on outdoor power equipment
Home Depot also has major savings on cordless power tools right now, featuring Milwaukee, Dewalt, Ridgid, and Ryobi.
Ohio Power Tool – Tool deals featuring Milwaukee, Bosch, Dewalt, Ridgid, EGO

KC Tool – Save on Knipex forged wire strippers
MSC – Save on orders over $99 with coupon code TOOLGUY (ends 9/30)
That’s TOOLGUY, not TOOLGUYD, because MSC promo codes are limited to 7 characters. They couldn’t tell us what the discount does, only that it saves on orders over $99. The savings could vary depending on the product brand or SKU. Also check out MSC’s sales flyers. Promo codes usually don’t stack on those items.
Lowe’s – Save on select tools and misc household products

Harbor Freight – 4-day sale, including 25% off any single item (with brand and product category restrictions)

Anyone see a good deal on decent magnetic bit holders? I’ve chewed through or lost most of mine recently. Had bad luck with the last batch of both Makita and Dewalt..
Stuart
What was your bad luck with Dewalt and Makita?
Bosch’s are decent ($5 at Amazon). I also like Milwaukee’s ($5.47 at Home Depot).
I rarely see deals on bit holders. Most of my bit holders over the past few years were purchased as part of promo-priced impact bit sets.
Alex2kohr
The Dewalt magnetic bit holders are a pain to remove the bits, sometimes need pliers to remove the bit.
fred
DRPD sells the PB Swiss brand. I’m not sure how good they are but their what PB Swiss tools that I have are quite good.

They are having a labor day sale – using code LABOR23 – but PBSwiss stuff is generally not cheap
BigTimeTommy
Which Makita? The XPS bit holder is the only non-blocking one I still use.
Ryan
Not a deal but well worth the full price. Locking collar is same diameter as the body, just pull back on collar to release bit.

I bought all sizes have been happy with them. No problems using with impact.
Michael Moscicki
TSO is also having a sale. It’s mostly track saw accessories. Not cheap, but then again track saw accessories aren’t cheap, especially ones made in USA.
“TSO Labor Day Super Sale
We’re celebrating the Labor Day Weekend with special discounts and free shipping in the contiguous U.S. on orders $49 and up! Save 10% off TSO and MICROJIG products, and 5% off UJK products. No coupon code necessary—discounts automatically applied. Hurry, this special savings ends September 4!”
Steve L
TSO sale is “up to” 10% site wide. Not 10% off site wide.
I tried to order another pair of their FlipStops and found myself looking at no discount. So no order.
fred
Some other sales promoted via recent emails:
HValley Tools (new name for MLCS/Eagle America) offering 10% off and free shipping.
Prestacycle – several bike tools on sale
TSO Products – 10% off sitewide – free shipping on $49+
Bakers Gas – $10 off with code LABOR23
ALL-WALL Equipment – 10% off with code AWLD10
Aircraft Spruce – various discounts using code WORK23
KC Tool – free shipping using code LABORDAY
Rockler – 20% off 1 item using coupon code “V257443”.
DRPD – 10% off everything or 20% off over $300 using code LABOR23

The Acme Tools Labor Day “Sale” is incredibly deceptive. Among other things, I’ve seen the older version of the Metabo HPT triple hammer 18V impact (WH18DBDL2M) as part of the “sale” for $329 before discount. However, the newer version of the Metabo HPT triple hammer 18V impact (WH18DCM) is only $159 with an additional $20 off using code SAVEHPT. You’d spend substantially more if you shopped the “sale” and bought the older version of the impact.
I absolutely hate it when retailers do deceptive sale practices.
Stuart
Lowe’s has the WH18DBDL2M for $390, Ace Tool for $410, Tool Nut and Tool Barn for $409.
It’s a bad deal, but I don’t think it’s deceptive by intent.
Mateo
Koken is 25% off on their site with labor25.
fred
Is that the KokenUSA site?
I see Palmac offering 10% off using code LABORDAYSALE
https://palmac.net/
And DRPD has a 10-20% off sale – but haven’t spied the 25% off deal
Mateo
Yes it’s their USA site.
fred
Just for curiosity I compared 2 Ko-Ken prices comparing 25% off at KokenUSA vs 10% off at Palmac.net
The Palmac prices turned out to be lower – since their starting point is already discounted – while the KOKEN USA site starts off with MSRP.
So, if you plan to buy it might be worth comparing.
Arthur
So I did the math on and if you buy directly on Koken official website you may save more money. Free shipping, 25% off literally any product, direct warranty process and based off what others have said there isn’t any tax either. Also you are receiving this directly from the manufacturer so there isn’t a middle man and money is going directly to the manufacturer.
I’d take free shipping over 10% any day of the week especially since there any minimum order requirements either.
Adam
Sorry Stuart, not connected to post but might be off interest to you. Dewalt has just released in U.K a cordless 36v (2 x18v) cordless pressure washer DCMPW 1600N-
https://youtu.be/Zc-EYtHZQJ0?si=q9Wu8BcDTGTOO6O1
Why 36v when there is flexvolt platform. Normally I am aware of upcoming models before launch, had no idea this time. Selling around £390.00 bare at moment. Performance seems to be on the very low end of diy market
Stuart
Thanks! I’ll keep an eye out for news about a similar model here.
2x 20V Max batteries also allows for 2x FlexVolt batteries for longer runtime.
What would you rather have for an extended-use tool, a FlexVolt tool powered by a 60V Max 4Ah battery, or an 18V/20V Max tool equipped with two the same batteries in 18V/20V Max 12Ah configuration?
60V Max vs 20V Max operation might be a little more efficient, but 2x 18V or 20V Max batteries opens the product up to more potential users and allows for longer runtime before having to change batteries.
Maybe there are other reasons, but based on this I think they made the right call.
Chris
I just got the 5AH powerstack with a dcb115 charger for $99 at FastenersInc.
Adam
I would prefer the 54/60 option due to my peformance needs given the unit swallows the flex batteries with ease. I would have 54/60 @ 8ah,with the higher performance. They quote 2 x 18/20v @ 5ah with 27min run time at lowest setting and 58min run time for 2 x 54/60v @3ah at same setting.
Wish there was a break from non stop replacement drivers/impact drivers etc and more focus on other power tools especially with the way battery design & tech is going.
Stuart
Note: We’re talking about EU pressure washer Adam brought up in an earlier comment.
So you want 2x 60V Max for 120V Max? They only did that with the cordless miter saws that were included in the first wave of FlexVolt tools.
Dewalt launched a new FlexVolt miter saw last year https://toolguyd.com/dewalt-flexvolt-cordless-miter-saw-dcs781/ and it operates off a single battery.
They replaced their FlexVolt air compressor with a 20V Max FlexVolt Advantage model.
Even the new FlexVolt snowblower is described as a 60V Max model, and can operate off of one or two batteries.
Brands update drills and impacts occasionally. Dewalt is also filling in blanks, such as with the new rivet tools.
There are more cordless pressure washers come out, but it’s a difficult category, similar to vacuums and dust collectors.
If 2x 60V Max 3Ah batteries (those FlexVolt batteries would deliver 9Ah of charge capacity at 20V Max operation) deliver 58 minutes at the lowest setting, what makes you think that a pure FlexVolt model would deliver any better?
That’s at the lowest setting. What about the highest power setting?
You said “Performance seems to be on the very low end of diy market.” They’re going to have to balance performance with reasonable runtime expectations, regardless of 20V Max or FlexVolt compatibility.
Maybe they’ll test the market with the broader-interest 20V Max model before considering FlexVolt-dedicated options.
Adam
Apologies for fresh comment vs reply, I think that my fat fingers are to blame. I fear I might have come across wrong. My compliant with Dewalt is their use of 36v when the they have 54v. I understand the short term diy/consumer economics but the 54v model will produce corded sub 3kw performance figures ignoring run time. I operate a 2kw kaercher, I use it for domestic & business. There is no way I would replace mine for van/patio cleaning with any cordless model currently available. Business wise however, the 54v model would have been time saving for the actual 10-20min I use it for. If the tech is there then you must start somewhere, Milwaukee done it with MX fuel
