Leatherman Bit Driver Extender and 1/4″ Hex Adapter

Leatherman Bit Extender Adapter

Wouldn’t it be awesome to be able to use ordinary screwdriver bits with your favorite Leatherman multi-tool? Well, you can! Not only does the bit driver extender allow for improved fastener access, it can hold Leatherman’s special flattened bits and standard 1/4″ hex screwdriver bits.

Leatherman’s larger multi-tools, such as the Skeletool, Charge, Surge, and Wave models, feature bit adapters designed for Leatherman’s proprietary thin-profile screwdriver bits. Bit kits are available, and while they’re actually quite well made, standard hex bits are easier to come by and cheaper to replace.

The bit driver extension is 3.25″ long and fits a number of other Leatherman tools and knives. Here’s a complete list of the tools you can use this with. It is available with a silver or black oxide finish.

If the ~$10 or so seems a bit high, you can probably grind down the sides of any spare bit holder you have laying around.

I have the Leatherman 830045 Removable Bit Driver for the Blast, and while it will accept hex shaped bits, common 1″ bits get lost in it, as the socket is about 3/4″ deep. This is because it needs to accept the double ended Leatherman flat bits. Fortunately the leatherman serves as a pliers to get the bit out again, as grasping onto the protuding 1/4″ of a #0 phillips head isn’t something my fingers can do.

The bit extender does suffer from the same design “feature,” but I’ve never had an issue pulling out most Phillips, slotted, hex, and larger Torx bits with just my fingers.

I believe that they have an adapter for models like the Juice series (it works on other models too) that lets them use the flat bits as well as normal bits. It also seems to offer some of the reach of this extender as well. Why should only the full-sized tools have all the fun?

Yep, that’s the one that fits on smaller tools. It’s a bit expensive – $15 via Amazon plus shipping.
