Leatherman has recently come out with two new tactical multitools, the MUT Utility, and MUT EOD. These MUT multitools are overbuilt and feature specialty tools for cleaning and maintaining the M16/AR15 family of assault rifles.
Leatherman’s MUTs also feature an assortment of general purpose tools, with most commonly used and wearable parts being field-replaceable with a Torx T8 bit.
The MUT Utility and MUT EOD both feature a vast selection of robust tools, including: pliers, combination straight/serrated knife blade, saw, hammer, cutting hook, scraper, cleaning rod and brush, bit drivers, and wire cutters.
There are a few differences between the MUT Utility and MUT EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) tools. Whereas the MUT Utility features regular needlenose combination pliers with hard-wire cutters, the MUT EOD instead features ‘Military Performance Spec Cap Crimpers’ and fuse-wire cutters. In addition, the MUT Utility has a firearm disassembly punch, and the MUT EOD a replaceable C4 punch.

Hi there, looking for one for my husband and not sure which is best eod or the utility…. He has many riffles and is a recreational shooter??? But likes to have the best… Can u help as to which one… The disassembly punch or the c4???? I have no idea…. Thanks for your time cheers!!
Kristie, the MUT is specifically for maintaining the M16, AR15, and similar variants, while the EOD is more suited for bomb disposal and related tasks.
There are quite a few other multi-tools models if you think your husband would be interested in a more general-purpose multi-tool. My usual recommendation is for the Leatherman Wave, a great multi-tool to start out with.
the MUT utility would be best for your husband if he indeeds have a M16/AR-15. you should ask him first if he does if you don’t know weapons very well. If he does you should also see if he uses those guns often. If yes to both questions then the MUT Utility would be perfect.
