Over at Amazon, they have the Leatherman Skeletool on sale as part of their Black Friday 2020 deals week.
This isn’t exactly a new promo, but my mention of it was buried at the end of a Gerber multi-tool post, and this Leatherman deal really deserves its own time in the spotlight.

But I paid x-amount of dollars for this tool 4 years ago! Yes, but that was 4 years ago. I miss those days too, but costs and pricing go up over time.
These days, the Skeletool is regularly priced at $65. Right now, it’s on sale for $48. Amazon says you’re saving 26% with this deal, and that looks about right.
The silver, green, blue, and black handle versions are all on sale. If you want the one with black handles, you’ll save an extra 5% if you “clip” the on-page coupon.
All of these Leatherman Skeletool models are sold by 3rd party sellers and shipped/fulfilled by Amazon.
Despite buying and using plenty of other multi-tools, the Leatherman Skeletool is still one of my favorites. It’s a fantastic EDC multi-tool, featuring pliers, a screwdriver with replaceable bits, a knife blade, and carabiner clip with built-in bottle opener.
The Skeletool now has a partially serrated blade, which makes it especially versatile. Plain edge knife blades are easier to sharpen, partially serrated can more effectively cut through fibrous materials.

Leatherman Skeletool Multi-Tool Review – a Minimalist but Very Handy EDC Companion

I’m a big fan of multi tools and Leatherman in particular. I still rock an old school “SideClip” circa who knows when. The Skeletool was always a pass for be because of the whole carabiner/bottle opener end/thing. From a design standpoint it just seems like a lot of space for something I’d never use. But they seem popular so apparently it’s a non-issue for most.

I bought the Freestyle, thinking it would be more compact, but missed the carabiner on occasion.
I don’t think it was popular, I don’t really see it anymore. According to Leatherman’s website, it was discontinued.

Stu,
Have you seen any announcement for a shapeoko Black Friday deal this year yet?
Eric
Their Black Friday deals are now live. Full details on their blog: https://carbide3d.com/blog/2020/black-friday-2020/
“15% off everything in our store except machines (Shapeoko Pro, Shapeoko, and Nomad) and Amana cutters.
Shapeoko Standard/XL/XXL includes a Carbide Compact Router and a BitSetter.”

I bought a Freestyle too, and it works fine, though I’ve missed the the bit holder that the Skeletool has. Maybe the Freestyle took minimalism too far.

I’ve got one. I like it better than I expected. For not a lot of tools (compared to my SOG powerlock, for example) it usually has what I need. Pretty well thought out selection. Way smaller and easier to carry too.

I’d probably be in for one if the CX version was on sale, the serrated knife is a pass for me. It’s probably a good thing though, you cost me too much money as it is around the holidays…..

I bought 3 of these Skeletools with the serrated blades when they were on sale at HD a couple of years ago (one for each glove box & one for the house). Turns out I absolutely HATE serrated blades.
Contacted Leatherman customer service to buy replacement plain blades to “fix” the three that I owned. Leatherman, while they clearly make a plain blade, flat out REFUSED to sell me plain blades for the three Skeletools I owned.
Their solution was for me to simply but new Skeletools with plain blades…
Leatherman lost me as a customer FOREVER.
Stuart
A vast majority of multi-tool and knife brands won’t sell *just the knife blade* to anyone.

The “limited edition” black and silver is on sale too. LEATHERMAN, Skeletool Lightweight Multitool with Combo Knife and Bottle Opener, Limited Edition Black/Silver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G7JRZQN/

Can you swap out the blade on this? I understand the benefits/uses for serrated knife, but I prefer plane blade.
Bolt
You can. There’s probably someone selling them on eBay or some other place, but you probably won’t be saving any money versus just spending more upfront on getting a plain edge in the first place.

I would have gotten if the cutters were replaceable like on charge tti +.

1. The ‘biner clip is really handy to clip onto D rings, chest straps, loops.
2. I have several of them each with the complete bit set and extender in a nylon mole case. It’s nice to know if I am out in the woods that I can adjust tiny glasses screws, various hex and torx fasteners. Plus with the extender I can use standard 1/4″ hex bit accessories. If I want to add a couple of drill bits to my emergency kit. For example, making a hole in the tip or tail of skis so they can be lashed together for an emergency sled or shelter.

The day they offer a full Black Oxide edition, coupled with a Black Oxide Skeletool KB, and replace the Knife on the Skeletool in question with a full Serrated Clip End Knife, like on the Wave and Surge? That’s the day I go Skeletool shopping.
I genuinely don’t like combo blades. It’s… kinda a thing with me… Plus I’ve grown to love the Black Oxide editions since buying my Surge that way. Even got the Bit Extender in that scheme.
I already own a few Leatherman tools, and I always find a way to justify why THAT one needs to go with the others. The Skeletool isn’t quite enough yet, and I’m hoping for a Crunch in Black Oxide at some point. They all bring at least SOMETHING to the table that compliments the two main tools I own.
