Lenox Tight Space Tubing Cutters

Lenox recently came out with a new tight spaces tubing cutter design. These compact c-shaped cutters feature stainless steel rollers and an optimized shock-resistant blade geometry for less burrs and more cuts.

These new cutters can be used on copper, brass, and aluminum tubes, and are available in individual 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″ sizes, or as part of a 3 piece kit. The cutting blades are user-replaceable.

I know that it’d take a lot more tensile strength to make one that works for steel, but it’d be rather handy when making new bike attachements from salvaged bike parts (as I occasionally do). However, these might look like they’d fit the bill nicely in the case of creating a compact, lightweight fabrication kit (cutting pipe is always handy—even if you’re only doing it for props and computer mods).

In order to be able to cut steel tubing, the tool would have to be longer or else no one (except for superman) would be able to rotate the cutter.

Also, the cutters are not adjustable and are only available in 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″ sizes. The only part of a bike I could see these used on are 1″ diameter forks. Seatposts are larger, and other aspects might not be perfectly cylindrical even if they fit these sizes. Then there are the wall thicknesses to consider, which may be much larger than the typical tubing these cutters were designed for.

I plan to test these out in different scenarios. I have no doubt that they will perform well in cramped work areas, but their small size may hurt their performance compared to larger tools when used in less restrictive applications.
