Logix Made in USA Ammo Can Style Tool Box in Clear Plastic

I recently posted about the ArtBin mini tool box, which I find to be convenient and versatile, and a reader pointed me towards Logix’s similar ammo can-style plastic tool box.

The Logix is on sale right now for $4.98, which reflects a discount of nearly 20%. I could definitely use more at that price, and I’m sure some of you might feel the same way.

They call this a craft box, but it can handle tools, supplies, or whatever else you want to use it for.

I bought two of the Logix boxes for comparison, when they were $6 and change, and would say that they feel a little more cheaply made compared to the ArtBin. However, the ArtBin costs considerably more, even at its lowest price.

I’m not certain who makes the Logix. I’ve seen similar style tool boxes from Sheffield and Plano, but cannot easily identify the manufacturing brand. The ArtBin is made by Flambeau.

This Logix box measures 11.5″ x 5.06″ x 7.25″. It’s made from translucent plastic and has a single latch and a folding handle.

Price: $4.98 (at the time of this posting, subject to change)
COO: USA

Update 2/5/23: The price went back to $6.15, which is still good.

Update 2/6/23: The price is back down to $4.98.

    Will give one a try.

Logix (in this instance) is a trademark of Great Neck Saws . The UPC on this box (076812147400) confirms the Great Neck parentage.

Walmart sells one (for $6.98) under their “Hypertough” brand that looks like a clone:

I think that Keter makes some of the Walmart boxes – so maybe Keter makes the Logix box for Great Neck.

I’m guessing that this Toolguyd post may have promoted more than just a few purchases on Amazon. I may have jumped on it earlier than you – as the expected arrival date is 2/13 for me.

The ETA was 2/13 at the start.

It’s not a big deal for the backorder to have been pushed 2 more weeks for additional orders.

The next-lowest price is $7.98 at Lowe’s for the identical-looking Sheffield. Logix and Sheffield are both Great Neck brands, and so it looks to be the same product,

A little more sleuthing and it looks like the Hyper Tough brand is associated with Walmart – Apollo. So maybe Apollo Plastics (Ohio) is the OEM for both Walmart and Great Neck

My understanding was that Apollo is just another entry-priced brand.

There are a finite number of plastic molding companies.

It’s not Flambeau, and so I thought maybe Plano. I don’t think GreatNeck does their own plastics production, but that’s always possible.

The look and exact dimensions of the Walmart Hyper-Tough Box – priced at $6.98 – seem identical to the Great Neck offerings. Not conclusive – but it sure looks like they have the same OEM. There are indeed lots of plastic molding companies in the USA – and I may have been reading too much into the fact that the Hyper-Tough brand is registered to Walmart-Apollo LLC – jumping to a perhaps erroneous conclusion that Apollo Plastics was the OEM.

I kept quiet when I saw that ArtBin mini tool box post and kept a tighter lip when I saw the comment for the Hyper Tough version.

I have been using the “art” version for a couple of years now and since the secret is out can highly recommend them. They are cheap, made in America, and have weathered the South Texas heat of my uninsulated garage (and quite recently the cold as well) without any issues at all. The plastic is not yellowing, has not turned brittle, and the hinges have held with regular use. They also stack easily and have a rubber seal on the lid.

I have kept quiet hoping that I would have access to these for years with my only competition being ladies in the fabric aisle (at my local Wal-Mart, that is where they are located). I expect these to be hard to find soon…

Oh this is perfect for that guy complaining about the logo on the artbin box. Now this is a plastic box for tough masculine men.

Just put a Rainbow letter “F” on the art bin box and you’d have an even more masculine box, lol.

These are great; I have 2 already that I use for small electronics stuff (solder, flux, etc etc), and grabbed another 4 today to help tidy up the hobby closet.

Even my wife thought they looked cool, which may be a first for a tool storage purchase!

The timing of this is perfect for me. In cleaning my workspace I unearthed a couple boxes of assorted art supplies and such. This looks like a quick and affordable way to sort and stow what I have on hand so it is easily identifiable and accessible.

    Thanks for the great content!

Picked up 4 of these on Amazon about 2 weeks ago. 2 got put to use right away, still trying to find the best use for the other 2. By the way, the labels peel right off without leaving any residue…

Mine just arrived; they smell of ethanol. Slightly more heft than my Plano boxes, a couple mm wider and longer on the interior, and with a tighter latch. Design is strikingly similar. The registration of the Logix when stacked is a little more confident. Both are PP. Not a lot to choose between the two except for color and price. Thanks for pointing these out!

Most plastic products smell when new, especially those that have weather sealing. I always assume it’s a mold release agent or initial degassing.

This is a pleasant smell, but a good reminder to let them air out before sealing up sensitive objects.
