Lowe’s has kick-started one of their Black Friday 2019 tool deals a little early! This Craftsman 216pc mechanics tool set with Versastack tool box is now at its sale price of $99.

The tool kit comes with 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″ drive ratchets, sockets, extensions, wrenches, and some other handle tools.

It comes with a 3-drawer tool box that’s also compatible with Craftsman Versastack tool boxes and accessories.

There are a lot of mechanics tool set specials this time of year, and a couple at $99, but this kit grabs and holds my attention longer thanks to the unique tool box. There are other mechanics tool set tool box configurations, but they’re usually blow-molded and no-frills affairs.

My local Lowe’s store hid their display of these tool boxes, and will presumably put them back on Friday. If you ask me, I’d say beat the rush and in-store chaos and place your order online – it ships free. In-store pickup is also an option.

This looks to be a decent set for DIYers and homeowners, or maybe as a portable tool kit for anyone who doesn’t want to empty their tool chests for remote projects.

Sale Price: $99

    Thanks. Ordered.

This is the only item that I am interested in from Lowes’ Black Friday flyer. The dewalt 2 drawer tstak box is about $45, hopefully this one is really compatible with tstak as expected.

It absolutely is. The versastack 2 drawer has gone down to $22 (before contractor discount). This box looks like it doesn’t have as good quality hardware but has way less wasted space than the two drawer. It’s a pretty exciting case I think, if only there was room in my life for another socket set.
I worry that getting it shipped the heavy sockets will end up damaging the case…

I had the same concern about damaging the box due to shipping, so I chose store pickup.

My order of the Home Depot tough system mechanic tools box got damaged by UPS. Tough systems are not that tough at all.

Shipping has destroyed some blowmolded cases, but not others. In-store pickup is safer, but I think shipping should be fine.

I had an empty tstak two drawer get damaged in shipping. With this one being loaded, I think it’s odds of being damaged while shipping only increase. However, I’m sure they’ll make it right if it does arrive damaged.

I did a quick search and didn’t see a list of all the socket sizes/wrenches included. Anyone have this info?

Any thoughts on this one vs. the 268-piece Husky set for $99 at Home Depot for a homeowner and DIYer in the garage …?

There’s a 270pc Husky set that will be $99 for Black Friday.

The Husky set gives you more, 1/2″ tools, some wrenches. But you also get some 12pt sockets, and it looks like a couple more hex keys. Could go either way. The Husky set will likely be in ample supply. You could always buy both sets, be gentle with the packaging/seals and return the one you don’t want.

Its a decent set, especially at that price. Taiwan COO, same quality as Crescent /KOBALT/Husky.

Tractor Supply will have a similar DeWalt version for $99 starting on Friday. It’s not TSTAK or Tough System compatible like this Craftsman though. To some people that makes all the difference.

Looks like the DeWalt from Tractor Supply would be better since it’s all 6 pt

That looks like a good set too, but $150 is a bit pricey. With Husky and Craftsman being essentially store brands, replacements *should* be more easily available.

It’s going to be 99 on Black Friday so same price point as the Husky and Craftsman sets.

Sockets are a category where I am fairly ignorant. It seems like 12 pt sockets would be more expensive to make. If 6 pt is better then why wouldn’t they just stick to that?

        Some people prefer 12pt.

Let’s say you’re using a breaker bar in tight spaces. There are scenarios where a 12pt socket will fit but a 6pt won’t.

I don’t know how sockets are formed. Are they broached? Some methods would no additional tooling or steps for 12pt sockets compared to 6pt.

Followed the provided link to Lowe’s – it’s $129.00! Is there a code I need to enter?

      That’s odd. I still see $99.00.

Try another zip code! Lowe’s sometimes does weird things like change the price depending on zip code, and I always forget about that.

Wow! Changed my zip code from 20155 (VA) to 32806 (FL) and the price dropped to $99.

Guess I have to have it shipped instead of an in store pickup!

        Thanks for the workaround!

Bought this today and have yet to open it. Tools are made in Taiwan.

Picked it up in store today, and already used the 3/8 and 1/2 sets for two hours today.

The box: yes, it is compatible with dewalt tstak. However, it’s really cheaply made and I won’t trust it to stack other boxes on it. The drawers are so convenient to retrieve tools, and it’s a pleasure to use it.

The sockets: clearly marked in the drawers, and work just fine.

In summary, it’s a happy purchase, better than the dewalt tough system one ($150).

Are there inserts in the drawers or are the drawers molded for the sockets and stuff. Curious in case I would want to use the case to carry other tools.
