Lowe’s has a Super-Cool Craftsman Special for Black Friday

Craftsman V20 Cordless Power Wheels Hero

One of Lowe’s Black Friday 2022 specials is a huge surprise – a Craftsman motorized riding toy.

The Craftsman Power Wheels-like riding vehicle – modeled after real-world UTVs – is powered with the brand’s V20 (20V Max) cordless tool batteries.

Buy it at Lowe’s

Lowe’s is selling the Craftsman V20 riding toy as a kit, which comes with the vehicle, a 2Ah battery, and a charger, for $249.

You can order online with delivery (for a fee), or free in-store or curbside pickup.

I have not seen this at any nearby Lowe’s stores yet. In-store or curbside pickup is probably the better way to go, as these might not last very long once they’re on the sales floor.

Craftsman V20 Cordless Power Wheels Gear Shifter

The Craftsman V20 UTV toy has a slew of real life-like features, such as working gear shift for forward and reverse controls.

Craftsman V20 Cordless Power Wheels Steering Wheel and Sound Controls

Kids can also control the lights, horn, and sound effects via buttons on the dashboard.

Craftsman V20 Cordless Power Wheels Working Lights Display

The Craftsman toy also has working headlights, as well as a working light bar.

According to the specs, the lights are powered by separate AA batteries.

Craftsman V20 Cordless Power Wheels Features

Additional features include dual V20 motors for more power and better traction, two parent-selectable speeds (2.5 and 5 MPH) that can be toggled via a hidden rocker switch, and rear open storage compartment.

Craftsman says the 2Ah battery charges “lightning fast” when “compared to other battery-powered ride-on toys.” The battery is fully recharged in one hour with the included charger. Runtime is said to be “up to 40 minutes.”

To sum things up, this is a dual motor UTV riding toy, with controllable LED headlights and light bar, plus horn and sound effects, and it’s powered by Craftsman V20 cordless power tool batteries.

There’s an obvious downside – the recommended age range is 3 to 6 years old.

Price: $249

A couple of years I picked up the Kobalt Jeep for $150 and that will go down in history as one of the best deals of all time: https://toolguyd.com/kobalt-40v-kids-car-power-wheels-deal-12102020/

We got about 2 years out of it and it was still 100% going strong when my youngest outgrew it and we gave it to some friends. The tool battery charging functionality was a game-changer. That little Jeep also had working suspension, an MP3/USB radio and rubber contact strips on the tires. All of that made for a durable little vehicle. I can’t see that this Craftsman one has any of that but just being based on a tool battery is a big plus. And, if they discount them as quickly as they did the Kobalt one, sub-$200 is a great deal.

I drove around to the 4 closest Lowes hunting for that thing. Turns out my neighbor snagged the last one at the 5th closest Lowes the same night.

Fantastic! Just wish I fell within the weight limit.

One downside though – I ran my kid’s ride-on with a 12v and 6v wired in-series to achieve 18v. Before the upgrade he found the top speed to be disappointing. After, he was much happier. I bet that would be a lot harder to do in a unit that already uses an 18v battery but still has the 5mph top speed.

P.s. Increasing the voltage is hard on the motors and gears so beware that something might break if you do this. There are soft-start mods you can do, but I just ran it as-is and figured I’d replace what broke – but nothing ever did.

If you combine the voltage increase with traction aids for the hard plastic tires… that’s just asking for it.

Is there a lift kit available for this, so 3 year old can join parent in their FJ, Jeep, Bronco or other? Disappointed it makes no mention of flag pole holder. Has to be made across the Pacific. Does it have a wall-mounted quick charging system so it can parked along side the Tesla and charged overnight? For the overly concerned parent is there appropriate safety gear included (HANS device, halo loop a la F1, safety harnesses, fire suppression devices)?
I am considering buying a fleet of these for the neighborhood kids (if I can find any, seems like families are forbidden here in California) so they can block off their streets and drift all night long (which seems to be encouraged here in California). With those amazing plastic tires doing donuts shouldn’t be an issue.
    LOL, bah humbug!

If you bought the neighborhood kids each one of these, you would be 100x more remembered than the house that gives out full candy bars in Halloween.

Seems like a good idea until you really need a charged battery to do some work and they’re all discharged from the kid using them with the toy.

The trick to that is to only buy this if your tools are on some different platform!

One of my good friends told me the specific reason why he bought Kobalt and Bosch tools was specifically because his father and his brothers already owned Milwaukee, Makita, and Dewalt, and he didn’t want them borrowing his tools or batteries.

I saw a stack of these about a month back at my Lowes. Caught my eye, only as it seems every dad with power tools will modify their kids rider to use their brand batteries. Now Craftsman can rope the kids into their brand this way

Check estsy or ebay, someone has probably 3d printed some, you’ll just need to cut the connector off the car, and wire your new adapter in.
