Lowe’s Now Carries Viper Tool Cabinets

Viper Tools Green Roller Cabinet

Lowe’s now carries Viper Tool storage products, complementing their selection of Craftsman and Kobalt tool roller cabinets and chests.

The Viper 41″ 6-drawer roller cabinet shown above features a 19 gauge steel frame, 24″ depth, and ball bearing drawer slides rated to 100 pounds. The power tool drawer is rated to 150 pounds.

Viper Tools 4-Drawer Roller Cabinet

Shown here is Viper’s 30″ W x 24″ D x 41″ H 4-drawer rolling cabinet, which is large for a big box store single bay tool box. It features 18 gauge frame construction and its drawers are rated to 100 pounds.

This 5-drawer tool cabinet features 100 pound drawer slides as well.

Viper Tools Wall Cabinet

Lowe’s is carrying other types of Viper products as well, such as this 36″ wall cabinet.

Viper Tools Workbench

The Viper workbench measures 72″ W x 20″ D x 40″ H. A 4-outlet and USB power strip is installed to the metal backsplash.

Viper’s products are premium-priced. At the time of this posting, the 41″ roller cab is $799, the 30″ roller cabinet is $1429, the rolling cart is $1299, the wall cabinet is $570, and the workbench is $574.

It has been more than 10 years since Viper last attracted my attention. While pricey, it’s good to see Viper gaining in visibility, and it’s good to see Lowe’s expanding their storage product selection.

Why is this important? By itself, one new tool storage brand is not a big deal. But, Lowe’s recently started carrying Sata tools, and they announced a new partnership with Klein Tools – breaking Home Depot’s long-term exclusivity. They added other brands to their online catalog as well, such as Capri and Urrea. Many small developments add up and can contribute to major changes.

I’ve only ever encountered Viper on Amazon. Maybe this will make it slightly more affordable since you can pick it up instead of shipping to your house.

Haven’t heard of Viper before and I’m not sure I’d be in the market for one of their cabinets. I’d be inclined to stick with the brands I already have as I tend to stay pretty brand loyal. However, it’s interesting to me that Lowe’s is starting to carry the Capri brand. I have several of their torque wrenches and they seem to be good quality at a fair price…

Viper boxes tend to be dimensionally or visually distinct.

Meaning, if you have specific needs regarding tool box size, or want standout colors, they have options other brands don’t.

    Small typo,
“This 5-draer tool cabinet features 100 pound drawer slides as well”

    **5-drawer**

Lowes also seems to be carrying Cala’s (parent of Viper) other line of Pink boxes:

That’s what originally tipped me off – a family member ran into a pink box at a store recently. That got be looking and sure enough Lowe’s added a lot of Viper boxes to their online catalog. I haven’t seen them in stores yet.

There was an article here recently about the hassle of residential delivery of large tool cabinets/work benches etc. by truck freight: mostly that you don’t have any control over (or often, even any knowledge of) when the item will arrive at your doorstep, or what condition it will be in.

But, as mentioned above, if your brand in question is carried by your local large box store, as Viper now is, then you can get it delivered there and pick it up at your convenience, when you’ve had time to arrange for assistance at home with moving it to wherever it goes inside your house/garage/workshop etc., and you can inspect the item fully for damage before having it loaded into your vehicle. (You do, of course, need to have a truck or SUV with a large enough cargo area).

So I think it’s great for large box stores to add more brands in their catalogs like this.

Yeah, I think that’s why you get large items delivered to the store, instead of your home. Easier to return if it is damaged. Just ordered/bought a large grill from Home Depot and had it delivered to the store for this reason…

The same can be true of heavier tools. We had problems with corded miter saws arriving damaged – so we changed over to buying locally and picking them up ourselves. Not so productive – considering our pay rates – but avoided the hassles we were experiencing.

I had similar problems with Gladiator Garageworks cabinets (a Whirlpool Co,) – multiples of which arrived damaged.

VIPER has been around a long time along with The Original Pink Box they were sold through sears under craftsman tools but were in my opinion better than craftsman’s professional grade tool boxes just an opinion. But yes you could get them at the store I am glad to see them return

That 5-drawer cabinet with the open shelf at the bottom looks interesting, it might be useful for many of the same tasks as a service cart. I’d like to look at one in store. That said, I feel their prices are all over the place. That cabinet I just mentioned costs a whopping $1300:
    https://www.lowes.com/pd/Viper-Tool-Storage/5013595721

Meanwhile, this fairly similar cabinet is only $430:
    https://www.lowes.com/pd/Viper-Tool-Storage/5013716575

Okay, the second one has only three drawers as opposed to five. However, it is larger, has a top compartment the $1300 model is lacking, and it’s described as having the same key features: 100lb drawer slides, 5in casters, and 19ga steel construction. The latter price isn’t too bad. But man, $1300 for only 100lb cap drawers (implying each slide is only good to 50 lbs) for the first one is crazy expensive. Consider that is no better rating than a $250 US General service cart and substantially worse than a $600 US General 34in chest.

Missed that, thank you. That’s an important distinction, but I’m not sure it’s worth that much of a premium.

I agree. From what I’ve seen, Viper’s prices aren’t generally that attractive – with some less so than others. Nevertheless, they have vibrant colors and some unique designs that might be just the right fit for some.

My Lowe’s had some of these displayed during the holiday season. I was unsure where Viper sat in the hierarchy of quality. The color options are fun.

As much as I dislike our local Lowes in general the two stainless steel Kobalt roll arounds I had them deliver “before” the pandemic were carefully unloaded and they took all the packaging with them.
I think the word “before” is the key here?
I would not expect this result from either big box at this point. Probably not Zoro or Grainger either. The world has changed.
I do like the Viper color options though…

I got the 41 green top and a 41 white top for great price. 175 for both because they both had very small dents. My favorite boxes ive had. 😁
