Magpul Zippered Tool Pouch

Magpul Tool Storage Pouch

Magpul makes a range of tactical and firearm accessories, some of which can be used for other purposes. For example, their rifle sling is sold by a camera accessory brand as a quick-release strap (and it works quite well at that, too).

Shown here is their DAKA “storage bag tactical pouch,” available in several sizes, styles, and colors.

I bought two for review purposes, and they’re actually quite suitable for tool storage, subbing in for typical zippered canvas or fabric tool pouches of similar design.

I like how the reinforced polymer fabric feels tough and durable, and the way they are constructed, the pouches offer more protection from the elements.

Magpul Tool Storage Pouch Small Size

The two sizes I bought are small (6×9 inch) and medium (7×12 inch). There’s also a large size (9×13 inch) and other styles. Of the two I have, I think the medium is the more useful size for hand tools. The smaller size is nicely proportioned for accessories.

The pouches aren’t gusseted, but can hold larger items than their flat design would have you believe. But, they aren’t gusseted, at the bottom, so they won’t expand to fit bigger kits. They also won’t stand up on their own.

The zippers are water-repelling YKK AquaGuard, which means the DAKA pouches will hold up to the elements, but they also require a little more effort to open and close.

However, they’re well-built, quality USA-made products, and I’ve found mine to be useful – the small has held batteries and small tools, and the large has been holding a couple of tools as part of a mobile tool kit.

I can heartily recommend these pouches, if you can see a purpose for them. They’re pricey, and certainly not “one size fits most” solutions. This is a somewhat specialty solution, but when the time comes and you need a durable weatherproof zippered pouch, these might be perfect.

They’re also well-sized and shaped to hold smart devices or tablets.

Price: $18+

Are the corners reinforced? I like the idea of being able to label them and hang them by the corners.

I don’t think so, at least they don’t feel to be.

Too bad, although not a deal breaker, reinforced corners would be a enticing selling point for me.

You might have a look at the TechToolSupply fastener bag. It’s designed to be hung from its corners.

They are great….keep in glove box for each trucks insurance card and registration. Also great to leave in each of the trailers to keep their paperwork.

I have the wallet and love it. My only complaint is that the clear window got milky very fast. It’s to the point that I have to pull my ID out when they card me. I’ve been meaning to pick one of these up for my Defender because it doesn’t have a glovebox.
