Makita’s new XFD01WSP 18V compact drill/driver kit is budget priced at just $99. The compact drill delivers up to 480 in-lbs of max torque (290 in-lbs PTI torque), is just 7-9/16″ long, and weighs in at 3.3 lbs.
With a 0-400 and 0-1500 RPM 2-speed gearbox, this drill is no speed demon, but it’s fast enough for most drilling and driving tasks.
If you’re thinking that this would be a great entry point into Makita’s 18V lineup of tools, keep in mind that this kit comes with a compact battery that won’t work with Makita’s heavier duty 18V tools.
I wouldn’t mention this deal if I didn’t think the kit had merit. It looks to be an affordable and decently featured drill for anyone with $100 to spend on a drill/driver.
Personally, if I had $99 to spend on a cordless drill, I would add another $10 to my budget and go for Bosch’s DDS181 and L-Boxx combo kit. I tend to prefer Bosch tools over Makita’s, and am also hugely fond of their L-Boxx storage products.
There aren’t many pro-grade options at the $99 price point, at least this time of year. If you can wait another two months or so, there are bound to be a few more options in November once the winter holiday deals kick off.
