Makita 18V Hammer Drill Kit XPH012

About two months, ago a Makita 18V LXT cordless hammer drill kit popped up onto Amazon with a $122 price. Shortly after I posted about the deal, the entire page disappeared from Amazon.

It seemed that this kit, model XPH012, which has what looks to be an LXT hammer drill version of their regular compact drill that’s also part of a $99 kit, was to be a special holiday deal, and so I kept it on my radar. This kit also comes with a fast charger and 3.0Ah li-ion battery pack.

The deal then reappeared on CPO’s site with a $130 price tag, but now that page has been removed as well.

Now, Home Depot’s listing went live, and the drill kit is in stock. You can order it online with free shipping and in-store pickup options. Not only that, it has a lower price – $99!

Update: It looks like Amazon has relaunched their product page and is now offering this kit for $99 as well! Thanks Frank for the heads-up!

Features

  • 480 in-lbs max torque
  • 2-speed gearbox (0-400, 0-1500 RPM)
  • 1/2″ chuck
  • LED worklight
  • 30 minute charger

If you ask me, this is a better bargain than Dewalt’s $99 DCD771C2 cordless drill Black Friday deal. You get a what looks to be a better drill, and a high capacity battery. Yes, there’s one battery in this kit vs. two in the Dewalt kit, but 3.0Ah offers potentially longer runtime than two 1.3Ah batteries. The 3.0Ah battery will also recharge in less time than just one of Dewalt’s 1.3Ah batteries on the slow charger included in their holiday deal drill kit.

I would sooner buy into Dewalt’s 20V Max cordless power tool lineup than Makita’s, but if we’re talking about $99 cordless drill deals, this Makita promo bundle wins hands-down.

My guess is that other retailers will match this deal as well, but for the time being Home Depot and now Amazon are the only ones who have product pages up for the XPH012 kit.

I just bought this bundle yesterday at my local Home Depot. They were not advertising it nor was it even displayed but they had 14 in stock. They had them stored away up high on a pallet. I show them an old ad I found on Google and sure enough 15 mins later I was walking out the store with it for $99. The employee said they had them in stock for months waiting for another promo sale. She said every once in a while someone will come in and ask for it and they go grab the forklift and get it down for them. Very nice drill at a very good price.

They’re probably holding onto stock, or received new stock, for Father’s Day promo displays.

Good to see this is better than the Dewalt. Is it better than the $99 Milwaukee deal though?

If you do not use your drill often ,what can you do to save the life of your batteries? If you do not charge a new batterie, will it stay good for a long time? thank you for yours advices, Ronald.
