Seems all of these deals are just the garden variety combo pricing deals always available pretty much. Not at all like the fairly crazy deals HD has put together with the Milwaukee M12 lineup…

Some of these deals are still very good, such as the “buy this combo kit/starter set, get 1 or 2 free tools” offers.

There aren’t many surprises when it comes to the combo kits or “special buy” drill and impact driver kits, but they’re still worth tracking.

Plus, a couple of readers asked for a Makita landing page, and so this is where I’ll add the major deals in case any others pop up.

I’d echo Julian’s comment. I’m already on the Makita platform and don’t need another starter kit, (think I have 3 or 4 double bay chargers!), however these are all good deals if you AREN’T already on the platform. I did get the $199 oscillating tool on Amazon though. I wish I could pick up Starlock blades at HD instead of online, and they weren’t so expensive, but the tool’s great.

I’m a fully stocked Makita guy myself with a growing compliment of Dewalt 20v and MIlwaukee m12 tools. I’ll say the Dewalt multi tool is simply the best value out there currently and is a great tool in use to boot. Great trigger, very ergonomic design and fastest blade changes. Haven’t seen in person Makita’s new multi tool, but base on how bad the last two were, and the price of the new one, I have no interest in them.

I didn’t have the last two Makitas and I’ve been using a corded Chicago Tools from Harbor Freight that’s about to die. I have used the DeWalt because my friend owns one. I liked it, I just can’t own 3 different chargers/batteries. It’s a shame too, because I like alot of the DeWalt and Milwaukee tools.

I’ve been eyeing their somewhat new 36V (18v x 2) earth auger. Amazon seems to have the lowest price right now – but I have not pulled the trigger (so to speak) yet on the sale:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08W15VHDK/

Adding in the the 3 Makita bits and extension pushes the cost to over $1000 before tax – so I may stick with renting an engine-driven tool when needed. Its also too new to the market to see any meaningful number of user reviews.

Yeah, I’m looking at that too. I have a job coming up where I have to dig about a dozen post holes below frost line, but I’d like to see it in action before I spend that much. You can buy a gas one for around $200 w/bits & extension I think.

I got the cordless version in May of 2018 from Home Depot in a kit with 4 batteries which was a pretty good deal. Don’t know about lately though.

Different promo pages. It’s different for each retailer, and different stock levels. Makita didn’t create a visual list like the other brands, at least not that I’ve seen.

Fingers crossed for track saws deals from Makita this year. I think the X2 deal of saw, track and even a 2nd pair of batteries from years past will never re-appear.

The chances are increasingly slim. There are so many deals on the other saws that I can’t imagine Makita adding one more on top of it.

They also have the 36V track saw coming out (but not here), and I’d bet they’re prioritizing production for that one right now.

You mean the 40v XGT one right?

Oddly enough I see on it on toolnut and it says it’s shipping today?

        https://www.toolnut.com/makita-gps01m1j-40v-max-xgt-brushless-cordless-6-1-2-in-plunge-circular-saw-aws-capable-4-0ah-kit.html

I’m torn between waiting for a deal on the X2 version and just biting the bullet on an XGT kit.

          Yes.

I see: “Inventory currently unavailable – Usually ships in 6 – 10 days.”

Tough Choice. The XGT is going to have reduced runtime unless you go with a much larger battery pack. But juggling batteries with the X2 version is a hassle. And if you have 2 XGT batteries, you can just swap them.

I’m not sure what to advise. It’s still not clear what Makita’s 18V and XGT plans are.

It looks like the regular Makita 18V X2 track saw bundles aren’t available right now, but there’s a new SKU where you get 4Ah batteries instead of the usual 5Ah batteries. Is this to widen the price difference between the 18V X2 and 40V Max XGT models?

I just entered the Makitaverse by purchasing the 40v plunge saw… wow! I should have done so years ago! I went 40v for the electronic anti-kickback feature. I would have preferred a physical splitter like the Fe$tool , but for the cost. I’ve cut up 4 sheets of 3/4″ birch ply and I charged it once over a week of making a lot of cuts.

Unfortunately, not that I have seen.

You can get the regular brushed D-handle jigsaw as a “free” tool selection in the “buy this, get free tools” promos, but I have not seen anything on this yet.

If there’s a coupon offer, that might be the best we can expect to see.

These are not very good deals. They want you to spend a lot up front or they’re just pushing out inventory or tools that are not selling well. More corporate BS marketing. Nothing to see here really.

Some people always say similar things about nearly every power tool brand. Are these mostly similar to last year’s holiday deals? Yes. And the year before that? Yes.

This year, there are more combo kit options eligible for free bonus/gift tools, and so there are differences.

I added info about the $25 off $100+ coupon offer earlier this morning. That’s always a good way to get whatever’s on your shopping list (if not already promo-priced) at a slight discount.

The fact of the matter is that the inventories required for these deals are carefully coordinated and built up. Holiday deals – at least the tools promos I try to focus on – are hardly ever the result of “leftover” tools being “pushed out.”

None of these “deals” are super great. A lot of the good tools are not on sale. I.e.
Makita XGT or mid torque impacts. Batteries are not great deals either. All of these manufacturers just want to un load low selling tools or over stock.
