Here are a couple of power tool deals to start the weekend off with.
Dewalt 18V Hammer Drill + Reciprocating Saw Combo for $200
In a comment to our $90 Dewalt cordless drill deal, Jonathan gave us a heads-up about a better deal that he found. For $200, you get a Dewalt 18V premium hammer drill, fully-featured reciprocating saw, and two extended run-time XRP NiCd batteries.

Don’t walk to the store, run! Or reserve one by ordering online with free shipping or free in-store pickup. A price comparison of the DCK251X combo via Amazon shows an average price of $320!

Makita LCT300W 18V Drill + Impact Driver Combo for $130
Amazon, via Northern Tool (check under “more buying options”), is offering this Makita 3-tool combo kit for $130 with free shipping. The kit included Makita’s compact drill/driver, compact impact driver, Xenon flashlight, and 2 Li-ion batteries plus a charger and carrying case. The average price is $230 and up.

UPDATE: The Makita deal appears to be OOS as the $130 listing has been taken down. It might be worth checking back in case it comes back, but as of now we consider that to be unlikely.

Dewalt 100-Piece Drilling & Screwdriver Bit Set for $20
Lowes is also offering a decent price on this 100pc drill and screwdriver bit set. It includes 17 drill bits, a RapidLoader hex bit holder and 2 magnetic bit holders, a large bit selection, and durable storage case. Even though the 100-piece count includes 30 #2 Phillips bits, this kit looks to be a great value.
This set was a $20 Black Friday special two years ago, and back in June it was a special-buy at $30.

I looked high and low on Amazon for the Makita impact-driver LCT300 combo that was listed here and it’s nowhere to be found. I looked under “more buying options” (although Amazon actually lists it as “more buying choices”-to be more accurate) and I searched the Northern Tool store on Amazon and it isn’t anywhere. Any advice for accessing it would be appreciated, but I think that the listing is incorrect.

For those wondering this is a contractor grade drill : it has a 3-speed all-metal Transmission with a 22 setting Heavy-duty 1/2″ metal ratcheting chuck with carbide inserts provides superior bit gripping strength. (It handles 5″ hole saw (plywood) and 1 1/2″ auger bits in railroad ties with ease. )
The Reciprocating Saw in this kit comes with an adjustable/extend-able shoe (see https://toolguyd.com/2011/10/dewalt-20v-combo-kit-saw-differences/ ) when I bought my 18V combo kit it did not come with an adjustable foot ( the little yellow dot on the front is how you can quickly tell). The Kit comes with two (2) 2.4 amp hour 18V XRP NiCads (DC9096) the shorty 18v NiCads are only 1.2 Amp Hours (DC 9099?).
If you want to pick it up for $10 less from Lowe’s then order it online for store pick-up or delivery and enter this promo code at check out: 470015983195877 it will take $10 off your combo. (FYI: I don’t work for Lowe’s or DeWalt – just giving back from some of the great deals I have received).

Sorry about that, Rex, the Makita deal looks to have been sold out. I updated the post to make the OOS notice more visible. It looks like Northern Tool pulled the listing either due to running out of stock or to correct errant pricing. The price on Northern Tool’s own website is $300.
Jonathan, that’s the first thing I noticed after reading your previous comment, that not only was the hammer drill their premium model, but that the reciprocating saw was their premium one as well.
Thanks also for sharing the coupon code! From the looks of it, it might be a one-time use coupon code, as Lowes coupons usually are. Still worth trying. Thanks again for the heads-up as well!

Stuart–You may have covered this a while back (I’m relatively new to the site), but I’ve been wondering about how comparable a “hammer drill/driver” is to an “impact driver”. The hammer drill/driver seems more versatile overall. The guys on DIY shows seem to use them for almost every task, especially driving 3-4″ drywall screws, as well as smaller lag bolts. They also typically have 1/2″ capacity. The impact driver seems more specialized, though most I’ve seen (in ads and your articles) seem to be limited to 1/4″ bits and drivers. What’s your take on them? Thanks.
Stuart
Steve, great question, thanks for asking! This topic is something I have been meaning to address as part of a larger project, but your question prompted me to hammer out a quick answer. Here is a link to the hammer drill vs. impact driver post.

I know that I am not Stuart, but I will toss my hat in the ring, this page gives a great break down http://home.howstuffworks.com/difference-between-hammer-drill-and-impact-driver.htm
This past summer I bought the 12v LiON Max Drill and Impact Combo – The Impact driver is a little over 2 pounds and has a great 3 led light. I used it this week on my cars suspension. Needless to say I was shocked at what it could remove with a 1/4 hex to 3/8″ + 1/2″ adapter – I never thought that it would loosen and remove so many of the bolts.
I use this little impact driver (DCF815S2) as my go to for most of projects around the house. I use it for drilling and driving screws to working on the vehicles). The Impact driver is great in that it will not chew up most Phillip head screws when driving them it doesn’t cam out like a drill will.
The Hammerdrill will drive lag bolts, I drove a 12″ lag bolt into a telephone pole like it was balsa wood. The Hammerdrill is a great all-around drill that will handle most projects you will ever run into as a DYI/Home owner.
The Impact driver also will drive that 12″ Lag bolt but it really shines at removing things, like rusted bolts, and breaking free bolts with Locktite or that are frozen or mated.
Tuesday I order the DeWalt DC820B 18V Impact driver from Home Depot – it is 1/2″ hog ring anvil for 1/2″ ratchets it is 145 ft-lbs of Torque this will cover 99% of the bolts that I will face on a vehicle. DeWalt also sell an 18V Impact that puts out 300 Ft-LBs of Torque but this is more for a Farm/Ranch or big rig shop. But it is twice as long as the DC820B which is really short only 5-3/4″ long –much shorter than most drills. It kinds of rounds out my tool box.

Anyone know how many FT LBS the Dewalt hammer drill puts out and which model it is (when bought as a single)?
Stuart
Thanks, Jonathan, for the additional input, it’s much appreciated!
Robert, the individual drill in that kit is model DCD950. Dewalt has their own system for rating drills and drivers, and specified this hammer drill at 450UWO (unit watts out).
robert
Thanks Stuart. I actually called Dewalt and was lucky enough to talk to the guy whose main job is cordless tools. He knew tons of info on these tools. He told me that the hammer drill is the 950K (as you said) and that the recip saw was the DC385K which is the premium saw. He said that the Lowes price was a smokin’ deal as they can’t even buy it for that.
What sold me on it was when he told me that any current model Dewalt cordless will accept either the NiCd or the Li-Ion batteries and that this kit comes with the Li-Ion battery charger, so it will charge either also.
I got off the phone and ordered it at my local store (had 2 in stock). Used a movers coupon for an additional $20 off for an OTD price of under $200.
Hell of a deal. Thanks for posting it.
Jonathan
Stuart, one could also price match and beat by 10% at Home Depot if a Lowe’s is not nearby or for the additional savings. Home Depot is selling these for $329 – this is not an online only special either. This would be even better than the Coupon Code.

That bit set looks like a good deal too. I’m resisting, as I probably have two or three of just about everything in it.
