Acme Tools put up new banner images that urge shoppers to beat the increase ahead of Makita price adjustments, which are said to go into effect on August 18, 2025.
Price adjustments and increases are not uncommon in the cordless power tool industry, and we have also seen a high volume of changes in response to recent tariffs policies.
Many tool brands regularly issue updated price lists to their retail partners.

In this case, Acme Tool has over 2100 Makita items in their catalog, and from their link over 800 items will soon see new pricing.
Price increases, whether in response to tariffs or other rising costs, tend to be inevitable.
We’ve seen increases by Dewalt – see Dewalt’s Parent Company is Raising Tool Prices, and You’ll Deal with it – and a reader shared with me a letter they say was sent from Milwaukee Tool to their retail partners. Festool dealers started advertising their latest changes too – Festool USA Announced Price Increases due to Tariffs.
If there was a Makita tool you were looking to buy, you have roughly 3 weeks before their select price adjustments go into effect. I’d keep an eye on promos until the last minute.
Also keep in mind that not every tool brand or retailer will be announcing price increases, they might just do it.
I was meaning to buy some parts from a company but wasn’t in a rush, and then the price rose overnight.

I would rather not see price increases, but if there’s something I’m looking to buy, a heads-up about upcoming changes is helpful.
Tool brands rarely increases prices at just one retailer, and so we can assume these changes will happen everywhere. We’ve seen similar from Makita and other brands such as Dewalt, and so there’s no reason to expect a break from pricing norms.

Takes a while to sell what is in transit and in the warehouse. The cost of tariffs is now starting to hit retail prices. Seems some manufacturers and retailers are absorbing some of the cost; but, price increases had to happen.
Buy now or pay more later.

I just love to see amateur (hour) Econ 101 in action. Though my long ago profs must be appalled.
Dave
Economics you clearly don’t understand maybe retake the course.

I guess that’s motivation for me to finally pick up some more batteries.

As if Makita’s stuff isn’t already getting prohibitively expensive…

For what it’s worth – Makita is offering rebates on some of its XGT OPE:

I purchased an XGT lawnmower with 2x 8Ah batteries last year and am very pleased with it -the rebate back then was not for cash back – instead I got an XGT leaf blower. This year’s rebates are along the same line (i.e. buy this and send in to get that.)
I should say that my use case for the XGT lawnmower is a bit different than most. I have a landscaper mow all the larger lawns – then we use the cordless mower on what my wife calls “garden rooms” distributed around the property.

Early on I got some Makita tools for woodworking because of the size, etc. They were more deft and not so chunky at the time. I also got the early Makita track saw. These are great tools for those purposes and I loved them. The new Makita tracksaw is better in many ways, but the one I have is all I need. That Makita saw even came with a great blade. I don’t see myself needed any more, though. I will take an inventory of my batteries and see if I need to buy any.
However, I’ve increasingly gone to Ryobi as a more practical option that includes yard tools, etc. They are so inexpensive when you get kits. I love their nail guns. Their drills are not so huge anymore. I have lots of their small accessories that came with kits and use most of them.

We bought corded Makita instead of Mafell for our foray into timber framing work. They were probably not as good – but then again, the timber framing work did not develop into a long-term venture. I’m guessing that my old compatriots still have the Makita chain mortiser, round bottom belt sander, big power planes (6.25 and 12.25 inch) and 16-5/16inch beam saw.
Makita is now selling a cordless version of the beam saw:

That beam saw looks amazing.
I bought the Makita 5008 MGA circular saw about 13 years ago. Light and with a great depth of cut. The oem blade was great, too.
Still selling today. on amazon and acme.

The heft of the saw and 415mm blade make it a tool that is best used by the noy faint of heart. Our guys built a bench to support its weight and help with the cut.
I can see the cordless version appealing to landscapers.
Mafell’s corded (240Volt) saw is actually a bit bigger (450mm blade) – with an even heftier price:

“Beat the price increase” is kind of the opposite of a sale.

Makita price increase was in July, most companies don’t raise prices until stock is sold or competots raise so I don’t understand how a company can put a date on the increase I know our company won’t raise the price until we sell off our stock but we always buy for the next dews months when advised of a price increase to keep the every day low price
Stuart
I typically see increases go into effect across the board at every retailer on the same day.
Jason
That banner is long gone already and I can’t dig up any indication which tools will be going up.
