Here’s a look at the Makita Black Friday 2023 tool deals we’ve come across so far.
You can find these tools at Home Depot’s holiday deals center in stores and online, and at independent dealers as well.
There are fewer deals this year, but there’s the potential for new additions later in the season.

The prices are accurate at the time of this posting, and hopefully further discounts are on the way.

Makita 18V 6Ah battery 2-pack – $199
I do NOT recommend this deal.
Based on my experiences across the industry, I expect for Makita’s 18V 5Ah battery to have higher performance Li-ion cells than their 6Ah battery.
I would choose Makita’s 5Ah battery over this 6Ah battery 100% of the time, and would recommend the same to others.

Buy a Makita 18V Starter Kit, Get a FREE Tool or Battery – $199 at Home Depot
With this deal, you can get a starter kit with charger and 2x 5Ah batteries, and opt for a free bonus 5Ah battery or cordless power tool.
The free bonus tool options have brushed or brushless motors.
Which do you think is the better deal?
$199 for 3x 5Ah batteries for 15Ah total charge capacity (plus a charger and tool bag)?
$199 for 2x 6Ah batteries for 12Ah total charge capacity?
This adds to why I don’t recommend Makita’s 6Ah battery 2-pack deal.

Buy a Makita 18V Combo Kit for $399, Get 2 FREE Tools – $399 at Home Depot
Last year’s deal was for a similar combo kit but with 4Ah batteries, and it was bundled with a free bonus battery and 1 choice of free tool, for $339.
I had really hoped Makita would offer an XGT promo this year, where you could get a free tool with a cordless kit or combo kit buy-in, but that didn’t happen.

Buy a Makita XGT Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit + 1 FREE Battery – $469 at Home Depot
The tools weren’t on display at my local Home Depot store yet, but the deal is live online.
Last year’s deal featured a lower price and came with (2) free bonus batteries.
Buy a Makita XGT Chainsaw Combo Kit + 1 FREE Battery – $599 at Home Depot
Buy a Makita XGT Blower Combo Kit + 1 FREE Battery – $399 at Home Depot

Makita 18V X2 Cordless Rear-Handle Circular Saw + 2 Batteries – $299 at Home Depot
This had been a very regular deal, and it’s usually a pretty good value.

The same deal was $259 last year.

I found this display at my store last year. Hopefully they sell through this year’s inventory, despite the higher price.
Maybe if we wait the price will be discounted from $299, but I doubt it.

Makita 18V Oscillating Multi-Tool – $249 at Home Depot
Makita 18V Sub-Compact Circular Saw – $189 at Home Depot
Makita 18V Sub-Compact Cordless Drill & Impact Kit – $169 at Home Depot
The OMT is labeled as a “special buy” online, and I’m thinking it will be discounted further for Black Friday.

Last year, the OMT was $199, and the circular saw was $139.
Makita 18V 2Ah Battery – $99 at Home Depot
Home Depot has a 2-pack of Milwaukee M18 High Output 3Ah batteries for $99. They have a similar deal for Dewalt, and also a $99 deal on the Dewalt 20V Max compact PowerStack battery.

Makita 18V 8-Tool Cordless Power Tool Combo Kit – $399 at Home Depot

Makita 18V Cordless Stick Vacuum Kit – $129 at Home Depot
Will there be Better Tool Deals for Black Friday?
I sure hope so.
Last year, Makita’s XGT cordless circular saw kit was $429 at Home Depot and other retailers, and you also got (2) free batteries. Right now, it’s $449 with ZERO free batteries.
There also don’t look to be any air tool or air compressor deals this year.
Rog
“Maybe if we wait the price will be discounted from $299, but I doubt it.”
Knowing Makita’s track record they’ll raise the price again before then.
Mike
Thanks. I talked myself out of that rear-handle saw deal last year: I didn’t NEED the batteries or saw (DIYer) just wanted them.
Do you think there’s a chance it gets back down to $259 range again, even if not for Black Friday?
Leo B.
Maybe two more batteries at the same price will tip the scale-
https://fastenersinc.net/pages/makita-tools-deals
Stuart
That’s exactly the same as the deal discussed above.
Last year: $259 for the kit + 2 additional batteries.
2023: $299 for the kit + 2 additional batteries.
Leo B.
You’re right, I didn’t look closely enough at the Home Depot deal. Thanks!
Stuart
Frankly, I don’t think so.
There’s more potential for some of the other deals to be discounted further, but it’s hard to say.
You can wait and keep an eye out for deals from other brands in the meantime, or maybe a discount on the XGT kit.

While I agree the 6Ah is rarely as good of a value, I find the performance on par with the 5ah. Sure, it doesn’t really provide a peak power boost, but it definitely isn’t worse. I find it spends significantly longer at the top of its voltage curve, which is a noticeable improvement when using a continuous high-draw tool like a blower or vacuum.
The 5Ah is always the best value recommendation, but if you can find the 6Ah for a decent price I think it’s still an upgrade.
Stuart
2x 6Ah batteries for $199 vs 3x 5Ah batteries for $199 (plus a charger and tool bag).
The 3x5Ah battery offer (2 + 1 free) is a better value.
I have yet to know of any brand’s 10x 18650 6Ah battery that might an be considered an upgrade compared to their 5Ah batteries, with respect to performance.
Generally, the only potential advantage is when a user wants extended runtime in low-demand applications, such as powering a jobsite radio.
Even the best 18650 3Ah Li-ion battery cells suited for power tool use have been far behind the power and cooling capacity of similarly classified 18650 2.5Ah Li-ion battery cells.
Generally, performance in a 10x 18650 battery pack practically falls off a cliff between 2.5Ah and 3.0Ah. That’s in theory, but I don’t like having to micro-manage my batteries. I designate compact batteries for light duty tasks, medium-sized batteries for medium duty tasks, and larger batteries for heavier duty tasks.
If a particular medium-sized battery doesn’t match up with the performance of comparably-sized batteries in my kit, I have no need for it.
3x Makita 5Ah batteries for $199 gives what I consider a better product at a better value than 2x Makita 6Ah batteries for $199.
Not that I would invest a penny in Makita’s 18V cordless power tool system these days.
Harrison
I totally understand what you’re saying, and I went into buying a few 6.0s with the same expectations, but my experience with them has been overwhelmingly positive.
Even if they make less peak power, they still make more power for longer, and I have yet to find an LXT tool our business owns that hasn’t benefit from that.
For high demand tools I’m going XGT or other battery systems, but LXT still has a lot of quality ‘medium demand’ tools that aren’t really pushing power limits.
I recently purchased the Made-in-USA 14gauge metal shear, probably the nicest and highest capacity cordless shear on the market. I expect to own that tool my entire career, and a battery that will run it all day up on a roof is a win.
The 6.0 can completely eliminate battery swaps through the work day on plenty of LXT tools, with no weight penalty. That may not sound like much for someone focused on Instagram speed trials, but for us it is a nice workflow upgrade.
Robert
Stuart, what I am most impressed by is your ability to manage old but relevant photos. At one time I thought I wanted a powerful circle saw like the Makita 18v x 2, or the Dewalt worm drive. But found I don’t use my circle saw that much now that I have a track saw.
Stuart
Thanks!
Did you see this post? https://toolguyd.com/tools-at-home-depot-lowes-sears-2009-2012/
I got in the habit of taking snapshots for at-home and future reference long ago.
Robert
Stuart, nope. Do you use Lightroom or a competing program to manage your photo work flow?
What I enjoyed the most about that old post was the US Airways Flight 1549 photo. To me Sullenberger and Skiles are low keyed unsung heroes. At that altitude and speed with an engine bird strike, everyone on that plane was dead already, just a matter of a few seconds for it to play out. But Sullenberger and Skiles had done their boring but professional preparation and somehow in God’s name got that plane down safely.
Stuart
Yes for processing camera photos, no for processing smartphone snapshots.
I *should* one day, but I generally know exactly what I’m looking for and browse by chronological order.
Jim
I have an analog version of this:
When my wife and I got our first place some 20y ago, we wrapped our first batch of Christmas tree ornaments in whatever newspaper (remember those?) we had around.
Year after year we’d reuse most of that paper, and 20y later it’s become a fun part of decorating to relive the Best Buy and CompUSA ads circa 2002 or so!

I’m actually looking to buy another battery or two and was wondering if the $199 for two batteries plus a free tool is a good deal or not. Consensus seems to be no since they are 6.0Ah batteries. What’s the back story on the 6.0Ah batteries?
For reference I checked my amazon history and I bought two 5.0Ah batteries for $132 back in 2021 and today they are going for $158 for two. The 6.0Ah batteries are going for $199.
Stuart
The deal with a 2-battery starter kit + free tool has 5Ah batteries.
Are you looking at authorized dealer pricing? The Makita 18V 5Ah battery 2-pack is $279 right now.
Amazon has it for $158, but via 3rd party listings. Shipped and sold by Amazon, it’s $249 right now. https://www.amazon.com/Makita-BL1850B-2-Lithium-Ion-5-0Ah-Battery/dp/B015PVD9ME/?tag=toolguyd-20

I think the combo impact and drill kit with 2 tools or tool and battery is a pretty good deal still tbh.
I know we compare things to last year, but inflation has absolutely skyrocketed and Ive upped my day rate by $50 in the past year alone to keep up.
Considering I could get that offer for a little over a days wage for me, id consider it if I didn’t already have that combo kit and most of those tools already. The ratchet is the only tools I don’t have.
If the Combo kit features the XPH16 I may consider getting it anyways.
Stuart
It’s not a bad deal, although I don’t find the free tool selection compelling, and there are also fewer choices than in previous years.
I expected a deal on the XPH16 combo kit, given the slow/cheaper charger it’s kitted with, but haven’t seen any promos on it yet. Home Depot doesn’t even have a product page for the XT296ST combo kit.
It’s available at Amazon and elsewhere right now, but not discounted anywhere I’ve seen. https://www.amazon.com/Makita-XT296ST-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-Cordless/dp/B0CB9N8L7B/?tag=toolguyd-20
The promo kit comes with the XPH14, which launched a few years ago.
A few months ago they had the XGT 2-tool combo with 1 free battery for $349. For Holiday 2022 they had the same combo for $449 with 2 free batteries. Those were great deals, and I was hoping for a repeat this year.

I’m a Makita fan and am pretty deep into that platform but I could use some batteries. Some of my old 5.0s aren’t doing great. Pretty sure I paid $199 last year for the rear handle circular saw and got 4 5.0s for that price. Not super impressed with these specials
Peanut
I have the overpriced Makita oscillating tool, and I don’t like it. Too heavy, and the weight doesn’t transfer to more power or ability. It drains batteries faster than a Viking can drain ram horn.. Metabo is my new go to.
Michael F
The battery deals seem decent but everything else is pretty lackluster. Heck, the XGT blower was discounted to $308 at my local HD just a few weeks ago. Acme had it at that price with the free battery! I should have grabbed it while it lasted.
fred
I bought one earlier this year via Amazon.jp
https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Rechargeable-AS180DZ-Battery-Separately-Accessories/dp/B0BT4DP2RV
The price they show is about $152 for the bare tool

Makita promos for November-January updated today – https://www.makitatools.com/promos
Only notable stuff is a free 2Ah with a vacuum kit, and more XGT kits coming with a single 4Ah battery (A couple SDS drills, Demo hammer, Impact Wrench, and some other very expensive concrete tools). A few other small accessories are on promo too.
Disappointing. Hacked the blower kit at HD to get a 4Ah XGT battery for $145, which is still pricey but beats retail. Previously picked up the $199 kit with 2 5Ah and the brushless jigsaw, which I’m super happy with.
Nice tools, increasingly underwhelming pricing.
Stuart
With the impact wrench, you have to buy THREE of the same model to get the 1 free battery.
It’s $549, so you have to spend $1647 at participating dealers to get 1 free 4Ah battery.
Not a lot of dealers look to be participating either. Home Depot isn’t, and the same is true for some of the independent dealers I checked.
Scott M
Wow – that’s even more baffling. Free $229 battery on a $549 kit is already pretty mediocre when they have the same deal applying for 1x of the $400-$500 kits.
Mark T
As a tool consumer, I too have screenshots from BFS’s in 2022 & 2021. Prices predictably were way better then! I refuse to buy anything today that is not a necessity in (how many 12 & 18v batteries does a guy need). Unless you’ve never owned a drill/driver set, today’s prices suck, sorry.
Jake
You can get the 2 pack of 6ah off Amazon for 170, any time of year
