Makita has launched a pre-Black Friday 2016 deal on this new XT505 5-piece cordless combo kit. It’s available at Amazon, Acme Tools, Home Depot, and elsewhere, for $299.

This kit is new to the market, and we’re guessing it was specially put together for the 2016 holiday shopping season. So don’t let Makita’s “get $80 instantly!!” message confuse you; this set was likely designed around a $299 target price.

So, what do you get for your money?

  • Hammer Drill, XPH10Z
  • Impact Driver, XDT11Z
  • Reciprocating Saw, XRJ04Z
  • Circular Saw, XSS02Z (6-1/2)
  • Xenon Flashlight, DML185
  • (2) 3.0Ah Batteries w/ Fuel Gauge, BL1830B
  • Charger, DC18RC
  • Tool Bag

The hammer drill and impact driver seem to be Makita’s new budget offerings, and the circular saw seems to be their usual model. The reciprocating saw looks to be all-new, and spec-wise it’s comparable to Makita’s other brushed model, XRJ03Z, except it seems to lack the tool-free shoe adjustment.

As for the Xenon flashlight, maybe it’ll come in handy in a pinch, but heavy users will want to upgrade to LED.

This set looks to give DIYers and pros everything they need to tackle lots of different tasks and projects, and is a nice starting point for entry into Makita’s 18V system.

I think it’s a great deal, but just keep in mind that it’s designed around the $299 price point. Maybe it’s not, and $379 is indeed its target price point, but the timing of this new introduction suggests that it’s a holiday season special.

Still, you get all the core tools you might need, and Makita even supplies the kit with the newer 3.0Ah battery packs with built-in fuel gauges.

The special pricing is said to expire 11/23/2016, and is only valid while supplies last.

All 3 retailers, and I’m guessing some others participating in this promo, offer free shipping. If you order from Acme, their Makita $25 off $100+ promo is currently stacking on top of the $299 sale price, resulting in final price of $274! (At least for the time being.)

To consider whether this is a good deal or not, look what you get with Milwaukee’s Holiday 2016 promo.

Or you can look at Home Depot’s Holiday 2016 cordless promo event, where you start off with a brushed or brushless drill and impact driver kit and add in a bonus tool for free. That gives you a drill and impact driver, and a circular saw OR reciprocating saw, for $299.

Amazon is offering the same promo on Dewalt 20V Max tools.

Makita has posted and email stating that for pre-black friday, the xt505 carries an instant rebate of $80 at select merchants. Does the $299 price reflect this?

Looks like a solid deal! That impact is very nice to use. It is a definite upgrade to last years model. I haven’t tried the recip yet but is should be fairly good. As you said the other tools are the same as before.

That circ saw alone as a bare tool is 249€ in Finland, so that kit is ridiculously cheap!! That kit might cost here something like 790€ to 990€. I really envy your tool prices.
