Metabo has announced that they will be coming out with new higher capacity 5.2Ah 18V Li-ion battery packs, and no, that isn’t a typo.
At a time when most power tool brands are still upgrading their 18V high capacity battery packs from 3.0Ah to 4.0Ah, Metabo wants to go just a little further.

So you don’t have to do the math yourself: 5.2Ah is 73.3% more that 3.0Ah, and 30% more than 4.0Ah.
The new Ultra-M battery pack will be compatible with all of Metabo’s 18V tools. I probably wouldn’t want to use such a large battery with a compact cordless drill, but with a circular saw, reciprocating saw, or rotary hammer? Sure, since it would mean a lot fewer trips to the charger.
There’s no mention of charging times, but I would be surprised if it’s under an hour. Almost definitely not less than 45 minutes.

Still waiting for Dewalt and Makita to come out with their 4.0’s, as well as Milwaukee’s 4.0 12 volts. I can definitely see the need for the 5.2ah.
