Metabo HPT SubCompact Cordless Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit KC18DDXM

Over at Lowe’s, they have a new Metabo HPT cordless power tool combo kit as part of their Father’s Day 2021 promotions.

Buy this 18V SubCompact drill and impact driver combo kit for $179 (model KC18DDXM), get a FREE brushless jig saw or reciprocating saw.

The deal is live now online and in stores. On the product page, you’ll see the “free gift selection” on the page right below the price, where you can select your bonus tool.

I’m a big fan of Metabo HPT’s cordless offerings, and this seems to be an excellent deal.

Note: Metabo HPT and Lowe’s are both ToolGuyd sponsors.

I have been comparing all of the various Father’s Day 2021 cordless drill promos, and have concluded that the Metabo HPT drill/driver $79 kit is the best value of the season. Lowe’s DeWalt Xtreme 12V Max $99 special buy was also a top contender, but I like the HPT’s lower pricing and that it has a 1/2″ chuck.

Metabo HPT’s 18V brushless impact driver kit is also on sale for $79.

$179 is a fair price on the drill and impact driver combo kit, especially considering that the drill and impact driver kits typically sell for $129 and $139 respectively, and this free bonus tool promo makes it a hot buy.

Metabo HPT Compact Brushless Jig Saw CJ18DAQ4M

The Metabo HPT brushless jig saw is compact and lightweight. It features 4 cutting modes, a variable speed trigger, dust blower, and tool-less blade change mechanism.

Metabo HPT CR18DAQ4 Compact Reciprocating Saw Bare Tool

The other option is Metabo HPT’s compact brushless reciprocating saw, which specializes in being compact, lightweight, and versatile.

What makes this a very compelling choice, in my opinion, is that it can be used with reciprocating saw blades and also t-shank jigsaw blades.

The jig saw retails for $99 as a bare tool, and the reciprocating saw for $129.

I was planning on buying the Metabo HPT drill kit for a relative, but I might upgrade them to this combo kit. An impact driver is a great drill/driver complement, and the addition of a bonus jig saw or compact reciprocating saw makes this a great 3pc combo kit deal.

Metabo HPT continues to impress with their releases. I previously commented on the Sawzall supporting t-shank jigsaw blades and how innovative I felt this was.
Additionally, their hybrid options, especially in their straight forward marketing on their battery platform design – which is discussed here:

    https://toolguyd.com/metabo-hpt-multivolt-2021-update-swag-giveaway/

I feel similarly about these new subcompact offerings. Briefly checking Makita’s subcompact drill/driver and impact- the size, weight and spec’s are either the same as or very close.

More and more I have become frustrated with the Makita platform. Accessories and availability has been something I’ve talked about a lot; but the tipping point is really the launch of the XGT line. Metabo HPT in my opinion found the right balance to address increased power demands – a model Makita had inklings towards being first to market on with the x2 lineup and their battery backpack. Then they shifted to a whole new platform, built on the same battery cells as the LXT platform. Additionally many of the new innovative features are only being released on the XGT platform. For example, a Rotary Hammer with an interchangeable chuck. Their responses haven’t satisfied me on their decisions here and saying they aren’t going to stop innovating on the LXT platform, in face of just one example above, leaves me to not give them the benefit of the doubt.

I haven’t had hands on time with Metabo HPT- but if I were starting fresh or a first time tool purchaser, I would strongly dive deeper into and consider Metabo HPT.

I’ve had hands on time with cordless HiTabo Hitachi Power Tools. The cordless nailers are about the same as the new Milwaukee. Not industrial grade, but totally dependable, nonetheless. The remaining cordless line is a step below Dewalt, Milwaukee and Makita. HiKoki and Makita have a copycat rivalry in Japan and so the comparison is warranted. However, HiKoki is nowhere close (coincidentally the exception is where Makita nailers are infamously butt batter) in all of the important areas. Take apart an XGT impact driver and the competing 36v triple hammer. It’s there before your eyes. It isn’t junk, but it certainly isn’t worth listing over.

Are these tools truly brushless? Usually their tools have it written on them somewhere. Regardless, I’d opt for the reciprocating saw. I think it’d be more versatile what with it being able to use jigsaw blades, too.

I’m going back and forth on whether to purchase the subcompact impact and drill separately, or to go with the kit and free tool. I love hard cases, but this looks to be the better value. Can’t go wrong either way!

      Yes.

Lowe’s describes the jig saw as brushless, and I have explicit confirmation from Metabo HPT that the reciprocating saw is brushless.

With brushless tools being so ubiquitous these days, they might have felt it unnecessary to make the callout.

It’s a tough call. Drill + Impact kits will be $158 combined. This combo deal is $179.

Would you rather than 2 extra batteries, an extra charger, and $21 in your wallet, or a compact brushless recip saw or jig saw?

For just a drill or just an impact, I’d go with the standalone $79 kits. For both the drill and impact, this combo is the better buy.

Or, if you just want the drill or impact and one of these saws, this combo bundle is also the better deal there you save compared to buying a $79 kit and either of the saws as bare tools.

Just bought the kit and the recip saw! Couldn’t pass it up for the last day of the Father’s Day deal. 🙂 Looking forward to seeing how it compares to the Makita subcompact. Really liking the roll that Metabo HPT has been on of late. IMHO they have the potential to gain further momentum with their MultiVolt and how it compares far more favorably vs. Makita’s XGT with it not being backwards-compatible.

Metabo-HPT is getting interesting….not buying much this summer, but that reciprocating saw sure is tempting. If they have deals like this one and the triple hammer deal this fall, I’ll probably give in to temptation.
