While I tend to prefer the ergonomics of Milwaukee’s M18 cordless power tools, this M12 kit has served me well, and has been pretty comfortable to use these past few months. The tools perform well, and the kit is a great value with the discount and bonus battery.
Here’s my mini hands-on review from 2 months ago.

Same price as 1 new 12Ah battery!
It sounds like a good deal.

Last week i was looking around my local home depot for their m12 fuel brushless impact with a packout case for $99. I knew it was only stocked for christmas but i was hoping to find one as i needed a second impact for a job.
BUT….. i couldn’t find one and i’m glad i didn’t! This is a smoking deal!
Matthew
This looks like a great deal. I purchased this kit with free 2 ah battery from Home Depot about a month ago. The tools themselves were very capable (I’d say they felt just as powerful as my old 18V DeWalt hammer drill and impact driver). I’d say this kit pushes the limits of what I’d expect a 12V class tool to handle.
I just couldn’t get comfortable with the way the handles bumped out for the battery. If it wasn’t for that annoyance (not really uncomfortable, just didn’t fit in my hand the way I would like) I would still have them. I ended up swapping for the brushless Makita 12V hammer drill and impact which were more comfortable to me.
If your already in the Milwaukee platform or you like how these drill feel this is a can’t miss deal in my opinion.

In the halcyon of yore (my tongue way out in my cheek) when we paid MSRP and shopped at bricks and mortar stores with limited selection – at least we could try out how tools (then corded only) fit in our hands. What fit my big mitts would have never worked for some others. In that vein, I kind of like the bulky feel of the M12 tool handles – but I know that others much prefer the narrower handles on the Bosch or Makita 12V tools.
Matthew
That was the odd part about me not liking the feel of these. I’m 6’6″ and 300 lbs, so the larger handle should have felt fine. It’s the way the handle under the motors is narrow and then immediately juts out for that battery that soured me on it.
But again, the tools worked really well on the few repair projects I used them before exchanging. I’ll not deny that they are very capable tools.

I just got this same deal on Thursday from HOME Depot it arrived Saturday super happy with it

Looks like a great deal. I jumped on a Home Depot deal about 6 weeks ago – the M12 impact driver kit plus an extra 2.0 Ah battery for $169.
By the way, the M12 impact driver is fantastic. Even with the small 2.0 Ah battery, it sinks screws very nicely. My only complaints are: 1) the battery could fit a little tighter. There is some play when inserted into the tool. 2) it’s too easy to “click through” neutral/off when pushing the reverse/forward switch. The switch could use to be tighter with more positive engagement.

With the new Milwaukee 12v Tripp’s lights coming soon, this is really tempting! I don’t like the handles on the Milwaukee 12v s as much as my subcompact makitas, but some of the other options for this Deal look tempting: the hackzall, the metal bandsaw and a couple of others!
Whiskey and Wood
That was supposed to say *tripod lights!
Joe
is that combo gen 1
Adam
he said “latest” in the write-up, which is Gen 2. Easiest to tell by looking at how stubby the impact drive is
Stuart
Gen 2!

I hope you guys in the US realize how lucky you are. The deal closest to this in Europe I could find is this one: https://www.toolnation.nl/milwaukee-m12-bpp2b-421c-powerpack-m12bpd-klopboormachine-m12bid-slagschroevendraaier-12v-4-0-2-0ah-dealer-garantie.html which is 300$ instead of 200$, a smaller battery and the old versions of the tools to finish it all up.
Adam
Those are technically current versions, but they are the entry level. They are not Fuel (brushless) versions like this kit & what kit it replaces has.
Ives
You’re right, that’s even worse.
Matt
In this vein, why have yet to see a 12v Brushless Makita combo? I know Bosch has a brushed 12v combo and so does Makita why the lack of a brush less combo kit from Makita?
Stuart
They do have those brushless subcompacts.
e.g. https://toolguyd.com/makita-18v-sub-compact-brushless-cordless-drill-xfd11/
D
Makita has brushless 12V combos in Australia.
Matt
I mean true 12v. I prefer the Makita 12v impact to it’s subcompact counterpart.
D
I’m not sure what you mean by true 12V.
There’s the old pod style battery Makita 10.8V (12V) line which is pretty much abandoned. Then there’s the new slide style battery Makita 12V Max CXT range, which does have brushless combos.
Perhaps they’re not available in your country yet.

Stuart mentioned the subcompacts. I’m interested in 12v Brushless Makita combos. Hammer Drill and impact with speed control that I cannot locate in the states
Matthew
This is what I ended up exchanging this kit for. I ended up getting a discount that brought the price in line with the Milwaukee kit. These are only available online at HD though.

Stuart, do you know how the dB rating on this compares to the M18 Surge which you indicated was 76 dB. I need to pick up another impact stat, and want to get something small and quiet.
Thanks!
Stuart
Not off hand, but Surge is far quieter than most impacts.

I hear you all about the handles. I’ve always been a DeWalt 20v Guy and love their feel and handles more than anything. That being said- I just purchased this kit because I couldn’t resist the deal. The tools are remarkably different with the 2.0 batteries and I actually only use them with these tools. I use the 6.0 and 4.0 with the vacuum and fuel hackzall I just bought as well. Those are fantastic tools I use all the time and I think I’ll feel that way about this kit as well when I finally get used to the feel of the thicker handles on the drill and impact. The Milwaukee 12v tools do feel like very quality built tools overall.

Is there an issue with the M12 Gen2 Drill? When I put the torque on 1-3 and press on the trigger, it will spin and then stop within a few seconds. I’m on my second milwaukee drill and it is having the same issue.
Here is a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BDTG_h-ZVg
Stuart
Does it do that when there’s a bit in the chuck? I’ll see if I can replicate what you’re seeing, but it seems to me that the momentum of the unlocked chuck is triggering the clutch.
Update: I cannot replicate it. Do you hear a very quiet pulsing sound as soon as the motor stops?
Wallace Roberson
I’ve got a few Milwaukee impact tools. really do like thim .
