Several readers wrote in recently, talking about a recent deal on this Milwaukee M12 Fuel XC cordless hammer drill and impact driver combo kit.
This combo kit, model 2598-22, is a great buy at $179 right now.

A reader (thank you Zack!) included a great question with his deal tip submission:
I was at Home Depot today and noticed that the M12 Fuel combo set (2598-22) is selling for a much lower price than last month. Last month, I couldn’t find it anywhere for less than $220, but Home Depot and several other retailers now all show it discounted to $179.
Drill-Driver + Impact Driver sets are very practical, and the bundled battery packs (one each of two different sizes), charger, and tote bag make this an excellent starter kit for the M12 system. I recently picked up the M12 jigsaw through another Home Depot promotion, and I had been looking to fill out the set — that’s why I was hunting for deals on this particular combo SKU.
I haven’t seen any indication that this is part of a special promotion. It’s possible that this is just the “new normal” for this tool (introduced around January 2018), or maybe this suggests that an update is on the horizon.
In any case, it’s a good time to buy this set for anyone who was holding out for a better price, as I was.

Historically, this Milwaukee M12 Fuel hammer drill and impact driver kit has regularly sold for $229. This combo kit has been discounted for Black Friday and the winter holiday shipping season before, to either $199 or $179.
Last year, there was also a free bonus battery offer, but I don’t see such a deal returning for this year.
This year’s promo price is again $179, and based on sales materials I have seen so far, I don’t think we’ll see anything better. If you’re worried there will be a better deal or bundle, it’s a good idea to order from a retailer that has a good return policy.
I also agree that this is a fantastic way to enter Milwaukee’s M12 cordless power tool system. It comes with the two tools, a 2Ah battery, a 4Ah XC battery, charger, and tool bag.

Bought at full price a few years back, very satisfied. I think we’ve seen this kit get something like $30 lower if you get a free ratchet and return it (obvious pricing blunder combined with minor shenanigans)
This pairing does something like 95% of what I ever need from a drill and impact including 1/2″ holes for concrete anchors and frequent 4 1/2″ lags.
I bought a bigger hammer drill but never bother with it. If the M12 doesn’t seem like a good fit I’m usually bumping up to a rotary hammer.

I must have just got in on an overlapping promo, as I had been watching that kit on CPO and Home Depot, as it also included your choice of the 3/8″ ratchet, a 6.0 battery, or the multi-tool. As I already had the two tools, I opted for the free battery. Once I saw it was $50 off when I was already tempted, I jumped on it. Home Depot had the overlap for less than a day. CPO at least a few days, but I just checked and no longer.

I don’t think they knew they were doing that. The bonus freebie ended yesterday. These promotions are usually never allows to overlap at all.
This year, Home Depot launched their holiday pricing earlier, and a lot of retailers have been trying to match promo pricing.

Finally caved in and bought this today. Been wanting to buy into the Milwaukee line for years. My Bosch 18v and 12v drills are 12 to 15 years old and still as good as new however I lost my 12v drill so I was lacking in the 12 dept. The 12v hammer drill with the 4.0 battery is bigger than my Bosch 18v lithium ion drills and much heavier. Very beefy. I didn’t really NEED a hammer drill but I have one now in case I ever need one. I never questioned the quality just been waiting for good enough deals to jump on. I really wanted the ratchet too but it seems like I missed that deal.
Also started buying into the packout line to better organize all my misc nuts and bolts and stuff laying around. I had bought a really nice Ridgid small parts organizer but it seems thats the only one they make. I wanted different sizes like the thinner ones Milwaukee has.
