I just received an email asking if I saw any specials on the increasingly popular Milwaukee M12 FUEL brushless multi-head installation drill/driver.
YES!

There’s one deal, part of Home Depot’s Black Friday deals of the day, where you get the installation driver kit and a bare tool ratchet for $229. That’s an okay deal.
Here’s the BIG DEAL: As mentioned, we have an exclusive DOORBUSTER coupon arrangement with Ohio Power Tools. They have the M12 installation drill/driver kit for $179 as a special buy, as do some other Milwaukee tool dealers right now. BUT use coupon code GIFTGUYD to save an extra $20 off $100+ their gift center items, dropping the price to $159.
This item is also eligible for free shipping.
GIFTGUYD coupon will end at 6pm ET 11/27/2020 or after 100 uses, whichever comes first.

Would love to hear Stuart’s or other users experience with this vs the Bosch Flixiclick. I have the brushed version of the Flixiclick, and like it for what it does. I’m also invested in the M12 platform, so I’ve been eyeing the Installation driver for some time.

The one thing I’m not a fan of with this driver is that the forward and reverse modes are button controlled instead of via toggle switch.

I have both the brushed Flexiclick and the M12 installation driver. I have review videos on YT for both as well. Both are great tools, but I prefer the Bosch myself.
The Milwaukee has better ergonomics, but the Bosch attachment design is much smoother when you want to hit a certain angle with the offset or right angle adapters. The 1/4″ bit holder design on the Milwaukee is much better for one handed operation with just inserting the bit, and then pulling the collar to release. The Bosch requires pushing the collar for both bit insertion and release. Bosch wins for direction lever design. Milwaukee wins on torque.

I have this and the festool equivalent and I’ll handily admit the festool is better. The m12 isn’t bad by any means but the festool feels more powerful, balanced, and better shaped.
I use my surge for almost everything now, and only reach for this or the festool if I really need the right angle or offset action.

Interesting comment on the power considering the Festool is less than half the max torque of the Milwaukee. I used to own the Festool CXS and felt it was smooth and refined but underpowered to most anything.

Yeah I think it has to do with how well I can control the festool – I can leave it on high and feather the trigger to not strip out but still have power when needed.
The M12 installation I have to set it Lower as I don’t seem to have the same control. It might just be me.
I will agree that the lack of the side button to change direction is annoying; I can go from fastening to loosening on the surge with one hand and without disengaging the tool.

I’ve both Bosch and the M12 tools.
To me the handles on the 10.8V-12V Bosch Tools have simply because awkward feeling after all these years and I’m more liking the Installation tool and the M12 & M18 Surge tools better.
Power wise the installation tool might seem stronger (without ever reading the specs) simply because the handle and physical control is so different.
All having never used the prototype aka Festool. Nor feeling the urge.

Thanks for the heads up. Ordered both the M12 Installation Driver and 50 socket set (applying a single $20 discount and used affiliate link). Thanks for everything you do for the community (using affiliate links is our way of paying you back). This is my first M12 tool, hoping I like it just enough to use it but no so much that I end up with a collection of M12.

Almost pulled the trigger on this the other day, but I’m consolidating tools from 4 locations to just 1 and it’s kind of embarrassing how many variations of drill and driver I have… Far more drills than I have friends to loan them to, and I’m not working on job sites right now so it would just be another thing to organize. I’ll feel really dumb about this decision six months from now when I end up buying it at full price!

I had one of these and it worked great for small stuff, they designed it for that and far as M12 its power impressive. I have drilled a 3/4 knock-out using the 45 attachment and it had no problem, no overload causing it to stop and it was an old steel box.
But when you reaching into an area yiu cant get your head into and need to reverse the drill, the electronic button is a pain 😫 So on Ebay it went
I’ve had Festools and the electronic chuck passed be off so much I sold those too, not the CXS the rpm was too low for me. Had the C12 and the big 18 volt 4 speed hammer drill.
I am a tool whore and have owned probably 40 drills, impacts through the years from the first Makita 9.6v (yes I’m that old) to the crap they make today, yes it’s crap compared to the tools from years ago.
My favorite drill is the Festo #CDD12 I bought in 2006, its in my truck and I use it several times a week.
