A lot of people are buying this Milwaukee M12 cordless jig saw and oscillating multi-tool combo kit. I’ve been hearing a lot of feedback about this year’s holiday season Milwaukee cordless power tool deals, but this one has been a surprising standout.

This kit gives you the M12 jig saw, M12 oscillating multi-tool (NOT the brushless model), (2) 2.0Ah batteries, a charger, and tool bag.
The multi-tool is useful, but I think it’s the jig saw that’s really grabbing everyone’s attention. The design is long in the tooth, but it remains popular for its compact size.
The kit, 2445-22MT, is said to be regularly priced at $199.
Deal Price: $149

If you just want the jig saw and not the multi-tool, Home Depot also has a special buy right now where you can get the M12 saw, a 2Ah battery, a 4Ah battery, and a charger for $129.

I get really tired of starter combos — I just sold about a dozen drills and Impact drivers because they just keep piling up. I’ve been glad to see combos like this recently where it still has value to someone who already had a few drills.
As I commented on this deal before, the M12 non-fuel OMT isn’t fast or powerful and doesn’t have tooless blade change but it is ridiculously compact to the point where you might as well just have it with you any time you’re going somewhere with your M12 stuff. This makes it a frequent use tool for me even though I have “better” OMTs
I don’t have the jig but that’s mostly because it’s not a service call tool for me so I don’t need it in M12.

I’ll bet you’re exactly right about the lack of drill being why this deal is popular. Everyone has a drill. But an OMT and a jigsaw are less common tools, and are both great for woodworking and DIY.

Too bad the muti-tool is near worthless. The newer brushless model is good and their M18 model is great, but the older M12 is one of the worst tools I have ever owned. Jig saw is nice though.

I have never used a different OMT so I have no comparison but it does what I expected it to do trim Osb and drywall for electrical box installation and nice tool for flush cutting sheathing around doors and windows

I agree. It’s a toy. I’ve relegated mine to light sanding jobs in tight areas, and precision drywall cutting.
I’ll be keeping an eye out for deals on the brushless version this year. There’s really no comparison.

The Fuel model (brushless) is passable but the original is terrible. It’s weak, other than being slender which has some advantages in tight spots the ergonomics are terrible, blade changes are a hassle.

I’ll chime in too that the brushed OMT is more hand vibrator than tool. I don’t fault Milwaukee for having made it as a foray into this class of tool for the M12 line – but continuing to sell it seems like a disservice and a way to tarnish rather than polish the brand.

That jigsaw seems like it is a nice compromise on design. You hold it closer to the workpiece like a barrel grip but have a more comfortable handle — and a trigger! — like a D handle.

I recommend this oscillating multi-tool for its compactness. I am a Dewalt guy, but also use the m12 line. I prefer this over the larger 20v versions due to the ability to fit into tight spaces. I use it to trim spray foam in between rim joists for example were a larger one won’t fit. Low vibration, it is easy to control and be precise. So easy to fit into a small portable tool bag kit for the occasional small side job. I am tempted to try this jig saw for the same reasons.

I have both of them. I guess it depends on what you’re using them for. They are near worthless on dimensional lumber. But if you are trying trim down XPS or something they are fine I guess.
The OMT needs a hex key which I always lose. It is imperial, I think 5/32?
The lever that locks the baseplate of the jig comes undone after a while (vibrates loose). So if you’re not careful 90 degree cuts become bevel cuts or the bevel starts to vary over the length of the cut.

I don’t have experience with the M12 OMT, but when I asked what are some dogs in the M12 line in the forum a few years ago, more than one person said the OMT was no good.

I’m curious. What do people do with all these tacky Red toy duffle bags? I know the multiple kit chargers are near useless (how many spares does anyone really need?) but what about these bags?

LOL, before packout I used them alot, since not so much. They are used for non tool and garage uses lately. Back when I dealt tools people were psyched if I threw them a free bag. Now I have piles of new ones still laying around with a ton of M12 chargers I cant even give away for free.
Albert
I like those bags. I use them instead of packout style boxes which I find to be too small, or too large for whatever I put in them. When possible, I put a tool and all related accessories into the same bag so that it becomes a complete kit. Then I just grab the bags I need.
I haven’t checked recently, but those bags used to be very inexpensive on eBay. Some were promo items from resellers who had extras after the holidays and others were from people breaking up the sets to sell individually. That goes for the chargers and batteries too.

I’m using some similar Ryboi duffle bags to organize my car’s trunk.

I have this jigsaw and it is the only Milwaukee tool I own that I don’t think is very good – otherwise I’m a big Milwaukee fanboy. It is very underpowered – struggles with even simple jigsaw tasks, even with a nice sharp blade. It true that it is compact, but so is a hand saw and sometimes I feel like the M12 jigsaw has about the same amount of power as a hand saw.
I hope these sales are because a redesign is coming soon!
Scar
That has been my experience as well. I got it as part of a promo many years ago. As a (theoretical) freebie, why not? But I would recommend against it if you actually need a jigsaw.

I once cut a shower/tub out of a bathroom with that original Milwaukee OMT . I still have three of them. I have the new Flex now.

I got the jigsaw as a free tool with the 12v impact driver/ 1/2″ hammer drill combo for $199 with one 2ah and one 4ah battery and charger.. I wanted to love the jigsaw, but it’s worth slightly more than I paid for it – which was nothing. Doesn’t track well or cut accurately. Hard to get consistent 90 degree cuts. That said, I like how it feels using it upside down and for rough cuts in pine. If it had more ooomph and better blade guide/tracking, maybe I’d like it more.
The original 12v OMT was fine for back then. Who knew your hand didn’t need to become numb after a couple of minutes of use. In use, must stop work to get the Allen wrench to remove the blade and all the parts to hold it in place, apply burn gel from touching the blade, put back your hearing protection and get back under the sink. I like my 12v fuel omt, but might have opted for the 18v if I hadn’t gotten such a great deal on it. That blade removal lever is really worth it as is the (seemingly) less vibration. If I was starting out and didn’t know better, I would think this is a great deal. But it will leave you wanting, in my experience from using both. For $129, the batteries and charger are great, but that jigsaw never made me glad to have it, just felt like it was faster than the saw on my multi tool.

Old non-fuel. Hard pass

Between my RV, Garage and shop. I don’t seem to ever have enough drills or drivers. By enough that means it requires a search to find one. The drill/driver combo with two batteries for any one else that needs more @$179.99 is about as low I believe as it will get. Its $229.99 regular price. .

Hoping/waiting for a m12 fuel jigsaw.

I was extremely underwhelmed by that jigsaw’s power and accuracy. If I hadn’t ordered online, I may have returned it to the store. Sold it on marketplace after using it once.
