I was in Home Depot a few days ago and noticed that the Milwaukee M12 Rover LED worklight light had been marked down to a “new lower price” of $69. Milwaukee’s press release stated a retail price of $79, and that’s what Home Depot and other retailers were previously charging.
When I got home, I checked the Home Depot website and sure enough, the online price has also dropped to $69.

I first mentioned the Milwaukee M12 Rover LED light in my Milwaukee 2016 New Product Symposium post back in June. In case you want to skip the quick discussion, below, here’s the Cliff’s Notes version:
The Milwaukee M12 Rover LED worklight has a spring-loaded clip on the bottom to grab onto studs, pipes, or whatever you can get its jaws around. The spring is surprisingly strong, so it’ll easily hold the Rover where ever you clip it. Milwaukee claims the light is as bright as a 250W halogen lamp, but without the heat.
The light can support itself in many ways: magnets, spring clip, and a hanging hole.
The two strong magnet pads on the bottom can easily support the light and a high capacity XC battery from any surface that attracts a magnet.
It also has a spring clamp in the base that can grab onto edges as wide as a 2×4. The spring clamp also has a slow retract feature to prevent the clamp from slamming shut on your fingers.

Finally there’s a diamond shaped hole in the bottom of the light for hanging it from a nail or screw.
The IP54 rated light is water and dust resistant, as well as impact, and chemical resistant. Milwaukee claims the light is bright enough to replace a 250W halogen.
It has three modes: (run times are with an XC 4.0 pack)
- Low — 200 Lumens (15 hours)
- Medium — 400 Lumens (7.5 hours)
- High — 1000 Lumens (3.5 hours)
This light also features the same TrueView technology as Milwaukee has been implementing in their other new lights. For review, Milwaukee’s TrueView means a consistent beam, optimized temperature color, and true representation of colors and detail.
The Milwaukee M12 Rover compact flood light is sold as a bare tool. The price is $69 — for now. I’ve seen many instances where Home Depot’s “new lower price” turns out to be a temporary sale price.
Update: Acme Tool and other authorized dealers are also offering the $69 sale price.
Price: $69

The recently did drops on a bunch of tools. The M12 endcap in my HD, actually had a big banner calling out the new prices. The ratchet, jigsaw, hammer drill dropped $20, and the multi tool, right angle, impact, spot light dropped $10. Lantern dropped to $49 in store, but also is being clearanced. The 4ah battery is also on clearance at the HD I was at.
But they did jack the price of the M12 Fuel Kit up $30 to $230, though still available with a free extra tool.

Yep, I just noticed that today at another store.
Here’s a picture of the banner with the tools and their new prices.

The Rover is great as well is the $49 lantern which has been discontinued its great for 180 or 360 degree area lighting, but really like the rover a lot as well as the run time and neutral led coloring, I still have my 6 year DC510 12v DeWalt Led with belt clip, but the run times were awesome for 2011 technology but by todays standards are pretty abysmal but still great for tight spaces and can be adjusted to not drowned the subject in too much light.
Since DeWalt basically abandoned the 12V max line, I jumped in last year and bought the M12 Fuel kit with free extra tool. I also picked up the Rover and lantern, my M12 Fuel Hackszall promo arrived today and blows my DeWalt 18V Sawzall out of the water, I used it on several items today, I was quite impressed at just how fast it was on mild steel, almost shocked at the speed. Yet it will be mainly used to ampute limbs….. on hard and soft woods trees.

At Home Depot there are some m12 kit deals that include either this light, the OMT, right angle drill or 4.0 battery for free.

My local HD has not yet updated their display – and still shows this at $79. But I’m guessing it would be at the $69 in the store computer.
One interesting thing – when looking at it – next to the model number it said “Household Type” . Maybe this is just a CYA to prevent complaints or lawsuits if it fails or causes problems in an industrial setting.

Just purchased both the M12 Area light and the M18 Searchlight.
Really love the M12 Area Light and it’s flexibility. AAA+. I bought specifically because if this article and did some additional research about it.
Was going back and force between buy the M12 spotlight or the M18 searchlight and settled on the M18 specifically because if it’s different light modes and the fact I have Milwaukee 18v 4.0 Ah batteries that I used for my Milwaukee Brushless Impact Wrench.
It’s a cool light but heavy and just not aesthetic enough to carry around as a spotlight in my opinion, however the 4 light modes blanket the light with positive selling features so I am still not sure if I keep it or take it back. I definitely reach for the M12 first just because of its lightweight and the ability to mount to almost anything.

It took a while for me to warm up to the search light. It IS heavy and a beast, but the angled head really comes in handy. Sometimes the ability to move the head just a few degrees to get better light on something is just what you need.
For instance I used the m12 rover and the M18 searchlight while I was under my new dishwasher installing it (twice so far). I spent over on hour on the floor looking underneath and the searchlight just gave me a better view because of the adjustablility.
I also needed light to find the screw up inside the cabinet to lift my counter top and the ability to sit the search light up on the battery and tilt the head the perfect angle to see what I doing really helped.
There are a ton of great lights out there now. I still like my Ryobi Dual source worklight, and I’m seriously looking at the three panel Ridgid light. It’s nice to have choices. It was just a few years ago it seems that the only ones out there were the crappy ones that came with a bundle to pad the number of tools.
