Milwaukee recently came out with new M18 CP3.0Ah High Output compact Li-ion battery packs.
To sum things up, this is their next-gen, latest and greatest, and highest capacity compact M18 cordless power tool battery.

It’s bigger than their 1.5Ah and 2.0Ah batteries, but is said to deliver XC battery-level power in a compact size, not to mention the boost in charge capacity and runtime.
Milwaukee M18 cordless power tool battery packs tend to be pricey, and this has been especially true for their compact batteries. That’s what makes this promo such a good deal.
Keith wrote in with the heads-up:
I noticed HD has the new M18 High Output 3.0ah batteries at $99 today, $50 less than they’ve been there and elsewhere. This is the first I’ve seen these discounted specifically and more than any brand or retailer wide promo since they were released.
Thank you to Keith for the tip!
Milwaukee has previously had promos on their older and long in the tooth 3.0Ah battery pack, but I don’t recall seeing notable promos on their compact battery packs.

With this deal, you get (2) of their new 3.0Ah High Output compact battery packs for $99. Looking online, other authorized retailers have the single batteries priced at $99 each, and 2-packs at $149.

Buy This If
This is a great buy if you want compact Milwaukee M18 battery packs that you might want to swap between compact or lighter duty tools and heavier duty or a little more demanding tools.
Milwaukee says that you get the power and runtime of an XC battery in a compact size, which should make it a good match for a wider range of tools than their 1.5Ah and 2.0Ah batteries.
If the slightly larger size isn’t a detractor for you, this CP3.0 battery 2-pack gives you more for the money. A quick search shows that 2.0Ah batteries are $79 each, and 1.5Ah 2-packs are $119. What this means is that if you’re looking for Milwaukee M18 batteries on a budget, either compact or their 3.0Ah XC pack, this 2-pack is currently the most cost-effective option.
Don’t Buy This If
If you want the most compact battery pack, or typically use lighter duty and long-runtime tools, such as Milwaukee’s compact brushless drills, impact drivers, or smaller LED worklights, you might want to stick with the smaller compact batteries.
For heavier duty tools, you might want to upgrade to XC battery packs, either their “standard” ones, such as Milwaukee M18 XC4.0 or XC5.0 batteries, or the new High Output 6.0Ah or 8.0Ah batteries. Even if a CP3.0 battery delivers XC power, 5.0Ah of charge capacity is still 67% greater than 3.0Ah.

These have hit $99 at both acme and HD but I think only online and sketchy availability. Can’t make up my mind if I”need” them
Mdd
Yeah same boat here, I made a list last night of all the batteries I have, do I “need” vs want these new ones?
I think I will buy them, as you have 90 days to return if from HD – seems like when I don’t buy something that is a great deal, I will have that moment a week or two later where I say, damn I wish I woulda….

My nearest HD shows 17 in stock.

Farm n Fleet has this deal as well.
PJ
Farm And Fleet has them for $99 also. If you can find a $1 filler item they have a promo code, TENOFF1905 that takes $10 off a purchase of $100+.
Brian A
But they charge shipping and tax which would be $15

wait a few months and they’ll be $30-$35/ea on eBay. Especially if they’re ever sold in store as a “free” promotional item with a bare tool or kit.
The Dewalt 3.0s, which use the exact same Samsung 30T cells as these Milwaukees, were as low as $30 over Christmas time on eBay. Bought 3 of them for <$100.
And there are no Chinese fakes of these 20700/21700 packs. Before anyone mentions it.
Adam
While I agree the price will drop, one you will not have them to use for several months, and second the price for after 3rd party sellers hovers closer to a little above 50% of retail. Retail on these is $100 each. As they are already at a $50 promo, I think you will see them closer to $40-45. 2.0’s go for $30-35.
With that, some get 10%off at HD, and some live near Menards, which is another 11% back this week.
Mark Matlock
Menards doesn’t carry Milwaukee
Scott
No, but HD matches Menards 11% rebate sale. So you can get an 11% rebate on in-store purchases at HD while Menards is running their promo. Pretty good deal.

Can you comment on the sizing with a power adapter on it? I have the coiled extension for the heated jackets and wondering if these new 3.0s and a power adapter would fit in the front pocket of a tight fitting heated vest.
I hate the “kidney” location of the battery pack
Doresoom
I don’t have the 18V power adapter, but these are only 1/8″ taller than the 2Ah compact batteries. The width difference is about a 1/4″ bigger, and the length is around 5/8 to 3/4″ bigger than the 2Ah.

Anyone know the actual weight compared to XC packs? I looked at them and they are surprisingly large.
RKA
CP 2.0 15oz
HO 3.0 21-22oz
XC 5.0 26oz
And they HO does indeed pack the punch of an XC. I gave it a whirl today with my mid torque impact on a brake job. The CP’s didn’t give the tool enough oomph, but the HO lives up to its promise.
Avi
So the HO ads say they run cooler, so what is better for a big tools, say an sds drill, an HO with 3 Ah, or or an XC with 4 Ah?
tojen1981
The 21700 cells in the cp 3.0 battery in theory will give you better performance than the 18650 cells in the 4.0 in the sds.
I have the 6 1/2 fuel circ saw and the cp 3.0 do perform better than the 5.0 xc packs I have, but dont run as long between charges.
I’m waiting for the 8.0 xc packs to go on sale before I invest in them. That would be the best compromise for a high demand tool without the weight penalty/size of running a 12.0.

So Lowe’s has the dual 3ah compact DeWalt 20v batteries for $99 right now (grab a 10% off coupon on ebay for a buck and save a little more). For those needing this but for DeWalt.
Brandon
Anyone know what Tools the new 3.0 battery don’t fit with Belt Clip. I almost couldn’t get it off my M18 Surge almost had to take off belt clip. It fits my M18 One Key Gen 2 Impact and drill fine.
Blythe
They sell an upgraded belt clip now for this situation (allegedly) but I’m having trouble finding it
Josh
I’ve seen the clips at both farm and fleet (if you live in the Midwest) and Home Depot. The number is 48-67-0015. It’s a bit wider than the clip that comes on the tool. I’ve already switched a couple of my tools out for this one.

For under a $100 it’s also less than the XC 3.0 packs. Have heard about some fit issues with M18 lights will it work with the 2735-20 M18 Cordless 160 Lumens LED Flashlight, 2360-20 M18 3000-Lumen ROVER LED AC/DC Flood Light (aka Red Rover), compact and full size brushless (non-fuel version) drill/ driver, hammer drill, 1/4 impact?
