If you’re looking for a more powerful cordless rotary hammer, Milwaukee launched a new M18 Fuel 1-1/4″ SDS Max rotary hammer a few months ago.

Milwaukee M18 Brushless vs M18 Fuel

Milwaukee M18 Cordless Rotary Hammers 2713 vs 2613
Milwaukee 2613 (top) and 2713 (bottom) cordless rotary hammers.

Milwaukee Tool launched the 2713 M18 Fuel 1″ SDS Plus rotary hammer 7 years ago, in March 2016. Now, they are launching the 2613 brushless 1″ SDS Plus rotary hammer.

Let’s see how they compare on paper.

Again, 2713 is the older M18 Fuel model, 2613 is the new M18 brushless model. Both are 1″ SDS Plus D-handle rotary hammers.

Impact Energy

2713: 2.1 ft-lbs
2613: 1.95 ft-lbs

Max Speed

2713: 1,500 RPM
2613: 1,270 RPM

Max Hammer Rate

2713: 4,400 BPM
2613: 4,580 BPM

Length

2713: 16.6″
2613: 15″

Weight (tool-only)

2713: 6.05 lbs
2613: 5.3 lbs

Price (tool-only)

2613: $199

Comparison Summary

The 2613 is shorter and lighter, and has an anti-vibration feature. The 2713 is a Fuel-series tool, with slightly higher impact energy and rotational speed.

Both have a chisel rotation function and LED light.

The vac pump doesn’t ship for another 4 months (at least). I’m still working on that post.

The rotary hammer is available today, which bumped it up the queue.

That vacuum pump looks like a winner to me; I’ll be getting one of those.

This 2613 seems like kind of a whiff to me. Not much reason to upgrade if you ask me – if you have the 2713. You think they would have made the impact energy stronger – that’s what these things are all about (to me). Great to be lighter and have AVT, but give me the power first and the rest follows. Just my 2 cents…

      They seem to be continuing to move into the plumbing/pipefitting space. The upcoming cordless threading machine looks interesting for small pipe;

Brushless, but not a “fuel” designation? Does that say anything about constuction etc.?

    I like the anti-vibration handle.

      No, it’s more of a power/performance consideration I think.

I’m still talking with Milwaukee to better understand things, but I think M18 brushless is the new standard performance level, while M18 Fuel continues to be the premium top-of-the-line level.

I think we’ll start seeing more M12 and M18 brushless tools that are not given Fuel branding.

It still has a 5-year warranty, and so I don’t think it’s fair to assume there are any differences in construction.

Honestly the 2713 already seems slow to me. A lower power version I guess can save someone $50 if they just do small holes.

It depends on what you’re looking to do.

If you mainly need to drill 3/16″ holes for anchors, this isn’t the best size of tool.

If that was my case I would opt for the M12 Fuel version. But if you are only in M18 then, though why limit yourself to a slower less powerful version. It is a strange option I do not think is needed or going to be popular.

I personally like this form factor which our oldest Bosch hammer drills feature. The newest brushless ones are 18v and they’re not really better ergonomically. Only cordless-wise.

There’s already a million and one cordless rotary hammers with little to no differentiation among brands other than battery ecosystem.

When will Milwaukee start getting into the “complete solutions” business, i.e. selling not only rotary hammers but also Milwaukee-branded fasteners, chemical anchors, etc.?

I’ve had the 2713 for about 6 years now and think it’s been fantastic. This seems like a downgrade and is not fuel…
Does that mean there is a FUEL version just around the corner?

They already announced the next gen of the 2713 about 6 months ago.

      Not quite.

The 2916 is a 1-1/4” SDS Max rotary hammer. It is not meant to be a direct replacement for the 2713 1” SDS Plus.

I posted about that new model separately, and included a link within the post. Here it is again:
