I just posted about Home Depot’s 2015 holiday cordless power tool combo kit promo, and felt that one particular deal was worthy of a separate post. Read on and you’ll see why.
Milwaukee’s latest M18 Fuel hammer drill and impact driver combo kit (2897-22) is out now, and features the brand’s latest and greatest brushless hammer drill and brushless impact driver. These are both incredible tools, and although I haven’t done head-to-head comparisons yet, Milwaukee says these are the highest performing tools of their kind on the market.

The price for the combo is steep – $399, but that’s reasonable considering you’re getting 2 premium tools, 2 XC 5.0Ah battery packs, a standard multi-voltage charger, and a hard carrying case.
The hammer drill/driver delivers up to 1200 in-lbs of torque, and the impact driver up to 1800 in-lbs. Plus, the impact driver has its 3 speed and torque settings, plus that new special self-tapping screw 4th mode.
In order to get a $150 discount, you have to buy something else. The discount is then applied to the whole order. Unless there’s something in particular that you want to buy, say another cordless kit, an add-on tool, or more batteries, you should buy the M18 power source.
Update: The list of eligible tools have changed. Go to the promo page, add the combo to your cart, and then choose from the list of qualifying tools. As of 12/2/15, the lowest-price eligible add-on is $59. With a $59 add-on, you get the M18 Fuel brushless kit and the add-on for $308 after discount.

The M18 power source is only $29, and it is a great accessory to keep around. It can be used to power Milwaukee’s M12 heated jackets with M18 Li-ion battery packs, but also has a USB charging port.
If there’s nothing else that you want from the additional tool list that you must pick from, the M18 power source is the cheapest accessory that’ll still get you the $150 discount. It comes in handy, but it’s priced low enough to give away to a buddy or thrown into your tool bag for just-in-case occasional usage.

On the road and away from an AC outlet or vehicle charging port? Pop the M18 power source onto an M18 Li-ion battery, and it’ll juice up your smartphone or tablet. It’s not too quick for charging tablets, but can recharge smartphone batteries at a respectable rate.
There’s also an M12 power source for $30, and a couple of other add-on options under $50, but if you’re going to buy something extra just to get the discount, the M18 power source offers most when it comes to unexpected functionality.
I expect that Home Depot is stocking many more of the M18 Fuel combo kits than the M18 power source accessory. Since Milwaukee’s M18 Fuel kits rarely go on sale, I figured it’s better to post about this deal price now, rather than later, in case the power source is indeed in shorter supply and sells out quickly.
Final Price: $278 for the M18 Fuel kit plus the M18 power source

Do you think there’s another combo option that’s worth pointing out? I thought this one was deserving of a separate post given that it involves Milwaukee’s latest M18 Fuel combo kit, and because the Fuel kits are very rarely discounted. There are sometimes free tool promos, but this is one of very few rare occasions where there’s a sizable monetary discount.
For all of you that have asked me to keep my eyes open for Milwaukee Fuel tool deals, here you go! If anyone wants me to keep my eyes open for a different type of deal, please let me know!

If you have m12 batteries already, I’d also look at those tools too. Im getting the M12 spotlight as my extra tool. Just wish a local store had the light in stock

This is such a fantastic deal. I’ve been eyeing this set since it was first introduced last spring/summer but couldn’t bring my self to shell out the 400 bucks for it. I too bought the new m12 spotlight as my extra tool. Cant believe you get the full 150 off when you only spend 69.00 on the 2nd tool. My out the door cost including state tax was $330. Awesome deal! Thanks for the post guys
PS
I purchased the M18 brushless set + 1 tool (free after $150 discount) last year and combined it with 11% Menards matching rebate. So, if you are not in a hurry, wait for a few weeks and see if Menards comes with 11% rebate. Note: You need to have a Menards location near your local HD for 11% matching rebate from HD.

The discount also works with the brushless Makita combo kit. I bought the big one with the new 5.0 fuel gauge batteries along with a clearance 4.0 battery and got the discount. I felt so good about it I got another. I will then sell a few other kits I have with smaller batteries. I already bought the fuel gen 2 combo for 279.00 from Atlas Machinery in Canada. It was a 100.00 offtrade in deal but they didn’t require me to send a trade after all. After the exchange rate, the price was unbelievable.

Sorry for the confusion. I did have to provide a trade in but I didn’t have to ship it across the border for 55.00. My friend actually was able to provide it for me
jay
Is the second generation the same as the one key? I saw on one of your post that the fuel drill had selection options just like the impact. Any idea when those will be out?
Phi
Early 2016 is what I’ve heard for the One Key drills and impact driver.

Don’t forget the brand new Ridgid brushless combo going for $279 with $100 of when you purchase something else.
Thomas
I’d love to jump on this deal, but I already have the gen 1st-gen 2797. I really do like the new features though. Decisions decisions…
Roland
Ok. I am totally confused over the three sets. Was going to get the Milwaukee over the Makita (3spd was the tie breaker). Then saw the rigid for 279.99 I purchased that set. Have not opened yet. Thinking the Milwaukee is with the extra $70. Anyone have thoughts.
Stuart
There are lots of different ways to approach the comparison, but what it comes down to is what you’re looking for.
Do you want to buy into Milwaukee’s system, or Ridgid’s? Milwaukee offers much greater expandability, which means nothing if you don’t want or need any of the broad offerings.
Are you comfortable spending more?
Me? I’d buy into Milwaukee over Ridgid if I had the cash and had my eye on some of the other brushless tools (saws, grinder). But Ridgid has their recent brushless nailers. Milwaukee has band saws, Hole Hawgs, and awesome LED worklights.
The non-ToolGuyd me would probably go for the Ridgid based on cost.
You have some time to make your decision, but some of the less expensive add-on tools are selling out fast. They might be restocked.
If in your shoes I’d buy both, think about the decision more, and then return the set I decided not to keep.
Roland
Well I did the math and the Milwaukee was not much more. It was the Eco-system that did it it.
I added the 29.99 4 volt Ryobi screwdriver. What the receipt does is take $140 off the main set and $10 off the ryobi. You can return the ryobi and get $20 back. So the net cost for the set is $260 plus tax. A great deal.
Thank for the advice. The tools are very nice.

Stuey, how is the new Milwaukee drill holding up to binding? I’m still curious how they can run 1200 in lbs without some sort of user protection against binding.
Toolpig
Roland,
I feel you made a wise choice. I have the Rigid brushless Gen5x and the Fuel 2 and there truly is no comparison. Even though the Rigid claims higher torque, it’s NOT there! I call it blatant false advertising. I have compared it to the Makita XDT09 impact as well and the rigid just can’t hang with the big dogs. Look at my videos on Instagram. They are pretty telling. Free from corporate marketing hype bi tell it like it is.
Diplomatic Immunity
Damn just saw that video. Rather disturbing. Seems like fudging numbers on Ridgid’s part. What do you think of the Makita XPH07Z vs the Milwaukee? Also thoughts on the Makita XDT01Z vs the Makita XDT09Z?
andrew
I cant seem to get the discount when adding the m18 power source to my cart. Is this no longer a qualifying item?
Stuart
Hmm, I guess they did change it. Even if they didn’t, it would have sold out again in a heartbeat.
Confused
I think they did change it, cheapest add on tool I can find that kicks off the promo is now the vacuum. My local HD wouldn’t honor the bogo when I bought this with the m12 kit that was supposed to include a free tool. Seems if you want just that kit it might be cheaper it to buy it on ebay from the guys who killed the power source deal ordering multiple sets to resell and part out.
adam
the registers are programmed to only accept one “group” discount. that is why if you have a Lowes 10% off coupon (or Vet discount), have them only apply it to one item, so the “group” discount can still take affect.
I too also tried what you attempted last week.
