Milwaukee Tool has recalled a subset of M18 Fuel top handle chainsaws, model 2826, due to a potential issue with the chain brake.
The issue and recall only affect some models, which can be identified by an “A” character in the 4th position of the serial number. Serial numbers with “B” in the 4th position are not affected by the recall.
This affects select models with 12″ or 14″ chains and bars, with model numbers 2826-20C, 2826-22T, 2826-21T, or 2826-20T.

Stuart, It’s good to know you have the platform to make owners aware of these things. I appreciate it. Chainsaws in particular need to operate safely.

I just checked and it applies to mine! Makes me wonder what other recalls there are that I’m not aware of.
Stuart
I’m working on a roundup. Some brands are excellent about media awareness, most are not. Milwaukee gave me a call to ensure I understood the details, and also sent an email.

It’s worth doing an hour on the CPSC website every year or two to be sure there’s nothing waiting for you.

Horrible process. Took dozens of clicks to find a link that would work. Finally submitted a ticket and got a label to print, but there’s no indication I can see about packing/packaging. I don’t recall ever having to deal with a product recall but if this is typical I’d guess lots of people give up and ignore the recall.

I’ve always had quite a good experience with Milwaukee’s warranty system, for shipping it just needs to be in a box, they’ve never cared what kind. The post did say to not ship your bar or chain, I’m assuming they won’t send them back.
Andy
Removing the bar and chain makes it cheaper and easier to ship safely, and avoids risk of the carrier damaging the bar / chain too.

Not to mention injuries to carrier personnel! Still, I don’t keep boxes or packing materials around – I’m a consumer, not a business.
The big annoyance was getting to a working link. I eventually tried the CPSC website and the link there worked fine.
I assume they don’t need proof of purchase for recall of an issue that could cause serious personal injury. Finding the receipt would be yet another headache.

Nope, recalls are about keeping people safe even if you’re the 5th owner.
I had a recall done on my jeeps emergency brake and it’s 31 years old no idea how many owners
