Over at Home Depot, they have a Milwaukee Packout tool box stack on sale for $199. This tool box trio comes with a small tool box, large tool box, and rolling bottom tool box.
Buying all 3 products separately would set you back $280. The 3-piece combo is currently $279 at Acme Tools, with a December 1st shipping date.

Home Depot’s site says that there’s limited stock at local stores, but neither of my 2 closest stores had any out on the sales floor as of this morning. They currently only have an “express delivery” option, which adds $35 to the price.
Adding multiple units to an order doesn’t seem to affect the express delivery fee.
Learn more about the new Milwaukee Packout tool storage system.
Price: $199, plus $35 “express delivery” (at least to my zip code)
In-store pickup *might* be an option, depending on where you are. It looks like some stores haven’t received these yet, or entered them into their inventory systems.

Update: Multiple readers mentioned seeing a $279 price. I still see the $199 price, but it seems to be very localized and dependent on zip code and local inventory.
I played around with different zip codes. If you put zip code 91204 in as your store, it shows up as $199 and available for in-store pickup or Express Delivery. If you put 90028, it shows up $279, and available for express delivery but not pick up. Both stores are in LA and very close to each other.
You still save $45 if you go for express delivery, which I’m guessing involves a Home Depot associate packaging up and sending you an item from the sales floor or back storeroom.
But Home Depot’s online warehouses or fulfillment centers might be getting these in stock too.
I don’t think we’ll see a price better than $199 later in the season, but there’s a chance. Maybe Milwaukee or Home Depot might discount the Packout combo a little more, to make it more appealing for early adopters to give it a try.
In other words, it’s on sale now, and you can get it right now if you’re okay paying for speedy local delivery. But if you don’t need it right now, you might save on that express delivery fee if you wait a little longer.
Some stores are reporting inventory, so in-store pickup might be a viable option. One of the 2 Home Depots I visited today is reporting inventory online, but didn’t have anything out in the store, either in the seasonal gift center area, or where any of the regular tool boxes are shelved.

I myself am somewhat invested in the Dewalt Toughsystem. Even at a reduced introductory price structure, I am having difficulty in seeing an advantage in buying into a second tool storage solution. It’s obvious that Milwaukee put a large amount of thought into their design, but what benefit will it offer over my existing storage solution that will offset the increase in cost for their offerings?
One issue that I have with both systems is that the base unit in the stack with wheels on it will not sit upright in the bed of my truck under the tonneau cover. This in and of itself would not keep me from investing in either brand, but in the current introductory offer from Milwaukee, it limits my interest, and lowers the monetary advantage even further.
How are they going to overcome the obstacle of someone owning an existing system if not by pricing? Reviews alone will not work for me, and I doubt, to a certain degree, that Home Depot is going to invest in a complete stock of every item in Milwaukee’s storage system for me to put hands on and evaluate for myself. This leaves me, personally, in the wait and see category, and more likely to continue adding to the competing system I currently own.
Szymon
I too have the Dewalt ToughSystem.
As much as I was really excited about it before I got my hands on it. I am not so pleased with it anymore.
1 issue I have with the base cart with wheels is that the extendable handle “falls out” when pulling the system over a sidewalk curb or step. Even a garage ramp, the handle falls out if you have the box packed with some weight.
Also, the poles of the pull out handles are spaced so far apart that its hard to use the box with wheels as a dolly with a small parts/shipping on top as it falls through.
Another issue I find with the entire system is the metal latches that close the box cover keep falling off.
If you have them opened and bump into them, they fall out of its place. The metal Phillips screw does not do a very good job in holding it. This was an issue with other dewalt boxes I own as well.
The Milwaukee system looks a lot better with a lot more though put into it.
I really should not invest my money in another system.
Dan
They should offer a trade in discount for competitors storage. For example, trade in a tough box and get 30% off a pack out box.
I think Makita did this for power tools at least once in Australia (or was it Milwaukee?).
Szymon
That would be Awsome
I would jump on that
Stuart
Update: Stores that have it in their inventory, at least in the system, seem to have a $199 price. Others, who are reporting 0 stock, have it listed at $279.
Weird. I’m guessing that the price drops to $199 once it’s received in stores and entered into sellable inventory.
Cheyne
I think that’s correct. My immediate local store is listed at $279 and out of stock, however, two Home Depot’s about 30 miles from me are listed at $199 and in stock. Well done Stuart! I wasn’t expecting a price drop so quick on these….I’m in.
JMG
The $279 seems to be a glitch in the Home Depot system. Some of the stores have not registered the price change and their system seems to be blocking out stores from the search results that have registered the new pricing. I manually adjusted the store location to one that was not showing up in the search results for the packout and the $199 pricing then showed up.

$199 plus $79 express delivery in Brooklyn, NY. That brings you back to $279 plus tax
Steven
$199 in Arkansas in store. Thinking about getting one.

Is packout really 2x better than the ridigid boxes (at the inevitable $99 sale price). Of course you get have more options with packout, but is the core stack twice as good?
Jim Felt
I don’t think so. I really like the serviceability and integrity of the Pelican-like (knockoff?) Ridgid models.
But I like black boxes. No marketing Red or Blue or Yellow “colors” etc.
But it’s me!
Another vote for the Ridgid boxes. I have two sets and love them.
MPG
Me too! I was thinking the same thing the Rigid boxes I have look as good and as functional. 2+ years and going $99.
firefly
I have the Ridgid boxes and I love them. I think they are the best bang for your buck. With that said, once either Dewalt or Milwaukee come up with a decent system (such as drawers) that allow side access that’s also waterproof then I will be all over them. I am aware that the Tough Box have drawer but I am not too terribly impress by them. Dewalt also have a sliding rail system that come fairly close to be what I want.
Alex
Dewalt just announced this summer during their media show a new waterproof drawer unit (choice of 2 or 3 drawers)
Nick
I’ve had 4 ridgid boxes for about 2 and half years now and, functionality aside, they still reek whenever I open them. I tried airing them out early on, even scrubbing one with soapy water, and it made no difference. If I leave them open a crack the smell doesn’t build up, but any time I open a clasped one that awful odor hits me. The intensity *may* be less, but going off memory over 2 years I can’t really say for sure. Does anyone else have ongoing issues with the smell?
I read in a study abstract before that getting the right recipe in PP injection molding isn’t that simple and variations can result in parts that emit stronger odors than others. They tested heating the samples in a post-cure step and found a limited reduction in offgassing but sometimes, more often with higher temperatures, they ended up offgassing even more. What I took away from it was there wasn’t an easy fix and I may just have to live with it as long as I make use of the boxes.
RF
I was in Home Depot today, unfortunately they didn’t have the Milwaukee system in yet.
But I checked out the Ridgid system and you are absolutely correct, the smell is terrible.
Brian
Am I weird that I like the smell of a new tool box?
z2w
Not at all. Do you happen to have the Ridgid ones? Which brand are you thinking of in particular?

Tried it. Came up $199 with a $79 express shipping fee. So I’m back at the original price & not getting the great deal.
Steve
Update. Next day the store closest to me had 6 in stock. Picked up one today in store for the $199.

Here is my story with these new fancy branded storage systems.
I’ve always kept my plumbing tools in a simple metal toolbox. The kind with one big tray on top. I did the same with my electrical. A few months ago I thought “its time to move up and improve my systems” I bought a couple fancy Dewalt storage units and started moving my tools and parts supply over. Nothing would fit! I ended up replacing my one plumbing box with two dewalt boxes. The same thing happened with the electrical. Sure the new boxes had compartments but even then, it seemed like there was half the space. I then dawned on me that instead of thin sheet metal, the new cases were made out of thick molded plastic which cost space. They also had multiple snaps and clasps which made it a pain to get items inside. Last, the old removable tray allowed me to set it aside to have access to the bottom compartment. The newer units had a flip lid that was all or nothing and accessing the items in the top blocked access to the items below.
I am seriously contemplating selling the new system and going back to the simple metal tool boxes.
fred
I think that these sorts of boxes may work better/more efficiently when they are selected or designed to fit certain tools. I’m thinking about Festool packing tools in their systainers or Bosch in the L-Boxxes. Even with that – I still pine for the days when power tools came in metal cases that had enough room to carry accessories.
I also don’t quite get the cache of rolling around with boxes emblazoned with a manufacturer’s name in bold white on red plastic.
Diplomatic Immunity
It’s that putting a brand name plastered on the boxes that keeps me from wanting boxes like this. I already have some L-Boxxes and it’s weird enough pulling Makita tools out of them. At least I could get vanilla Sortimo boxes or vanilla Tanos boxes if I wanted. It would be nice if these (if they were in a color other than bright red) and the Dewalt boxes came without logos on them.
FD
I have the same experience.
Gradually got up to a dozen of old fashioned style toolboxes with insert tray; dedicated for demo, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, …
Got a set of the new Ridgid system for over a year now, and fail to see them as effective or efficient when it comes to storing tools and having access to them. They’re like dumb boxes. Waterproof, sturdy, etc sure. But they’re just bulk bins, without dividers, trays, … So for now I reserve it for when I have to move all my portable battery operated tools and their supplies.
Ryan
I spoke with a Milwaukee rep at Home Depot today. They showed me their instruction sheet that detailed when/where products should be put out and how they should be displayed, etc. she said the packout trio is supposed to go on sale on 13 November. I’m guessing the stores showing as 199 have them in stock but can’t sell them until then.
Aaron
Just got Milwaukee packout last night from home Depot my store had 3 in stock for $199. This thing is awesome.
GMA15R
According to the website, the three HD’s closest to my home have 4 in stock. 14 in stock in Brooklyn, NY store. Will stop by later to look at one.
RF
I stopped by Hamilton Ave. They weren’t on the floor yet. It was Sunday night and their customer service is bad enough, so I didn’t bother asking them to track them down. Some random guy said they should be on the floor in a couple of days.
Joe
I’ve owned thentough system since it came out , 2-3 years ago ,never a problem with the boxes or metal clasps, only one side yellow “ connector “ came out..they live outside all year ,no water, no problems. The guy whose said they are too tall for his truck cover. Well just get the system tough boxes separately and use the mobile dolly,,they will all fit
..no problem……also the new tough system van set up is perfect and the New 2 and 3 drawer Waterproof drawer units will be a great addition to the line….
Ryan
Confirmed that if you pick a store with inventory, it’s $199. Nice to see a discount on the set, as $279 is only a $1 difference from retail buying the 3 parts separately!
John
They’ll be $199 for Pro-Black Friday at all Home Depots.
Scott S.
Just picked mine up for $199. Had to wait for them to “find them”, as the Home Depot app was showing 6 in stock, but no one knew where they were. After a 2 day wait, got the phone call today. I must say, this is a DRASTIC improvement over my old Husky rolling bag. In a side by side comparison in my loose gravel driveway, the Milwaukee setup rolls over rough terrain MUCH easier, with almost double the weight in it. Very well built. I picked this one over the Ridgid set because of the fact that the lid on the rolling bottom on the Ridgid is not hinged and comes completely off. Deal killer for me.
Don
Disappointed once again with the Milwaukee organizers.
Really why waste valuable room for reinforced lips and shelf hooks?
Then wasting valuable space to leave that gap down the middle so that the half sets match the full set trays? I really love my Old Stanley Professional organizers in how they use the full space with lipless storage that can be rearranged. Unfortunately the Stanley is not part of an integrated system. That I desire to continue using in the back of the truck. They do hold lots of electrical fittings and the shallow holds smaller screws etc..
It appears you cannot move the Milwaukee bins to allow the lid to dip into them and better seal them, which is nice but comes at a high cost of customization.
Trying to get the three part set, right now local HD seems all out. Looking forward to trying it. Just returned two locking Milwaukee organizers today, since they did not lock to a full system just to each other.
Thank You for the informative reviews and easy to find resources of our options.
Cheers,
Don
John
Pretty sure the “old” organizers (before PACKOUT) weren’t actually made by Milwaukee… just a “lick & stick” branding job. Could be wrong tho.
Ross
These were taken down from the website today.
Ryan
Yes, I noticed that too.
Don
Talked to Rigid/Milwaukee girl at local HD today. She was a bit weary of this older guy at first, I asked about the system and she lit up. She seemed very excited about it, mentioned that they are suppose to be in next week for the pre black friday pro days.
Also got my $20 off coupon today so another 10% off.
Still on their homepage with a link to the details.
https://www.milwaukeetool.com/packout
Stuart
$20 coupon?
I met with the tool department head at my local HD today, as part of that partnership thing.
They said that this combo will be included in their Pro Black Friday sales event. Each store is slated to get 3-5 combos, with larger stores likely set to get a couple more.
Don
Home Depot Pro account, I seem to get a $20 for $200min purchase weekly.
I tend to forget, General and Electrical Contractor so I make many purchases there weekly but not many over the $200…
I have not tried lately, but when I needed to buy a new Makita Grinder etc.. they would allow me to use the Harbor Freight 20% coupon.
Ann
To all you out there who know what you are talking about….I know nothing about this stuff…..just that my husband desperately wants it for Christmas and since he cut off 2 fingers a work a few weeks ago, he would be really excited to get it for Christmas!! Anyway, when it does come out in the stores, how fast will these fly? And any idea when that will be so I can be there first thing…..that’s if its not a work day for me…
Stuart
It’ll be coming to Home Depot stores starting Sunday the 12th, for the Pro Black Friday event that starts the 13th. Stores will have limited quantities. Other stores offer the same, but not with a discount, at least not right now.
I hope he has a speedy recovery!

I placed an online pick up order for my local Home Depot which showed 6 bundles in stock. I received a phone call a few hours later stating the manager looked all over the store and couldn’t find any of these products. My order was cancelled and refunded. Staten Island, NY
Ryan
Sounds like every order I’ve ever placed from HomeDepot.com for an in-stock item. Their inventory is either off or it’s way up on a shelf in the box still. I’ve found stuff when they couldn’t just by walking around and looking at the model numbers written on the boxes way up high.
Bob M
I also tried placing an online pickup order today. Shortly afterward, I also received a call, but the rep said these were a “Black Friday only” special and canceled/refunded my order. Strange there’s such chaos around this – sounds like others were able to buy.
Ryan
Here’s what I did — my local store was out of stock, so it showed at $279. I picked the option to search nearby stores and added it to the cart for a store that had 3 in stock for $199. Added to the cart for that store, then changed the method to ship to home (free). It’s shipped from a Home Depot warehouse, not the local store. Already got shipping confirmation, so it appears to have worked.
Stuart
Nice!

When I am there I scan the item code, if it shows a lot in stock I have a sales associate hunt it down, have been real successful.
Went there at 6:30 this morning they had 5 at the closest store. Bought one and a some bit sets then used the $20 coupon.
Latter at another store picking up emergency materials for a crew, they had 4-5 still on the floor at 1pm. They also had a display of the 36v makita tools. Do not know what to do, I do not need the tools but the 4- 5.0 bats and dual charger are worth it.
Saw a DeWalt folding work table for $69 iirc. Real nice how the legs fall out and in quickly. Still not sure if I have a need.
Ordered the small parts bins (Milwaukee Pack Sys) from ACME and a 10″ tool bag from HD online. Will have to see if I can get the system to work for my needs.
Would be nice if there was a grove for holding pipe steady while cutting on the lower two pieces, but the indentations between the mounting holes may do. Also thinking a work top that click in may be convenient, I don’t want to use the top for drilling down into and ruining the weather resistance.
Were accustomed to using the rubbermaid carts for hauling tools and materials onto jobs. Have to see if this will work on my open run around truck.
It is quite large in person. Waiting on the small parts bins and bag to set up.
Also looking forward to buying the blades and ordering the free small storage unit.
Thanks Again for the reviews etc.. found this site while looking at my options, looking forward to subscribing to it.
Cheers,
Don

So, I went and checked these out in store and was very underwhelmed with how sturdy they felt. I’ll stick with dewalt for half the price.
firefly
I saw them at the home depot today. I like them overall. They do have a premium feel to it. The latching mechanism is interesting. To put them together is very easy with one hand. I haven’t figure out an easy way to unlatch them with one hand though.
I also checked out the milwaukee premium cabinet. I like it. I wouldn’t mind getting it if I didn’t have the older Milwaukee cabinets.
Mike
homedepot.com said that my local Home Depot had 4 of these in stock so I purchased this from my local Home Depot for $199 with free in-store pick up, however they were unable to find it anywhere so they had to cancel my order.
I then tried another Home Depot a little farther away with free in-store pick up and the same thing happened, they gave me a call and said they couldn’t find it anywhere. I got a call from the same Home Depot an hour later saying that the manager found one still in box in the receiving dock in the back. I was able to pick it up 20 minutes later for $199.
Next day, I checked and the price went up to $279.00. I scored.
So if homedepot.com says that your Home Depot has this in stock and you/they can’t find it, ask if someone can look in the back.
Caleb Helmuth
Cant get them anywhere I look.
Acme has them for 279 but won’t receive until feb25th.
