There don’t seem to be ANY exclusions.
I checked the promo on the M12 Installation drill/driver, which is regularly $199, and sure enough the $29.85 discount appeared at checkout. I also checked batteries and a couple of SKUs that typically aren’t discounted.
There also doesn’t seem to be any max savings ceiling.
You Need to Know: Promos like this have a limited sales cap, and when that cap is reached, the promo will end without warning. In other words, HURRY UP and get your order in ASAP.

Good deal – if they have what you want.
I was still trying for a 2787-22HD ($2629) magnetic drill press -but they don’t seem to carry it. They don’t have the 2788-22 either.
Just for curiosity I added a $1500 Milwaukee 2677-23 to may cart to see if they capped their discount to $100 as others seem to have done in the past. Nope – the discount shows up as $225 – the 15% as advertised – a good deal in these times.

Nice. Just ordered the M12 360 degree green laser.

Great deal, just be aware of your local sales tax. It is calculated on the pre-discount amount. In my case the 10.25% sales tax severely ate up the 15% discount. I’ll have to wait for a Milwaukee free tool give-away as holiday spending on gifts has left me with nothing to spend on the workshop. Bah humbug!

More and more states/localities have put pressure on internet vendors to collect sales tax. Sometimes you can still find a few smaller players who seem to disregard this for addresses outside their territory. Or perhaps they fall below some sales volume threshold that makes them exempt. I sometimes find that shipping to my Florida address (sales tax 6.5%) is advantageous compared to shipping to my principal residence (8.625% sales tax) – and I don’t feel like I’m a tax cheat when what I’m buying is for use in Florida. Many states, however, ask that you declare your internet purchases on your income tax returns and make-up for any under collection of sales tax.

Hey, you’re right – good catch. That’s definitely the wrong way to calculate it in my state (WA). It should be based on what the customer pays, not the pre-discount amount. Perhaps this can vary by state, though.
In cases like these either the vendor would be remitting too much sales tax to the state or they would pocket the difference (either intentionally or unintentionally). Either way they won’t be getting my business.

Yeh, something’s screwy. I had a couple things in my cart, but once I went check out I noticed the total was a bit different than I was expecting. Not only was it taxed pre-discount, the tax rate was 1.25% higher than my local/state tax rate. It was still a decent deal, but it just seemed too sketch for me.

Why would sales tax be calculated on the undiscounted price? Typically this only occurs with rebates to consumers that are applied by the seller.

I picked up a 1/2″ impact…pretty good deal really. On their checkout page it did show tax on the non-discounted dollar amount, and also at a much higher rate (a bit over 10% when it should be something like 8.7%). However, I used Paypal and on that screen the total price was closer to correct (i.e. they taxed the discounted dollar amount, but they also charged a higher tax rate than they should have). I may drop them a line about the tax discrepancy even though it’s only a few bucks. They must be using some kind of minor league tax software in their system and they probably should hear that it’s not doing its job. I hadn’t heard of this outfit before and then was surprised to see Ram Tool & Supply Co on the Paypal invoice. Thanks to Stuart for the heads up on the sale!

A few dollars are a few dollars.
I’ll drop my contact a note to see if they can shed light on this.

This is potentially a pretty big deal if it is the case they’ve been overcharging in certain situations. I don’t think I’ve ever purchased from them but if I had I would be looking up old invoices right now (if you do, keep in mind your local tax rate may have been different at the time of purchase).
JR Ramos
Certainly could be. I guess the crux would be whether they are remitting the full amount to the states or only the correct amount. In case of the former I think states have provisions to just pocket the excess. I don’t think I’m curious enough to go ask our tax folks. For me, it balanced out nicely today when I bought I Gerstner tool chest and had the nice surprise of not being charged tax (by the vendor anyway…it’s still technically on me).

I’m betting TTI covered the cost of the promotion; reimbursing / crediting International a specific amount for Milwaukee sales with the promo ending when the amount was reached. If that were the case, some (many? most?) states would consider the taxable amount as the “pre-discount” price. My state, and I believe several others, defines the sale price of an item as what the merchant receives instead of what the customer pays; usually not an important distinction except when manufacturer compensation comes into play and it’s not always easy to tell when that is occurring.
Tldnr: manufacturer coupon taxed, store coupon not
Stanton
On second thought, that doesn’t explain why International is apparently the ONLY merchant on the entire world wide web who is doing this.

Checkout glitch?
I’ve seen tax calculation oddities at other online retailers before.
I don’t know if it still happens, but Zoro used to show inaccurate tax amounts at checkout, and I would later receive accurate invoices and receipts with the proper amount.
fred
That was indeed true for Zoro . I remember our bookkeeper telling us that a 25% or 30% off deal on some big purchase wasn’t exactly that – then coming back and saying it had been corrected.
But I think that I’ve bought from International Tool (a trademark of Ram Tool & Supply Co.) and think that their before-discount sales tax calculation stuck.

Is it over?
Stuart
Yes.

Thanks for the heads-up. I saved 315 bucks on an M12 propress tool. I’ve been looking for a sale for the past year, and this was the cheapest it got.
Big Richard
To any fellow mid-westerners, Fleet Farm has 15% off sale of their own. It is only for online pickup orders of $150 or more with code MERRY15. Doesn’t stack with other promos, but does work with sale prices.
M18 air compressor is on sale for $299, with the 15% off its $254.15 in my cart.
