Over at Olight, their latest LED flashlight, the Baton 3 Pro, is on sale as part of an introductory flash sale.
The Olight Baton 3 Pro delivers up to 1500 lumens and features a built-in 18650 rechargeable battery.
It measures just 3.99″ long, making it a good size for handheld use, pocket carry, or convenient placement in a tool bag or drawer.

The Baton 3 Pro comes with a magnetic tailcap charging cable (you’ll need a USB-A charging adapter), pouch, and compact steel bracket for magnetic docking that installs with 3M double-sided tape.
Compared to its predecessor, the S2R Baton II, the new Baton 3 Pro is brighter, has an improved side switch button, a longer two-way pocket clip, and a hidden proximity sensor.
The effect of the proximity sensor is slight, so much so that it took me a few minutes of testing to notice it. This is a safety measure to avoid the flashlight overheating in your pocket due to inadvertent activation. There’s also a built-in lockout function which requires a >2 second press.
There are two versions (cool white and neutral white) and 3 colors – black, desert tan, olive green.
The neutral white already sold out. I have a cool white for testing, and ordered two more to gives as gifts.
I prefer neutral white flashlights and broad emitters for close-up use. For a flashlight like this, which can be dimmed down for close-up use but excel at medium to longer distances, I prefer cool white. The CRI is 70.

In my opinion, look at the bundle deals first – there are a couple where you can get an i3E, imini Red, or Gober black – small lights – for just $1 more. (I went for the i3E, an excellent mini keychain-sized AAA light.)
If the Baton 3 Pro doesn’t perfectly suit your needs, check back next month – Olight holds regular flash sales that feature different products each time.

Olight does a good job and this light looks pretty compelling. I know the convention is to advertise peak output and max runtime, but the more valuable number for me is that they claim 177 minutes at 600 lumens. That’s pretty darn good for a light this size.
Also, a choice of color temperature is a nice touch. I might prefer a neutral white.
I’m on the fence if I should get one or not though:
– An I3E is my EDC because it’s so compact I can forget I have it (I pocketed it for a long time, but recently put it on my keychain instead).
– I use an S1R when I know I’ll want more light but still want something pocket-friendly.
– Currently my larger light is a Nitecore EC4S (2150 max brightness that uses 2 x 18650) – which is a very comfortable shape and size.
I feel like the “hole” in my lineup is that my lights all cast relatively wide beams. Might be nice to have something that’s more of a “thrower”. Any Olight recommendations for that?

Olight has higher power spotlights, but with larger size and heftier price tags.
Most of their pocketable lights seem to fit the multi-use EDC-style profile, but their “tactical” described lights will throw a tighter central beam.

I have a S2R Baton II and while I did like the light, I did not like the charging, as it requires a special (magnetic) cable. I prefer a USB-C cable as (a) I already have multiple devices that use that; and (b) you can get a faster charge using a USB-C charge bank or wall wart.
So I have been purchasing Sofirn Flashlights (sofirnlight.com). Before I say more – yes they are made in China (so that’s a big negative). But I own 3 of them right now and I couldn’t be happier with them (except for the COO). The SC31Pro is closest to the Baton 3 Pro: 2000 lumens; 18650 Battery; 4.6 inches long; IPX8; Full Charge: 2.5 hrs; programmable Anduril 2.0 User Interface; sale priced at $27.49 + $3.99 shipping.
The Anduril User Interface allows you to control how the switch works, want to have the light slowly ramp up and down – no problem; want to have 3 discreet (programmable) brightness levels – no problem.
I lost one of these in the snow and 2 months later found it. It turned right on and works fine!

Yes but it means an extra proprietary cable. The SC31Pro uses the same cable as my tablet, phone and headlamp. When I go hiking I carry my phone, SC31Pro, headlamp and a 5000 mAh charging bank and 1 6″ Usb-C to Usb-C cable.
However you slice it the OLight needs the extra cable that doesn’t work with anything else.

Sofirn makes some great lights. The SP10 runs on regular aa or 14500 li-ion. The pro version uses that Anduril 2 interface. Those are two good gateway lights for people who picture a maglight when talking about flashlights.

James+C, I also own the SD01 6000 Lumen Scuba Diving Light which is both awesome and a beast. When I need a super bright floodlight this is it. The also make a 10000 Lumen version that right now only costs about $10 more.

interesting – how is the beam pattern and distance? I wish instead of lumens they would all report Lux with a distance and pattern. but I’m used to transportation lighting specs so I know I’m odd. a number of lumens doesn’t actually represent much.
seems like a nifty light – as did the last baton but I’ve never really considered one. I’m a headlamp fan at this point but that’s also not really an EDC sort of thing. would be nice if they had a new right angle lamp

Medium-size spot with soft flood radius beyond it. I haven’t tested for distance yet, but it should work well for medium-long distances.

The Perun is an interesting light. It’s supposed to be a headlamp, but I use it handheld exclusively.

Try the SoFirn SC31Pro light (sofirnlight.com). It meets or beats the Olight specs and cost 2/3rds. USB-C charging.

My most used light from them is the OBulb. It is water proof (throw it in the pool), magnetic and its survived many a drop. It is not a 1500 lumen light, it just is a soft glow. But when you’re doing electrical work at the top of a ladder in shadows, just stick it to either the ladder or another electrical box and it throws a nice soft light. I actually like it better for this than a headlamp because it lights up the whole area evenly rather than being really bright in the middle and dark everywhere else.

I just received the Batan 3 Pro today to add to the collection of Olight’s( thanks Stuart for getting me hooked!). I’m liking the size, a little smaller that the Warrior 2 mini which I consider about the largest I will EDC.
