Porter Cable has recently announced a new heavy-duty circular saw (PC15TCSMK). The new saw has been developed with an improved weight distribution and balance for greater comfort and better handling. There are a few other enhancements that make this a pro-level tool, including a lighter cast magnesium shoe, 10-foot high-grade cord, 15-amp 5600RPM motor, integrated dust […]
If you recall, we reviewed the Craftsman Mitermate a few months ago. Afterwards, the question in everyone’s minds was: how well does it perform compared to an ordinary miter saw? For the answer to this, check out my comparative review over at Popular Mechanics! Craftsman Mitermate vs. Dewalt DW713 Miter Saw via Popular Mechanics Craftsman Mitermate […]
This Wilton 6-1/2″ Light Duty Woodworking Vise is on sale over at Woodcraft for a mere $10. Standard shipping (at least to my east coast address) is quite reasonable at $7.
It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Woodpeckers Woodworking Precision Tools. Many of their tools and accessories are novel designs, and are extremely well made (here in the USA). To help inspire last minute entries to our $50 gift card giveaway, following are the five tools at the top of my own Woodpeckers wishlist.
You may have noticed a drop in the number of posts here on ToolGuyd, and there’s a good reason for that. Aside from working on a few new reviews, I had been reading up on how to build a small CNC machine.
ZipWall’s flasgship dust barrier and lower cost steel ZipPole systems are used to put up plastic barriers to control and contain dust during indoor home improvement projects. These poles are extendable and spring-loaded to effortlessly hold plastic sheeting in place. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the two systems is that the lower […]

Ridgid’s oscillating edge belt and spindle sander (EB4424) is an example of a somewhat gimmicky design that is done right. This 2-in-1 sander can be used to sand both straight edges and curves, and features a 4″ x 24″ belt and set of five sanding drums.
I don’t know what is going on in this photo, but clearly someone got a little too carried away with expanding foam insulation. This is NOT how you waterproof a bathtub! Well, not everyone is cut out for DIY home improvement. Spotted on There, I Fixed It, a website that aggregates kludges and disasters like […]
Huot’s USA-made drill bit indexes are about the best that you could find. Good quality bit sets typically come with a case, sometimes a Huot one like this, but there are times when smaller bit sets must be consolidated or flimsy and broken cases replaced. Not only does a good case like these keep drill […]
Today I will be reviewing my first shopping experience at ChadsToolbox. I have mostly heard good things about Chad’s, and figured it was time to check them out for myself. ChadsToolbox specializes in carrying quality European brands, such as Knipex and Wera, and several domestic brands. Details follow, but for the impatient I’ll cut to the chase – […]
This awesome mating nut and bolt wedding band set by Kiley Granberg is perfect for hardcore DIYer couples that want to show the world what they’re about. Even if not worn in public, this set would still be a heck of a display piece.
Earlier this month I spotted a Henry vacuum at a hotel, which suggests that there may be an affordable distributor of these powerful little vacuums in the USA. If this turns out to be the case, hopefully they can be powered by our 110V outlets.

Every now and then I come across a woodworking workbench so beautifully made, so inspiring, that my jaw just drops in amazement. What’s better than a well-crafted and functional workbench? A detailed and well described workbench project log, such as Darnell Hagen’s over at his blog The Way I Wood!
A few days ago, we talked a bit about Woodpeckers’ new shelf pin drilling jig. Since then, I remembered that Lee Valley sells a similar system by Veritas, and decided that a comparison was in order.
