Philips EnergySaver Marathon Dimmable Bulb Recall

Normally we only mention tool or home improvement-related recalls, but this one caught our attention due to the number of products recalled – 1.86 million. Certain Philips EnergySaver and Marathon Classic Compact Fluorescent dimmable reflector lamps with model numbers R30, R40, and PAR38 that were manufactured between March 2007 and May 2010 are included in the recall.

The glass outer envelops or globes pose a laceration hazard when the glue attaches them to the body of the lamps fail. If the glue fails, the glass piece can fall and strike a person standing below. To date there have been 700 reports of glue failure, with 2 reports of injury and 3 reports of minor property damage.
