Porter Cable has come out with a couple of new 18V cordless tools in recent months, and the ones we’ve tried have not disappointed. Moving forward, it looks like Porter Cable will be marketing all new pro-oriented lithium ion-powered tools under their newly launched 20V Max branding.

We have been waiting for Porter Cable to follow Black & Decker and Dewalt’s 20V Max branding shifts for some time now. Obvious consistency benefits aside, there seems to have been a need to differentiate Porter Cable’s lower-priced Ni-Cd offerings from their more pro-oriented Li-ion products. We don’t yet know if Porter Cable will maintain separate 18V and 20V Max lineups, but both lines will be maintained in parallel at least short-term.
The new 20V Max tool line will launch with just two tools, a drill/driver and an impact driver. Supporting the two tools will be a 1.5Ah battery pack and 40-minute charger.
Additional tools will be added to the line later on in 2013. From the following sneak-peek silhouette, it looks like we’ll be seeing a 20V angle grinder cut-off tool, circular saw, and what could be an LED worklight.
Every of the major brands have a distinct marketing direction for their cordless platforms. For example, Milwaukee offers nothing but heavy duty, and Dewalt products are guaranteed tough. Porter Cable’s new 20V line is said to offer the speed, ergonomics, ease of use, and value demanded on any jobsite. Sounds like a good motto to us.
