Porter Cable just announced a new lineup of compact 12V Max lithium ion cordless power tools. Hot on the heels of Dewalt’s own unveilings, the new line of tools are intended to offer durability and great performance in compact and lightweight packages. The tools are designed for contractors, trade professionals, woodworkers, and hobbyists.
There will be three new tools included in the initial launch, a 3/8″ drill/driver, 1/4″ hex impact driver, and a neat looking ClampSaw meant for medium duty sawing. A fourth tool kit will include the 3/8″ drill/driver and impact driver. The tools seem to offer decent specs while being pretty affordably priced.

We’ll take a closer look at the three new 12V tools in days to come. The tools will hit stores in October 2010, right in time for the holiday shopping season.

The drill/driver looks really good, I much prefer that form factor over the heavy square battery on the bottom. I’ve got a 12V craftsman nextec drill that I love, but if it ever kicks the bucket I think I’ll be looking at that PC or the Milwakee M12 version next.

Sigh…the manufacturers always seems to come out with a new tool just after I make my purchase for the same type. It will be interesting to see how the specs compare to my Bosch.

I also prefer that compact battery over the square one.
I assume it’s 10.8 nominal volts like the Bosch.

I think I used “nominal” incorrectly.
Should be 12v nominal, 10.8 actual.
I couldn’t find the specs on the PC site. I guess they are too new.

I love all the new porter cable tools I’m a diy I purchased the new heavy duty cicular saw and love it it cuts like butter I also have the 18 volt hammer drill and impact driver and they are every bit professional quality with reasonable price for the diy and if your a pro you won’t be going under gunned all I know it just as powerful if not more than my brothers makita impact and hammer drill and the saw I think is nicer than his makita so all you people who were concerned about the quality of porter cable because B&D decided to make them more for the diy don’t you will be pleasantly suprized on the quality for the buck.
