Lots of great little items on here – that fast cap tape has become my goto. It has nice contrast and I really like the labeled markings. The brake and pencil sharpener are handy.

I like the FastCap tape measure as well. I like that it has a surface right on the tape you can use to keep notes on. A pencil writes on it pretty good, and it can be erased and used over and over. After a while you will need to clean it up good, but it is really handy. How many times have you had to remember 2 or 3 different measurements at the same time, and had to hunt down a piece of paper or scrap of wood to write it down on. Being able to have the measurements right on the tape is really handy.
Also works good to do simple math on, as well. When I was younger I could do math in my head pretty well, but not so much any more. Even has the pencil sharpener built in.

Oh, and I might add, they have my favorite belt clip of any tape measure, as well.

You can even buy replacement stickers when the side gets too used to write on! Love the FastCap!

As a southpaw, Fast Cap tapes are my go-to as well.
I really like this smaller 16ft size because most of the time you don’t need a full 25ft. Kinda weird that Amazon offers it (at a slightly greater discount) as a “subscribe and save” option, with every 4 months being the most common. I’m not as hard on a tape measure as I once was, but replacing one every 4 months?

Does anyone have a longer field experience how the Dewalt/Irwin quick lift compare to the original?

I have a Viking and could use another one.
I really like the quality and it is build like tank and it feels like a tool bought for life as it should be imho.

Herron version looks pretty close too.

    Thank you.

Back on Sep 14, 2024, a ToolGuyd reader (Matt) said this about the Viking Arm.

“None of the knock offs, that I know of, enable you to slowly release the jack load softly, one step at a time. This lack of adjustment limits the usefulness of the clamp. I bought the Dewalt version which I think is superior to all of them, including Viking and I use it to raise one side of a heavy laboratory instrument and then use the soft release to lower it back down to the counter. The Instrument is $60,000 so I don’t want to drop it.”

For me – I have both versions and also like the way the Dewalt handle works better. IIRCC – it also distinguishes the Dewalt from the Irwin.

“Kershaw Bel Air Folding Knife – Made in USA – I didn’t know that Kershaw introduced to a side lock like this one”

I believe they are called cross-bar locks, or axis-style locks. Never heard them called side locks before.

Sorry, I forgot the term. Benchmade Axis-ripoff seemed impolite. Every brand now has their own and special phrasing for it. Kershaw’s is a “DuraLock.”

But yes, “crossbar lock” is the correct general term. I always forget it, and default to “Benchmade-type sliding springy side button.” When shortened, it came out as “side lock.” Thanks, I’ll make the fix!

FastCap makes some great products, and I swear by that tape measure. They also may some specialty tapes that can handle a variety of tasks. Glad to see others giving them some love!

Question, Stuart: I’ve used your links to specific items before, but do you get credit if I buy something else after following one of your links? Id dar prefer giving you credit when I buy on Amazon than not…

FastCap has a lot of good products, besides the tape measures. Just off the top of my head, I also use their glubot and band edge trimmer.

Sometimes/usually yes, but don’t feel you have to go out of the way.
