Reader Tool Picks 10-17-2025

Here’s a look at the more notable tools that readers bought from Amazon this week.

As has been the case recently, there are a lot of familiar tools, but also some new ones that I haven’t seen before.

I always find it interesting to see and hear about what you’ve been buying and trying, and hope this series of posts do the same for you.

Dewalt 20V Max XR Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit
Klein 2-in-1 Utility Knife and Scraper – this works differently from the ToughBuilt, but is smaller and compatible with standard blades
Wera Mini Bit-Holding Screwdriver Handle – ESD-safe with non-magnetic bit holder, sometimes the other versions are more economical unless you have a preference
Canary Non-Stick Safety Package Opener – this is the same one I use nearly every day
Irwin Long Nose Pliers with Wire Cutter

Vaughan Dual Face Hammer – I have other sizes and have always been happy with them
Duck HD Clear Packing Tape Refills – Price seems decent, maybe I’ll switch over from 3M/Scotch for a bit
Motion Pro T-Handle Metric Socket Set
Klein Mini Diagonal Flush Cutters (Made in USA)

Streamlight Stylus LED Penlight (3 AAAA Batteries) – I find the Streamlight Stylus Pro and its 2x AAA batteries to be more convenient, but it’s not as slender
Victorinox Rambler Swiss Army Knife
Uniball Impact Gel Pen 4-Pack – I might try these too
Gedore 1/4″ Square to 1/4″ Hex Bit Socket Adapter – can never have enough of these

Knipex 6-1/4″ Long Nose Pliers with Cutter – looks like a compact and handy size
Snappy 5pc Countersink Drill Bit Set (Made in USA) – one-step pre-drilling and countersinking in wood
CRC General Purpose Food Grade Machine Oil Spray
Williams 8-inch Slip Joint Pliers

Engineers Screw Extractor Pliers – great tool with grippy jaws, no you’re not getting a 3-pack for the price
Wera Pozidri Mini-Check Screwdriver Bit Pack
Tajima 7/8″ Endura Snap Blade 10-Pack – is this a good choice for a 7/8″ snap blade knife?
Vessel Low-Profile Flat Screwdriver Bit Ratchet Set – this style is cheap but functional

Knipex Crimping Pliers for Wire Ferrules
Toggler Snaptoggle Heavy Duty Drywall Toggle Bolts – I like these much better than traditional plug-style anchors
Festool Folding Ruler
Tekton 1/4″ Square to 1/4″ Hex Screwdriver Bit Socket Adapter – this one’s different from the Gedore linked to above, do you prefer a magnet (like this one) or ball lock (like the Gedore)?

Dewalt ToughCase Tool Box (Empty)
Dewalt 14pc Drill Bit Set – $12.99 (not as good as last year, but still an excellent value)
WorkPro 21pc Mini Bit Ratchet Set
Fiskars PowerArc 8″ Shop Shears

Occidental Leather No Slap Hammer Holder (Made in USA) – I’ve never seen this before, it looks pricey, but convenient
Anker USB Wired Vertical Computer Mouse
Occidental Leather Clip-On Tape Measure Holder (Made in USA)
Flexzilla Pro Air Hose Reusable Splicer – neat idea for field repair of compatible Flexzilla air hoses

Magpul DAKA Can Protective Container (Sunglasses and Similar Case) – might be good for premium safety glasses
Klein Tools 7-in-1 Flip Sockets
Rite in the Rain Waterproof Spiral Notebooks – great brand, I haven’t seen this size before
Rite in the Rain All-Weather Adhesive Pen and Card Holder – I wonder if this can also be used for penlights

Knipex 5-inch Cobra Adjustable Pliers – great choice!
Roll Up Tool Bag
Klein Tools 18pc Color Coded Ball End Hex Key Sets
Klein Tools Conduit Bender

Wago Lever Nuts 22pc Assortment Kit – fantastic electrical connectors (in my experience); I was going to comment about the price before realizing this is the larger version for up to 10 AWG wire
Woodpeckers Rout-N-Plane Bench Top Board Mill XL
Ultra-Shear Surfacing Router Bit
Klein 11-in-1 Multi-Bit Screwdriver

From Recent Posts

Kizer Uti Bear Halloween EDC Utility Knife
Klein Ball Handle Screwdriver – includes double-ended bit and works with 1/4″ hex power bits
Veitorld 12-in-1 Survival Tool Set – again, I would NOT buy this
Workpro 8″ Long Nose Slip Joint Pliers – I bought one too, it’s still on the way

I have both the Klein and the Toughbuilt utility knife/scrapers. Thought I’d mention that the toughbuilt uses one blade (that swivels) for both the knife and scraper, and blade changes are tool-free. The Klien uses a separate blade for the knife and scraper. The knife blade is tool-free but changing the scraper blade requires a screwdriver. The Toughbuilt requires their own blades with a special cut out, the Klein uses standard blades.
Between them, I prefer the Klein by a slim margin. The Toughbuilt might actually be a better scraper, but the Klein is a better knife. One thing I have run into with the Toughbuilt is that often when I swivel the blade over to scraper use, half of it is sharp (new edge) and half is dull because I was using it as a knife and dulled or even chipped the edge. The Klein having separate blades does not have that issue.
I have both the Vessel slim profile ratcheting screwdriver as well as the Workpro (bought through a link through ToolGuyd. The Vessel works well, and the handle holds 2 spare bits quite nicely. Works in places even a stubby can’t fit. The WorkPro is actually more convenient to use because it is easier to hold on to and has a hand knurl so you can use your fingers to snug the screw. The Vessel is a bit harder to hold on to moslty because it is made small (almost tiny) to fit tight spaces. Overall quality seems about equal between the two, they were just built for different purposes.
Going through these lists you are putting up, I’m reminded how many tools I have bought because they were featured/recommended by ToolGuyd.
    Keep up the good work.

Thanks! Sorry, I forgot that the Klein has separate holders. I guess that’s the tradeoff for standard/universal blade compatibility.

There’s also the Komelon, which requires proprietary blades like ToughBuilt’s. https://toolguyd.com/komelon-utility-knife-scraper/

The Tajima LC 650 style I’ve had 20ish years. Works great, has 1″ blades though. The tool store near me only has 1 in blade replacements .
