Werner Aluminum Multi-Functional Ladder

Earlier this year, Werner recalled 5 models of aluminum multi-functional ladders, model MT-IAA. Affected sizes range from MT-IAA-13A to MT-IAA-26A.

The ladders were voluntarily recalled due to a fall hazard. There was one injury reported, after the ladder failed during use.

Look for the date code, which can be found on the inside of one outer leg, towards the bottom. If it says 121744XX or 011844XX, your ladder is included in the recall, and should be returned for a refund.

Affected models were sold between April and May 2018, at Home Depot and Lowes stores. There are 5 models included in the recall, in 13′, 17′, 22′, and two 26′ sizes.

More Info(via CPSC)

I recently bought one of these ladders, about two weeks ago, MT-IAA-22A, and it has a 061844 date code. If you buy one soon (it’s on sale for the holidays), be sure to check the date code.

I have a knock off of a Keter i believe. It weighs like 100 pounds. Really is like carrying 5 ladders

I bought one of the Werner aluminum multi function ladders in 2013. I think it’s the 22ft model. Anyway, for being all-aluminum, it weighs something like 70lbs. It’s frickin heavy!

    Thank you for sharing.

I have that exact one in the picture from a couple years ago.

Curious what the failed component / failure was, because “the ladder may break” does tell us much.

It’s been updated recently, with this being a “new lightweight” model with higher load rating. Maybe there was a defect in the first batch? Or something that they were able to add a QC check for afterwards?

I really regretted getting this ladder years ago. It was heavy to move around, cumbersome to extend, and space consuming to store. Should have gotten 2 ladders that were much lighter, made for specific purposes, and easier to store.

I bought mine because I needed an extension ladder I could transport home quickly, and I figured I could use it as a tall stepladder later on. Looks like it’ll be a tall stepladder and a “I didn’t know I needed to do that” solution for when things come up.

I forgot about its advantage for transportation. The ladder is definitely useful for different reaches as a stepladder. The one time I tried to use it as an extension ladder, it was so heavy it was unwieldy. I got a stabilizer, too, but never really used it as an extension ladder.

These ladders do one thing really well. They adjust to be set up on stairs or angled surfaces. Past that, their ability to fold down to a small size compared to their extended length is impressive too. Can you think of another ladder that’ll do 13ft that you can put in the trunk of a car? Downside, as everyone has said, is they’re HEAVY for their size. I have one that usually only gets used when it’s needed, and for that it’s great.

Ecotek, I’ve seen the Telescoping ladder on the market for a while now. I’ve been looking for an excuse to get one to add to my arsenal of SUV friendly equipment. Not sure what all situations I’d trust being up on one though…probably only if I needed to climb up and inspect something?!?

little giant is hard to beat. got it while costco had on sale, has wheels to cart around which I can load up with boxes of cable perfectly and its welded rather than rivets. Fits in my jetta with seats down.
