Ridgid 18V Drill Impact Driver Combo Deal 122014

Over at Home Depot, today’s deal of the day for 12/5/2014 is this Ridgid 18V drill and impact combo set, which isĀ on sale for $149.

Both are compact tools with powerful torque ratings. The drill/driver, with a 1/2″ chuck, is rated at 535 in-lbs peak torque, and the impact driver at 1750 in-lbs. They’re the same tools you get as part of Ridgid’s 3-tool drill, impact driver, and jobsite radio combo, which normally sells for $199.

I think that $149 is a good price for what you get. If you’re only interested in one tool over the other, the separate Ridgid 18V drill and impact driver kits are $99 each.

This deal ends at 4am ET on 12/6/2014, unless supplies run out sooner.

I think these drills are fantastic for the price, especially if you don’t want to invest in an expensive 18V lineup. I made the mistake of investing in an 18V Makita lineup before I got the Ridgid 18v, but I am not a contractor and realize that the future cost of replacing batteries, etc., make it pretty expensive. After I discovered the power and variety of Milwaukee 12V tools, I realized I don’t need to spend tons of money on a set of 18V tools. However, it is nice to have some of the “staples” (like a drill) in 18V, and this Ridgid set is fantastic for that purpose.

Ridgid also has some other basic power tools to add to the set, but not a lot of specialty tools. They also released a nice looking work light. I also have an 18V jobmax which fits nicely in the soft case that comes with the 2 drill/radio set. It’s an extremely portable set of tools and is my go-to set for working around the house.

I would *strongly* suggest buying the set with the radio. I don’t know if the 2 drill/radio set will drop from $200 to $175 again, but the radio is worth $50 to me. In fact, I use that radio more than anything. It is *much* more compact than competitor’s (and ridgid’s) full-size models, which means you can store it with the drills. The sound is great, and the volume level is more than enough. The only thing that worries me is the built-in 1/4″ auxiliary cord that hangs out about 5 inches. It is not long enough to let your phone rest on the ground, but there is a strap to hold it to the back. Mine still hasn’t had a problem after a year, but eventually it will because with these cords it’s just a matter of time. It would be better if it had a port which required a separate 1/4″ male to 1/4″ male, but oh well – some of the competitor’s even have these built-in, hanging cords on their $150 radios.

If you’re looking for a new cordless drill and impact set, I strongly suggest the 18V Ridgid or the 12V Milwaukee!
