Home Depot Ridgid WD1636 Shop Vacuum Black Friday 2014 Deal

Over at Home Depot, today’s deal of the day features a couple of wet/dry shop vacuums. One of the standouts is this Ridgid WD1636 vac, which was last winter’s Black Friday model. It’s on sale again, at least for today.

Ridgid is quite popular in the wet/dry vacuum market, and often goes head-to-head against Shop Vac and Craftsman consumer models. Personally, I prefer Craftsman vacs at the sub-$100 price point, but I have nothing against this model.

A lot of folks who bought this during the winter holiday season have left reviews on Home Depot’s product page, and most are quite positive. There are some negative ones, though, but overall it seems that a strong majority of owners are pleased with their purchase.

When I look at these “special buy” vacuums, I look at the hose size and length of the power cord. When a company cuts corners with a short power cord, that’s a sign that the rest of the vac might have been cheapified. A 15-foot power cord is a good sign.

The hose is 7-feet long and with 1-7/8″ diameter. While this isn’t as common a size as 2-1/2″ for heavy duty vacs, at least it’s not 1-1/4″. There are plenty of optional 1-7/8″ accessories out there, and you can probably add your own 2-1/2″ hose if you want a larger and longer hose. Suction performance might take a small hit, but hopefully not by much.

Features & Specs

  • 16-gallon tank
  • 5.0 peak HP motor
  • 7 ft x 1-7/8″ hose
  • 2 extension wands, utility nozzle, pleated paper filter
  • 15 ft power cord
  • blower port
  • casters
  • integrated handles
  • built-in drain

The sale price is $50, and the vac is available at this price all day today only (5/20/2015), unless it sells out.

Buy Now(via Home Depot)

Update: Sold out (for now?). Thanks Patric for the heads-up!

For those of you that bought this Ridgid vacuum back in November or December, would you recommend it?

I bought this vacuum at its original $80 price point a year ago, but I returned it for the $100 6 hp combo car kit. I guess this is a good deal if you only want the one suction attachment and the weird hose size. If you are looking at needing any kinds of attachment then go for the one I got. You will have the longest combined hose imaginable, tons of attachments for various jobs and the two most common hose sizes.

The adapter to 2.5 inches is $9 by itself.

Not a bad deal,I picked this one up on black friday. I think it was like $38 then. Considering the smaller 12 gallon is usally like $40 this is a good deal still.

I took a look at the parts situation (ereplacementparts.com) and the parts catalog states things like the motor are not available. How can they have warranty support if the parts are no longer made?
