Over in a recent Ryobi new tools teaser, Matt E commented about an 18V One+ accessory I hadn’t seen before – a lanyard that connects to Ryobi cordless tools’ battery connection port.
A little bit of Googling turns up that it’s not a new product, but was made over in current Ryobi colors. Still, it’s something I hadn’t seen before. It also doesn’t look to be available in the USA at the moment.

If you MUST have one, there’s an Amazon 3rd party seller who has them priced at $18 and change each. Over in Australia, they’re $13 AUD for (2), which comes out to around $10.35 USD, or around $5.18 USD each.

I bought a few of these way back when color was still blue. It seems they stopped selling these and the battery charge indicators that you could put on the 18v batteries before they had the gauge built in.
They do work quite well if you can find them!

I’ve 3D-printed something similar to mount my Makitas to the underside of a shelf using the battery slot, but this is pretty slick. I may have to steal the idea when I get back to reworking my shop.

It appears this battery connection lanyard is for storage only. It would be nice to have a a lanyard that can be used while the battery is attached to the tool, so you could use the tool and have the lanyard attached to say a ladder!

I had a few of the old blue color that came with the older power tools
I trashed them the first time one disconnected from the drill I had attached to my tool belt and smashed me in the foot. I then took them apart and saved the strap with snap hook for hand wrench. Looks good but must remove battery and then make sure it’s plugged firmly into the tool. Back then most tools did not have a belt clip.

I have some of the old blue ones, but then made my own from old Ryobi batteries that I scavenged from the battery recycling bins at Home Depot. Remove the old dead cells, put the shell back together, drill a hole through it for some string, and you’re done.
I’ve also seen on Pinterest someone who did almost the same thing, but instead of hanging them, he drilled the battery casings onto a board and would then literally click his tools onto the wall. Pretty slick.

These lanyards were available in old Ryobi Blue Colour in Western Australia, then they disappeared.
I managed to buy the old colour from the States. (6 to 8 years ago)
The reason was twofold =-(1) to hang up the tools (2) To stop our local Wasps for building mud nests in my tools.
PS Ryobi should not discontinue good products

I don’t really see the purpose of these? They might have been nice for hanging on your belt, but they take up a battery slot. That means you can’t have a tool ready to use without having to switch out a battery. Plus, most tools come with a belt clip anyways.
It seems their only use is for storage. For that there are several other cheaper and better options available. As “cool” as it would look having all my tools danging from lanyards, I would rather just use pegboard with hooks or build my own storage out of wood. At $5 a piece I would need to buy over $100 in lanyards alone.

I love them and wish I could get more. I bought a six pack from Home Depot in OKC years ago. I have a tool wall where I hang all my Ryobi tools . . . I have about 10 of them and need more lanyards!
