Ryobi-Tek4-System

Ryobi designed their Tek4 cordless electronic tools around a nifty (and affordable) 4V lithium-ion rechargeable battery system. Ryobi’s main selling point is that use of this system will save on costs and waste compared to using traditional AA-based tools.

Products available as part of the Tek4 system:

  • digital camera
  • laser distance measuring tool
  • noise suppression headphones
  • IR thermometer
  • self-leveling laser
  • motion-sensing alarm
  • digital multimeter
  • high intensity flashlight
  • portable power source
  • digital key lockbox
  • standard and rapid battery chargers

Work. Weather. Life. is the motto of the Tek4 system, but the introductory video clip places emphasis on how many AA batteries one could save if they use the Tek4 system instead.

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about the Tek4 product line after seeing the display at the store, so I will avoid sharing my impression of it for the time being.

Ryobi Tek4 tools are available (exclusively) at The Home Depot.

I was wondering if rechargeable batteries would do the job of the 4v pack… what is the difference?

So…are your mixed feeling about a specific tool or the combo?
Or is it about the battery?
    please let me know!
    thanks

Comparing different battery types (Li-Ion, NiMH, alkaline) is a can of worms that I would prefer to not open.

I’m still trying to sort through my hands-off impression of the Tek4 tool system, so I won’t go into too much detail just yet. My mixed feelings are in regard to whether some of the Tek4 tools are recommendable.

Ryobi is not a beginner when it comes to cordless tools and battery systems, so I have no doubt that the battery aspect will be top-notch. Well, at least as top-notch as a mid-level brand will provide, of course.

In short, my mixed feelings are in regard to the tools themselves. Once I’ve given this a bit more thought, a new detailed editorial will be posted about the matter.
