Select Milwaukee Packout products are now available in black in the USA!
By “select,” I mean the Packout tumblers, and… no, it’s just the tumblers.
That feeling of your heart rising and then sinking? It’s shared by many. I thought this could have been a late April Fool’s Day joke, but it’s not; the Milwaukee Packout tumblers are indeed launching in black.

Milwaukee offers Packout in a black colorway in Europe. Here in the USA, Milwaukee Packout products are only offered in red as the primary color.
We’re NOT getting black Packout tool boxes. Yet? Maybe the tumblers are a first step towards blacked-out Packout tool boxes and organizers.
Still, I’m sure there are some that appreciate being able to buy the Packout tumblers in black.

The 20oz tumbler, model 48-22-8392B, is priced at $29.97, the same as the red 20oz.

The 30oz tumbler, 48-22-8393B, is $34.97, the same as with the red 30oz.
As with the red tumblers, these have a twist-to-lock Packout interface on the bottom, double-wall insulation, and lid with rotating magnetic closure.

The tumblers are dishwasher safe.

Heh I get to go to Rome next week and the temptation to try to find someone to swap a red packout for a black or just buy one is moderately high …
Adam
Buy, clearly.
You’re gonna buy more anyway, so why trade what you already own, lol.
TomD
Mainly that I’m using one as a suitcase, and I could replace it and bring back on the plane – (shipping these things is nearly as expensive as they are to buy)

I have the red 20oz Milwaukee tumbler 48-22-8392R and the red powder coat is peeling and chipping all over. I called Milwaukee Canada and they said for me to warranty it I have to drive to a service center as they would not send me one.
This is rediculous. I think I might just let it completely peel off and have a stainless steel version.
Joshua
Milwaukee will do whatever they can to weasel out of there warranty. I got a $1100 punch tool off Amazon, it had bad battery and they wouldn’t warranty it because it came from Amazon.
Stuart
That’s always a risk when you don’t buy from authorized dealers.
Bonnie
Especially since Amazon does it’s best to obfuscate the sourcing on a ton of products.
fred
If manufacturers started providing warranty service/replacements for grey/black market purchases, then why would anyone want to be an authorized dealer? As an individual or home-use buyer you might take a chance buying tools that have oddball sources – or have been extracted from combo deals or kits from authorized dealers. They are often priced attractively – but as Stuart says they come with the risk that warranties will not be honored. With some accessories – their boxes might actually be labelled “not for individual sale” or “not for resale” which likely says what the manufacturer thinks about the practice of piecing out their kits.
With Amazon purchases – my thought is that you need to try things out within their warranty period and return it to them if necessary. If that is not practical – or if a failure occurs after the Amazon return date, then you can try other remedies but expect to have to chalk it up to a learning lesson. I’m also wary of some “bargain” battery purchases on Amazon having read complaints about NOS batteries being sold by some third-party vendors. Overall though, considering the sheer volume of sales made via Amazon, IMO they seem to do remarkably well by their customers on average – especially if you can discern what’s the good stuff from the questionable junk. Their usually easy return/refund policies have certainly taken much of the risk out of online buying.
Terry
Very well explained, there’s so much truth in your comment.
FredH
Sorry to hear about your punchout tool. My tumbler was a legit purchase from Home Depot and the warranty is only a hassle because I live in Canada and they don’t want to maintain a full warranty department in Canada. I have heard many stories of people who got burned on warranty from purchases not from Legit Milwaukee retailers. Stay away from Amazon, Ebay. I usually always buy from HomeDepot, MississaugaHardware, BCFasteners, JCcayer, kmstools or OFS
TomD
It’s arguably unethical, but in those cases you can do the “poor man’s warranty” – buy a replacement at Home Depot and return the dead one.
Note: I don’t recommend doing this, and especially not with serialized items; but for hand tools it’s arguably much easier than waiting and shipping.
Robert Mendoza
Thank you for that was planning to buy a light of Milwaukee
fred
I’m not sure if it applies to Packout – but Acme Tools says save $50 on $200+ using code 3PEAT

Adam
it select items, but there are a ton of PackOut items, even the black tumblers
Mxx
Now I won’t need an excuse for “you don’t have to buy everything because it’s red”.
Frank D
I would trade every single packout in red, including 3D accessories and customizations that I have, for the darker version.
Rx9
So, a blackout packout.
Nifty.
Nathan
that would appeal to a large tacticool crowd.
blackout packout or packout blackout. meh.
anyway – if they had that black in the stores here t wouldn’t really differentiate themselves the way the red does. I can see the logic to it to some degree.
Greg
Now if Apple would just make Black AirPods for tradesmen.
Munklepunk
Skin it.
Apple makes great products but they seem to be afraid of color.
Robert
Off topic, but there’s going to be a lot of eye balls on Milwaukee.
KCTool has at least 10% off on German scissors and knives. Some of the Knipex scissors are in the 20 to 30% off range.

I own the red version of this: I strongly recommend not getting it due to the rotating seal on the lid, and if you do want it because of the locking feature, you’re probably going to want to buy a yeti lid. Every time I close the lid after taking a sip coffee flies everywhere, due to the amount of coffee stuck between the rotating section and the plastic top. The lid is interchangeable with the yeti rambler so you can always swap them out, but at that point just buy the rambler. If you want more video proof man caver tools has a video on it (don’t want to link Incase it gets my comment removed)
Jason
Hated that as well, it’s a cool idea but the first time I hit a bump rolling my stack of tool boxes with it clicked in the tumbler popped off and went flying getting scratches and spilling coffee.
Back to Yeti/Stanley. May look into some 3D prints to add the bases. I’d like to have a single mount which I’m sure exists somewhere to add it to the golf cart and be able to click the tumbler in.

We spray painted all of ours flat black including over all the Milwaukee logos to make them less appealing to theft. Taped off the aluminum rails and metal latch hoops to keep the metal on those. They look like ridgid or flex boxes now!

On another note, why hasn’t Ford/GMC/Dodge/Toyota/Nissan worked out some limited edition vehicle options to add pack-outs to their interior back seats/cab/beds?
I mean, decades ago, I was in a CAD/CAM class and thought of all the wasted exterior space on a pickup, and why the sides of the bed couldn’t be more integrated for storage (which look forward and Dodge RAM offers bed wall storage). And I mean more like the READING replacement utility beds but more styled to the truck as OEM.
So Milwaukee, take my suggestion and make an option/deal with some truck makers to incorporate chargers and packout storage. Anyone else agree?
MM
It does sound like the kind of thing an automaker would do and there is plenty of precedence for automakers partnering with a 3rd party company for options on a vehicle.
fred
Sounds like an idea. But while automakers have done cross-branding and special edition vehicles – I’m not sure that they would want the extra warranty and/or liability issues that might come with every 3rd-party add-on. I guess it would require some negotiation between the carmaker and TTI.
Upfitters do take on these sorts of tasks. We had a van that was upfitted (Dejana if I recall correctly) with Sortimo storage. We were not overwhelmed – and did not have go that way again. We concluded that maybe it would have been better for some other trades – not so good for plumbers. Anyway, I’m guessing that you could find an upfitter to work with Packout.

A friend of mine was on the launch team for the Transit at the KC Ford Assembly plant and actually proposed this to the higher-ups . . . who gave it a serious look but decided against it. He tried getting them to use already established products, and/or a whole new Ford-made system and they shot him down on both ideas.

Milwaukee tumblers. Harley Davidson shirts. Have never seen the wisdom of purchasing products because of the logo – the item has to be worth buying. I won’t buy tools from Yeti but I will stick with their coolers and tumblers.
Stuart
There’s unique worker-friendly features and Packout integration, making this more than a simple tumbler with Milwaukee branding.
fred
At least you get some added utility with a Packout tumbler in exchange for giving Milwaukee some advertising exposure while you drink your beverage. I can understand the advertising value behind companies using trademarked color schemes and emblazoning their trademarks on their products. But I was never a fan of paying extra to facilitate that. So, while I might buy a Packout tumbler or M12 heated jacket to get the features that come with those products – if Milwaukee wants me to wear their T-Shirt or hat – the only way that I might consider doing so is if it came as a “free” promotion. For the most part, the free promotional T-Shirts, hats and other garb that we received over the years would be left out in the work-out area for the taking on a first-come-first-served basis – with the understanding that leftovers would go to a local charity.
Charlie_D
Black tumbler… How will I ever find it backstage in the dark?
Al
Glow-in-the-dark tape, of course. Or paint the Milwaukee logo with it.
Eric
These should be available in a variety of colors, just like the Systainers are. Hopefully it’s just a matter of time!
Jeremiah
Why? Red is the only color that anything Milwaukee should come in.
Jeremiah
Anything other than Red Milwaukee Anything is blasphemy.
