Skil’s New Skilsaw – High Performance & Outstanding Value

Skil has just released the new HD5687 Skilsaw, marketing it as the ultimate combination of unmatched performance, lightweight design, and unbeatable value, and is designed to tackle any project at the jobsite. Sounds good to us! The new Skilsaw is priced at $89, placing it right in the middle of Skil’s current circular saw lineup.

First off, we love that this is being marketed as a more value-oriented professional tool. Similar to the premise behind Campbell Hausfeld’s new line of nailers, the HD5687 Skilsaw is intended to be a choice for the cost-conscious users who want to get the job done without sacrificing power and performance. Too often, “value” is associated with few features and low-quality – but not this time!

The HD5687 Skilsaw features a 15A ball bearing motor and boasts a superior power-to-weight ratio to set it apart from other saws in its class. One of the more noticable differences is that this Skilsaw is built with the same handle design as Skil’s worm-drive saws, making it more comfortable to use than other saws in its price range.

The HD5687 also features a 51° bevel capacity with a positive stop at 45°, a “professional” AC-DC power switch designed for longer life, an anti-snag lower guard, a rear view depth adjustment, stamped steel foot plate, spindle lock, and an 8ft power cord. To start you off, Skil includes a 24-tooth carbide-tipped 7 1/4″ blade.

These features – especially the worm-drive-style handle (which is unfortunately obscured in the product image shown above), really make the HD5687 Skilsaw stand out. In today’s economic times where everyone is starting to trim down their tool budgets, it is likely that the HD5687 Skilsaw will find its way into the hands of many professionals and serious DIYers alike.

Skil’s new HD5687 Skilsaw is available online via Amazon, and has already hit the shelves at Lowes.
