We have more tool samples to give away.
I asked for ideas, and there were some great ones – thank you!
Here’s what I settled on: each prize will contain a mixed assortment of tools. Maybe the winners can’t use everything, but hopefully they can use some of the tools and pass long the others.
But, there are still some specialty tools. So, I decided to run another giveaway with a 11/12/2019 end date. I might not be able to fulfill all the prizes right away, but I think a one-week run makes sense. I can get some of the prizes out the door rather quickly.
This way, I can send a duct tool or two towards an HVAC pro who could put the tool to use. Or wire strippers, cutters, and overhead recessed light cutter to an electrician or someone who can use such tools. I also have some tools that are rather basic – perfect for new homeowners who are just starting out.
So, this giveaway is going to be a little different. I want to reduce the chance that any part of a tool prize package will go to waste.
There are prize categories, and you’re going to have to pick (one) first choice, and (one) second choice if you have one.
1) HVAC-focused plus general tools – start your comment entry with “HVAC”
I don’t have a lot of HVAC tools, mainly some duct cutter and notching tools. So, you’d get these plus an assortment of other tools.
2) Electrical-focused plus general tools – start your comment entry with “Electrical”
There are a few electrical work-specific tools, and an assortment of general purpose tools.
3) Beginner homeowner with few tools – start your comment entry with “Beginner”
This prize will have some basic layout tools (e.g. stud finder and laser level), and an assortment of general purpose tools.
4) Give me anything!! – start your comment entry with “Anything”
This is going to be the “gimmick” kit, with things like diamond grit-coated hex keys, LED pliers with coin cell batteries that no longer work, and things like the old Craftsman MaxAxess wrench.
5) Mechanics tool focused plus general tools – start your comment entry with “Wrenching”
This prize will include wrenches, hardware store ratchets, things like that, plus some general purpose tools.
6) Hobbyist and precision tool focused plus general tools – start your comment entry with “Precision”
I have some precision pliers, maybe small screwdrivers, and possibly a Dremel rotary tool or two, plus some other things.
7) Machinist tool focused plus general tools – start your comment entry with “Taps”
This kit will include things like a Tekton tap and die set I purchased for review but never even opened yet, plus some duplicate review samples and some other goodies.
8) General construction, framing, demo tools plus general purpose – start your comment entry with “Construction”
This kit will include things like a milled-face hammer, chalk line, maybe a long tape or longer range layout tools, and an assortment of other tools you might find useful.
9) Mixed bag – if none of the other categories interest you, start your comment entry with “Mystery”
I’m sure to have some more tools you might find interesting.
IMPORTANT – Let’s say your first choice is general construction tools and your second choice a mixed bag. Your comment would then start with “Construction, Mystery” and then your normal entry will begin. I will ignore any comment that doesn’t start with at least one category.
My goal is to make sure these tools go to good hands and homes.
If you want to write back with a review or reviews on the tools after you’ve used them a bit, that’s great! But there are no strings attached.
Old review samples, purchased samples, unsolicited arrivals, duplicates, and other circumstances have simply led things to get out of hand.
A giant box showed up today out of the blue, and I don’t even know where to put it – it’s going to have to go back. New tools showing up? It’s a pretty sweet part of the job, except when the box is the size and weight of a small refrigerator and I know I won’t be able to get to it for a couple of months.
Rules and Info
The Prize: A box of tools with most in new or like-new condition.
The tools will be provided as-is. Use at your own risk.
A vast majority of the giveaway items are hand tools. There might be some cordless power tools, but most of our excess/older/unneeded power tool samples go the local high school.
Winner Selection: Winners will be chose at random. I expect there to be at least 9 winners. The prize packages will not be of equal value.
How to Enter: Leave a comment here, starting with your chosen tool prize package category. Then, tell me about me about a brand of tool that you’ve never tried. Why not? Or, write a Haiku poem about any tool you have used recently. Or, tell me a quick joke.
Also, fill out the address/contact info form:
This is the same form as for this month’s mystery box giveaway, and so if you filled it out already, there’s no need to do it again unless your address has changed.
Rules: Entry period ends Tuesday, 11/12/2019 at 11:59pm ET. You must be 18 or older. By entering, you agree that the prizes are provided as-is, and that you use them at your own risk.
If your shipping info via the above form is incomplete, I will choose an alternate winner. The address and shipping information entered into the form will only be used for the purpose of this giveaway. Contiguous USA addresses only. One entry per person.
Prize Fulfillment: I hope to have the prizes shipped out by the end of this month.
The prizes will likely be sent via UPS or USPS.
Potential Changes: Although I don’t anticipate any problems, we’ve never run a giveaway like this before. If there’s a complication, I reserve the right to modify the entry terms.
