Stanley Black & Decker has recently launched their Stanley FatMax line of power tools in the UK. But instead of silver, black, and yellow, as in Canada and now in the USA, they’re yellow and black with hints of silver.
Note: At the time of this posting, these products are only being marketed outside of the USA.

Stanley’s FatMax power tool lineup, which includes cordless (10.8V and 18V) and corded tools, is engineered for the trade and rated by real pro’s.
Argos, the exclusive UK distributor for these products, describes all of the tools as being great for DIY projects, in the tools’ product pages. The tools have 3-year guarantees that exclude professional use.
You can find these tools via Argos, but they will also soon be available at Homebase, another UK-based DIY and home improvement store.

Is it just me, or do the new FatMax tools have a distinct Dewalt-like color scheme?

I’m having trouble wrapping my head around this. There are Stanley FatMax tools in Canada, one model in the USA, and a new yellow and black Dewalt-colored line in the UK. Stanley describes the tools as being for the trades, but their only distributor advertises them as being for DIYers and with a guarantee that does not apply if you use the tools professionally.

Cue cease and desist letters followed by trade dress infringement lawsuit.

Stanley Black & Decker owns both Stanley FatMax and Dewalt brands. It just seems a little peculiar to have both brands similarly colored. Maybe the colors look more different in person.
Ken
You are forgetting that Stanley colors are yellow and black too. Obviously the yellow on the Stanley tools are the Stanley yellow and not the Dewalt.
Ken
Sorry I re-read your article, and you noted the silver option in the USA and you are wondering why they didn’t do that in the UK too.

These look like Porter Cable tools only painted yellow. Very sad. I miss the old Porter Cable.

When is Dewalt going to release a multitool, yet a cordless one? I have the 20V Max kit, but they still dont even have a compatible jobsite radio after what, 2 years? Where’s the brushless drill? And just a handful of new intro’s since the beginning. Then, they come out with this stuff, new Porter Cable tools, etc. Maybe I should just go back to Milwaukee to get all the cool stuff. Hah.
Stuart
Good question. There are Stanley, Black & Decker, and Porter Cable multi-tools, but as far as we know a Dewalt version isn’t pending anytime soon.
My thoughts are that Dewalt won’t come out with an oscillating multi-tool until/unless they can deploy it with a complete line of blades and accessories.
As far as brushless drill/drivers come, nobody will comment about that. Thus far the story is that their brushed products can hold their own against competing brushless models, but I’d bet anything they’re working on brushless tech.
They launched the 20V line with the most popular tool types and have been working to expand the lineup as fast as they can. To be honest, it seems like they’re doing a nice job. Even so, I agree that there are quite a few holes in the lineup that should be filled sooner rather than later.

Some of the hand tools sold in the US under the Dewalt brand are sold in the UK as Stanley FatMax Xtreme.
For example:

or FatMax:

Maybe this is a branding trend?
Stuart
Not really, it just seems logical to offer the new tools under whichever brand has a stronger pro reputation for hand tools.

Why is it in the Philippines Stanley power tools color is in gray or silver compared to UK mostly yellow color? Is there a difference in the quality or just plainly Regional identification only?
Stuart
I think the yellow UK coloring is to make the tools look like Dewalt’s, but who knows what the reasoning behind the choice is.
I don’t think that the different colors means there’s a difference, in quality. It’s most likely just a regional identification or marketing distinction.
