We recently mentioned the Stanley Squidlite, a flexible tripod work light. Since then, we have received new information about the light, as well as a user’s firsthand experience with it.
The Stanley Squidlite is manufactured by Baccus Global. It has a runtime of “up to 6 hrs,” will operate while charging – meaning that it can be used corded or cordless, and has 20 LEDs that provide a constant output. As previously mentioned, the light can detach from the base, and has a strong magnetic backing.

The following is what GarageJournal forum member ATTappman had to say about the Stanley Squidbrite:
I bought one of those Squidbrite lights at Walmart, and it’s proved to be next to useless. Here are the problems with it:
- it’s not very bright
- the flexible legs will “wilt” after ten or fifteen minutes, forcing you to readjust them
- the battery life is terrible – I didn’t time it but it seems like about 45 minutes or so
- it takes a long time to recharge
- like most LED lights it gives no warning when the battery is nearly dead, it just goes out.
The only plus is that it has a magnet in the head, so you can detach it from the legs and stick it to a hood, for example.
Baccus Global’s claim of “up to 6hrs” of runtime is far greater than the experienced 45 minutes ATTappman experienced. We’re not quite sure what to think of this – perhaps ATTappman’s unit is defective? As for the LEDs going out unexpectedly when the battery is drained, that is a relatively common complaint about constant output lights.
Despite now knowing more about the SquidBrite, we are still somewhat neutral about it. We’re not running out to go get one, but we have not yet ruled out buying one either.

I love mine. The most I’ve used it continuously is about 90 minutes without any problems. I normally charge it after I use it, so I’ve not seen how long the battery charge last. The legs are very sturdy. I did not have the problem that ATTappman had with the legs wilting. I also don’t know how long it takes to charge. I just plug it up and forget about it. It is not as bright as a mag light, but it is enough to light up the area I’m working in. I’ve only had mine around a month, so things may change, but I’m very happy with the SquidBrite.
