Top 5 Kick-Ass Power Tool Designs of 2010

2010 was quite an eventful year choc-full of new power tools releases. Looking back through our new tool archives, first impressions raced back, reminding me of a few tools that made my eyes pop, jaw drop, and heart race with excitement and curiosity.

#1 – Senco Fusion Finish Nailer – Cordless, Hoseless, Fuel-less

Senco Fusion Cordless Nailer

As mentioned in our first impressions teaser, the Senco Fusion series nailer is incredibly impressive. I was intrigued and excited about the design from the get-go, but hands-on time with the nailer confirmed that Senco’s design is truly revolutionary.

This nailer is nothing short of amazing, and Senco’s design engineers should definitely be applauded for their innovativeness.

#2 – Ridgid JobMax, a Modular Cordless Tool System

Ridgid’s JobMax tool system is a real head-turner and for good reason. The cordless 12V Max power tool system features a Power Base Handle and interchangeable tool heads. Separating the motor and battery from the gearboxes and tool chucks/interfaces allows for a more affordable package deal. Check out our review of the JobMax system.

#3 – Milwaukee M12 Hammer Drill, Palm Nailer & Heated Jacket – the First of Their Kind

Milwaukee M12 Cordless Hammer Drill

It is no real surprise that Milwaukee continues to expand their already versatile M12 cordless compact tool lineup with innovative offerings. Some of their new tools, such as the M12 oscillating multi-tool, were anticipated, but Milwaukee’s M12 hammer drill, palm nailer and heated jacket are jaw-droppingly cool.

#4 – Porter Cable QuikJig Pocket Hole Jig

Porter Cable’s QuikJig offers an incredible array of features in what looks to be a robust package. The QuikJig was designed with repeatability and ease of use in mind. Its price is a bit higher than Kreg’s master system but only a little higher than a biscuit joiner, making it a great option for advanced and professional woodworkers.

#5 – Bosch Axial-Glide Sliding Miter Saw

Bosch GCM12SD Axial-Glide Dual Bevel Miter Saw

Bosch’s Axial-Glide miter saw features a large cutting capacity in a small footprint thanks to its unique pivoting arm system. Upon seeing the saw for the first time, quite a few woodworkers and contractors have been caught stopped in their tracks and staring.

Honorable Mention – Dewalt 12V Max Lineup

Dewalt 12V MAX Lithium Ion Cordless Screwdriver DCF610S2

If you’ve stuck around here for a while, you probably already know that we absolutely love Dewalt’s new 12V Max compact cordless tools. These tools are feature-rich and are a pleasure to use. I cannot recommend this platform enough.

Are there any other tools that you would have added to this list?
